Peaceful, clean and comfortable classic rustic A-Frame in Blue Lake Springs with comfortable furniture. Designed for a romantic couple get-away, small family, or Blue Lake Spring overflow. Enjoy all the summer amenities, including Snowflake Lodge Restaurant, pool, snack bar, tennis courts, playground, ping pong and shuffleboard, the Lodge Lake and Fly-In Lake, and more. (There is Guest Fees for use of Blue Lake Springs Summer Recreation.) Also, there are many area activities including Calaveras Big Trees State Park, hiking, biking, fishing, the caves, Lake Alpine and shopping and dining in Murphy's which is close by. In the winter enjoy Bear Valley Ski Resort just up the highway.

Loved our stay

It's becoming a bit of tradition to spend sometime up in the mountains mid fall, we really enjoyed staying the bear hideaway, once again Carol was communicative and the cabin was clean and tidy.

Cozy clean cabin

We loved our stay! The cabin was very clean and fully stocked with utilities, board games, cleaning supplies and towels/blankets. We really enjoyed how the property was tucked away from the main road which made it quiet and a more enjoyable stay (quiet nights and mornings). We highly recommend staying here!

Love our stay

We had a great time staying at the cabin. The house is clean with all the kitchen supplies. The owner is very responsive even on the Christmas Day. We had a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend to family and friends for this place.

Great place to stay in Arnold!

My family enjoyed staying at this place. It had a cozy cabin feel. My two girls 4 and 6 enjoyed the books, markers and games. Kitchen is cozy but well stocked. The location is outside the "downtown" area of Arnold, close to Calaveras Big trees, which makes it a convenient drive to Bear Valley.

Great holiday stay

Brown Bear Hideaway was a fantastic choice for our family of four on our winter-time visit to Arnold to do some skiing at Bear Valley. Carol's property was clean, well equipped, perfectly located to restaurants, grocery store, Big Trees State Park, Bear Valley and just a pleasure to stay in. Carol was always quick with a friendly/helpful reply and we felt well looked after during our stay. We hope to return again!

Great Cabin in Blue Lake Springs

Great little cabin in Blue Lake Springs. Beautiful deck to enjoy the outdoors. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. Carole was quick to respond to all of our questions. We hope to stay there again.

Adorable cabin in the woods

We absolutely loved this cabin! It was the perfect getaway in the mountains, very peaceful and relaxing. I honestly didn’t want to leave! We would love to stay again in the future. Highly recommended! Thank you Carol!

Wonderful stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the Brown Bear Hideaway! The location was great - close to Arnold and Big Trees, and it was nice to walk through the community. We didn't use the various amenities available through the community, but it was nice to know it's there. The cabin was roomy for the two of us, and we loved sitting out on the deck. Kitchen was well outfitted, and the bed was very comfortable.

Great Hiking Retreat

We had a great stay. The cabin was just as described, cozy & functional. We were delighted to find a Sonos system that allowed us to listen to our favorite stationds. Check-in & out were seamless, and Carol is terrific, very responsive. Great location for hiking the Arnold Rim Trail, Bear Valley, Lake Alpine, and hikes in the Carson Iceberg Wilderness. We'll be back.

Comfy Stay

We loved the cabin! It was perfect for a family of 4. We loved cooking dinner and eating outside under the trees. The beds are all new and there are great touches for your stay: spices, olive oil, washing machine and dryer. The washing machine and dryer came in great and handy with two little children. The cabin stayed nice and cool during the day despite 90+ temperatures outside.

Highly recommend

We were in Arnold, CA to visit family and was thrilled to find we could rent a home through VRBO rather than staying in a hotel. "Bear Hideaway" was a beautiful home in a peaceful environment, with a lovely host. Carol is so organized in how she manages her property, the information we needed was clearly stated and she was very responsive when I had questions. I would highly recommend this property.

Great Stay

Beautiful updated little cabin. Comfy, cozy and clean. Easy to arrange. Exactly the escape my little family needed. Enjoyed The big trees in the snow and a gorgeous snow mobile day at Bear. Look forward to coming in the summer to enjoy the lakes. Would love a bigger coffee pot! Thank you for sharing your cabin with us.

