Quintessential Maine Oceanfront Home

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Forget the commercialism and congestion of the Cape, Martha's Vineyard or even Southern Maine. This beautiful and unique property is located right in the center of the Maine Coast, situated perfectly between Portland (approximately an hour to the South) and Bar Harbor (Acadia National Park) to the north.

The property sits atop 2.5 expansive and private acres of land on a hill sloping down to the Atlantic Ocean, and consists of a lovely classic Maine cape home (built in 1998), a detached 'Boat House' for additional sleeping and recreation, and a 40 foot commercial grade pier and dock.

The main house has a crisp, bright, open post and beam layout, with a modern island kitchen, 3 upstairs bedrooms (sleeping 6) and a spacious wrap-around deck overlooking the water. There are 1.5 baths in the main house and 1 bath in the Boat House.

The Boat House is an extraordinary structure, originally designed to build and store large vessels, in which a large, spacious section has been newly renovated. The Boat House has vaulted high ceilings, granite stone tile flooring, and sleeps 4 comfortably. The Boat House is ideal for the kids or extended family. It includes a pool table, air hockey, fooseball, and a 42' flat screen HDTV.

The property comes equipped with three boats (a single kayak, a three person canoe-kayak hybrid and a two person ocean kayak), along with life jackets and paddles ready for your families' enjoyment. The kayaking routes immediately off the dock are literally some of the best in the world, and you can explore dozens of pristine islands right from off of the dock. You can also eat fresh lobster caught and cooked daily at a neighborhood lobster cooperative about a two hundred yard walk down the hill from the house. Or, just ask Shamus (the neighborhood lobstering wonder-boy) to deliver some fresh off of his boat to the door. After dinner, enjoy the firepit in the yard for roasting marshmellows and sitting around the fire.

Damariscotta, with its famous harbor, restaurants and a Hannaford's shopping center, is only 10-15 minutes from the house. Pemaquid Point Beach, one of Maine's most gorgeous sandy beaches and home to the most photographed lighthouse in the world, Pemaquid Point Light, is about 20-25 minutes from the house. The ferry to spectacular Monhegan Island leaves daily from New Harbor, about 20 minutes from the house, and the popular towns of Camden and Boothbay Harbor are each about 20-30 miles away.

Everything you need for your stay is provided, including a fully equipped kitchen, linens, wireless internet, outdoor furniture and grill, DVD player, Direct TV, a BOSE iPhone/iPod docking stereo station, and two smart 42-inch LCD HD TVs with Netflix built in for watching movies.

Location was awesome! We went in the winter so there was snow everywhere but it was still beautiful. I can only imagine how fun it would be during the summer. Great stay. Thanks Dan. Oh and we had some fresh live Maine lobster. Holy moly, best meal I've ever had!!!!!

This was the perfect house for our perfect day! We came from Bremen in Germany to celebrate in Bremen, Maine together with the American part of our family. We all kayaked, ate tons of lobster, had smores around the campfire--we definitely hope to come back to this slice of heaven!

Awesome get away!

  • 5 of 5

My family picked this place for a reunion, it has everything we needed for an adventure away. We kayaked in the bay, hung out in the cabin, the location was perfect for hiking or to get to Portland. Wouldn't change a thing! The owner was super helpful with scheduling, great with communication.

Beautiful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The Plosser family had several "firsts" this trip; canoeing, kayaking for some, playing pool & ping pong for some (crazy I know but some people don't get out much!:). We visited New Harbor, Wiscassett, Boothbay Harbor, Morses sauerkraut, Montsweag flea market, North of the Border, Round Pond, and many other places. What a beautiful retreat for our clan.

Celebrated a 30 year Anniversary, an 8 year Anniversary and a 60th Birthday! Had incredible weather and took full advantage. Acadia, Bar Harbor, and all kinds of light houses in the area. This house is amazing with everything you need for a wonderful stay! Hanging out on the dock and kayaking, making fires every nights and the boat house for the kids worked out perfect. We will be back!

Great Memories

  • 5 of 5

We came to Maine for a celebration of our parents' (and grandparents') 50th wedding anniversary. 12 of us drove all the way from Michigan. There was plenty of room for all of us to be together but also have our own space. We enjoyed cooking lobsters from down the road. We loved the peace and quiet here. We made several day trips to whale watch, shop, visit Acadia National Park and enjoyed Pemaquid Beach. Made lots of great memories with 3 generations!
