This is NOT your average listing. It is actively managed by us, the owners. We live about 15 mins away and are able to ensure that it continues to be kept clean and fresh and is a welcoming place for folks looking to relax and unwind from the normal day to day stresses. As an artist and a general contractor we have been able to put our own unique mark on the home.
We have been overwhelmed by the response in the last several years at how well the home has been received and are gratified by the large number of repeat guests we have. Take a look at our reviews. We really enjoy keeping it well maintained and providing a place where folks can come and re-connect with family and the parts of their lives that are so easily ignored in the bustle of day to day life.

My parents built this home 50 years ago. We have a boatload of memories here and we invite you now to visit and make your own special memories. It is a lovely, secluded, romantic, cozy waterfront cottage which was extensively and artfully remodeled in early 2007. The bathrooms and kitchen were brought up to current standards. Every year we manage to find new things to update and improve. In 2012 we reworked the storage space under the porch to make it much more attractive and we added an outdoor hot & cold water shower. It is really nice place to clean up and rinse off the lake water. We also added the outdoor fire-pit. In 2013 we pulled up the worn carpet on the porch and my wife painted a pond scene on the floor. Now you can dip your toes in the "pond" while you rock on the porch. We replaced all of the kitchen appliances in 2015. Every room has a water view. The location is convenient to I-77 exits 33 and 36.
The master bedroom has a cathedral ceiling with a treetop view through the skylights over the queen-size bed. Three windows provide an expansive view of the lake. The connecting master bath has a spacious shower, also with a lake view. The screen porch is perfectly suited to catch summer breezes coming off of the lake. It is a perfect place for a morning cup of coffee or an evening drink while watching the sunset.
The interior has been lovingly decorated with original artwork. New hardwood flooring in the common areas. New carpet in the bedrooms. There are two TVs with cable and two DVD players. The kitchen is well equipped.
You will have exclusive use of your own (splinter free) private dock with floating boat slip. The slip has very deep water. The dock is easily seen from the screen porch. You can watch the kids fishing while you are grilling dinner. The dock has both a ladder and steps into the water. Perhaps your biggest challenge may be getting the kids out of the water long enough to eat.
Please check our calendar for availability. We work hard to keep it up to date.
While the home is close to many good restaurants and other attractions, you will feel that you have entered your own private retreat. The shape of the lot means that adjacent houses are more behind rather than next to our house. Privacy and seclusion are the operative words to describe the feel of the house.

We've been married more than 35 years. We were high school sweethearts in Charlotte. We spent almost 20 years in and around NYC and now are thrilled to be back in North Carolina. We really enjoy sharing this house where we have so many memories with folks from all over.
Owner purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Owner chose Lake Norman of Catawba
This house has been in Larry's family for nearly 50 years. It was built in 1967. We both have just tons of memories that are set in this home. We have had a ball updating the home and sharing it with friends and family and guests.
What makes this Cottage unique
The house has a very secluded feel to it. With over 460' of waterfront and an abundance of trees it is easy to forget that there are other homes around. Yet, it is just moments from Mooresville and the interstate. The screen porch is our absolute favorite feature to the house and sitting on the dock in the early morning with a cup of coffee is THE best way to start the day.

WOW! What a great place to unwind and relax. Nestled on a small cove off Lake Norman. Plenty of privacy and seclusion from everyday hassles. Home was fully stocked as listed. We would definitely return. The Martins
Great lake home. Nice views.
The property offers a lot to enjoy. The screened porch is fabulous. The house is a bit dated in areas, but very functional. We would definitely book this again. It is easy to get to and offers the convince of nearby shopping.
Shelter Cover is absolutely wonderful.
The home was lovely and the time there was relaxing. All we needed was right there waiting for us. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!!
So glad you enjoyed your stay!
Wow! An amazing place for a family getaway!
What a perfect place for a family getaway! Our kids loved the swing set, swimming in the lake and fishing off the dock. We caught one fish! We also loved kayaking on the lake. The fire pit and cooking s'mores on the fire was awesome! The place was immaculate and beautiful. It was comfortable and had everything we could possibly need. You can tell is is well cared for. The welcome sign was one of our favorite touches! The only bad part was that we had to leave! We can't wait to come back for a longer stay at this amazing place!
Thanks so much for the kind words. It is truly a joy to see families bonding together at a place that has meant so much to our family for so many years.
Great place to destress from the grind of everyday life and enjoy mother nature.
We have spent a couple of weeks at the lake every summer for the past 11 years, 9 of them at "Sheltered Cove". It is a great place for a small group of friends or family to spend time and enjoy all the activities that Mooresville and Lake Norman have to offer.
The large screened in porch is the best!
Thanks Roy. We always enjoy having ya'll stay.
Love, Love, Love Sheltered Cove!
This was the second year our family stayed at Sheltered Cove, and again we had an amazing time. The house is private, the lakefront location is perfect, and the screened in porch is by far our favorite place to hang out. We rented a pontoon boat for the week, and used the kayaks daily. The house is equipped with everything you need, and the location is so close to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. We love Sheltered Cove! Thanks to the Harkness's for being awesome hosts and paying attention to details!
We are so glad you enjoyed it. We take a lot of pride in paying attention to the details. It is always rewarding when folks notice. Thank you.