Perfect NYE Getaway

This cabin was the perfect place for our family of 4 to stay during the New Year’s week to celebrate that and my daughter’s 5th birthday & kids’ first trip to snow! The place was cozy, perfectly set up with all the essentials, and a wonderful surprise was HOW MANY board games, kids toys and coloring supplies there were! We all really enjoyed having those extra activities to do in the downtime. Carol was super responsive when we had questions, and we had no problems with the place. The area was quiet and we lucked out with beautiful fresh fallen snow about 10 minutes uo from the cabin, so we had 2 full days of snow play. Would definitely visit again’

Lovely Cabin

This is such a lovely cabin. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Everything was super clean, the beds were really comfortable, and all the little details and personal touches Carol put into the cabin made our stay exceptional. Communication with Carol before our stay was also great. She was very helpful and flexible especially when we had to reschedule due to the stay-at-home order. We would definitely return for another stay at this cabin. Thanks for everything, Carol!

Nicely decorated, cute, clean and comfortably furnished

For us, "A-Frames" make for a cozier/classic mountain cabin experience, and Brown Bear Hideaway gave us what we were looking for. It had a very nice layout and was appointed/decorated with great thought and care, perfect for a couple or small family getaway. We especially loved the large living area with its high ceiling, super comfortable couch, clean carpet, remote-controlled gas fireplace, view of the trees, and direct access to the large deck. The mattress, sheets and bedding were also very nice and comfortable as well. Great place to hang out and relax after making easy drives to Bear Valley, Big Trees, and Murphy's etc.

Perfect A-frame cabin for a BLS vacation for small family

Used this cabin for summer vacation. Great cabin for family of 4 with kids. Everything was great. Our small kids shared a queen bed. Has AC upstairs which feels so necessary in summer. Always saying “oh good they have [something]“. Great care has been taken to provide good quality household goods. Soft plush towels ! No dishwasher and 1 bathroom, fyi. Loved it.

AMAZING STAY AND PROPERTY!!!

This cabin is located in a great location. Neighbors are extremely quite and its very peaceful outside and just a short drive to a grocery store, gas station, and the big trees state park. The decor inside is very nice. The owner, is very friendly and made sure we had all the information for our stay prior to our stay. Just about everything you could ever need for your stay is in the cabin. Spices, cleaning supplies, sanitizing wipes, toiletries, BBQ with propane, outside seating, games, DVD movies, kids toys, etc. I was blown away at how much was readily available. My wife, my 1 year old daughter and myself, absolutely enjoyed everything about staying here for 2 nights and look forward to a future stay here. 5 stars!

Birthday Get Away

The place was very nice and clean. We were there for 3 days. Our only issue with this place is that there to many stairs to climb when you are trying to load and unload your belongings. Also the shower felt very slippery when showering. In the future we could not bring our son because this place is not handicap accessible. We made sure we left the place like we found it. As we were told in the rules that the cleaning person would be taking a video to send back to the owner. So I took pictures too.

Quiet and Peaceful

The cabin was just as advertised and in a great location near highway 4, but far enough away from the highway for it to be quiet and tranquil. The deck is great for enjoying coffee in the morning and listening to the sounds of nature.

Home away from home

You feel at home the moment you walk in. You have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The cabin is beautiful and in a peaceful community! Enjoyed our stay immensely!!!

I grew up visiting the Sierra to fish and hike and have been awed by it ever since. I introduced the Sierra to my three children by way of fishing, camping, hiking and skiing.
In 2005 I purchased Brown Bear Lodge in Twain Harte and it became a very successful vacation rental.
I retired in 2014 and thought that I wanted a quieter life in a retirement community so selling Brown Bear Lodge was part of that plan - WRONG. I terribly missed the mountains so in 2016 I purchased Brown Bear Hideaway and went to work turning it into a wonderful, comfy home. A year later I decided to move to Arnold and I turned Brown Bear Hideaway into this vacation rental.

I like restoring classic things like furniture, antiques, and homes! I could see the potential in this classic A-frame home the minute I stepped inside. After many hours cleaning, painting and designing, it became a very comfortable, relaxing, cozy home.
