This is NOT your average listing. It is actively managed by us, the owners. We live about 15 mins away and are able to ensure that it continues to be kept clean and fresh and is a welcoming place for folks looking to relax and unwind from the normal day to day stresses. As an artist and a general contractor we have been able to put our own unique mark on the home.

We have been overwhelmed by the response in the last several years at how well the home has been received and are gratified by the large number of repeat guests we have. Take a look at our reviews. We really enjoy keeping it well maintained and providing a place where folks can come and re-connect with family and the parts of their lives that are so easily ignored in the bustle of day to day life.

Be sure and check out the video tab on the top of the picture to the left of this text.

My parents built this home 50 years ago. We have a boatload of memories here and we invite you now to visit and make your own special memories. It is a lovely, secluded, romantic, cozy waterfront cottage which was extensively and artfully remodeled in early 2007. The bathrooms and kitchen were brought up to current standards. Every year we manage to find new things to update and improve. In 2012 we reworked the storage space under the porch to make it much more attractive and we added an outdoor hot & cold water shower. It is really nice place to clean up and rinse off the lake water. We also added the outdoor fire-pit. In 2013 we pulled up the worn carpet on the porch and my wife painted a pond scene on the floor. Now you can dip your toes in the "pond" while you rock on the porch. We replaced all of the kitchen appliances in 2015. Every room has a water view. The location is convenient to I-77 exits 33 and 36.

The master bedroom has a cathedral ceiling with a treetop view through the skylights over the queen-size bed. Three windows provide an expansive view of the lake. The connecting master bath has a spacious shower, also with a lake view. The screen porch is perfectly suited to catch summer breezes coming off of the lake. It is a perfect place for a morning cup of coffee or an evening drink while watching the sunset.

The interior has been lovingly decorated with original artwork. New hardwood flooring in the common areas. New carpet in the bedrooms. There are two TVs with cable and two DVD players. The kitchen is well equipped.

You will have exclusive use of your own (splinter free) private dock with floating boat slip. The slip has very deep water. The dock is easily seen from the screen porch. You can watch the kids fishing while you are grilling dinner. The dock has both a ladder and steps into the water. Perhaps your biggest challenge may be getting the kids out of the water long enough to eat.

Please check our calendar for availability. We work hard to keep it up to date.

While the home is close to many good restaurants and other attractions, you will feel that you have entered your own private retreat. The shape of the lot means that adjacent houses are more behind rather than next to our house. Privacy and seclusion are the operative words to describe the feel of the house.

About The Owner

We've been married more than 35 years. We were high school sweethearts in Charlotte. We spent almost 20 years in and around NYC and now are thrilled to be back in North Carolina. We really enjoy sharing this house where we have so many memories with folks from all over.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2003

Why The Owner chose Lake Norman

This house has been in Larry's family for nearly 50 years. It was built in 1967. We both have just tons of memories that are set in this home. We have had a ball updating the home and sharing it with friends and family and guests.

What makes this cottage unique

The house has a very secluded feel to it. With over 460' of waterfront and an abundance of trees it is easy to forget that there are other homes around. Yet, it is just moments from Mooresville and the interstate. The screen porch is our absolute favorite feature to the house and sitting on the dock in the early morning with a cup of coffee is THE best way to start the day.

What a lovely little gem on beautiful Lake Norman!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our chocolate Labrador loved this waterfront house. It's the perfect size for a small family, with everything on one floor, but does not feel small at all. And while the house is lovely, clean and charmingly decorated, the best parts were outside! The screened-in porch was my favorite with lots of great furniture and an awesome view of the lake. And then, there's the dock! We spent hours out on the dock fishing, reading and watching our dog chase tennis balls in the water. Every attraction that is Nascar or racing inspired is easy to get to and close by. Grocery store is 5 minutes away as well as several great little takeout places. The Nascar HOF is in Charlotte, which was less than an hour away and was a lot of fun. The people of North Carolina are super friendly no matter where we went. We're from the northeast, where politeness and cheerfulness by members of the service industry isn't always guaranteed. It seems second nature in North Carolina. My hubby and I are considering retiring here - on Lake Norman! Mooresville is a wonderful area. Thank you to the owners for sharing this lovely piece of paradise with all of us!

Owner's Response: When we were rebuilding the dock a few years ago, one of my employees said to me "You always have a big grin on your face when you are here." It's true, even when we are working hard at the house I am smiling. The place has had that effect on me for over 45 years. It is tremendously gratifying to be able to share it with folks that appreciate how unique and special it is. Thanks for the great review.

Private relaxing lakefront cottage with a great views

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 day stay at Sheltered Cove. The cottage is very clean, nicely decorated and updated in all the right areas like the master bathroom and new kitchen appliances. The kitchen is well stocked and opens into the casual dining and living room areas so we could cook, talk and also look out onto the lake. The covered porch was a great place to relax after being on the lake all day and our dogs had a great time swimming off the awesome dock. This was our first visit to the area and definitely not our last. We plan on making Sheltered Cove our regular vacation destination.

Owner's Response: If I could only enjoy the lake at one time of the year, mid-October would be my choice. It sounds like you discovered how great t is. We look forward to having you visit again soon. Don't wait too long to book your reservation. As of mid-October 2016 we already have about half of the summer of 2017 booked.

We stayed at sheltered cove during 2 days of rain. we were still able to enjoy the screened porch and enjoyed walking down to the dock during the occasional break in the bad weather. The house is well stocked with supplies and games! The owner quickly replied to any questions we had.

We loved having our meals on the screened porch overlooking the lake. Each morning during breakfast we saw deer on the lawn. The house is very clean and well stocked with kitchen utensils. We enjoyed our visit and will certainly return to Sheltered Cove.

We really enjoyed our week at the cabin, we felt welcome when we arrived as we had a welcome sign with our name on it..nice touch..the screen room was our favorite place to be at night, we liked listing to the Owls in the woods and the creatures of the night...we felt like we were in a tree house as the screen porch setting felt like you were in the trees watching the birds ..The house was very nice and quite..a great place to relax and enjoy our selves..the boat dock was covered it made it nice to be out working on the boat out of the sun, getting ready for the day. My wife and I are looking forward to staying there again..Thank You for a Great Week!

Relaxing and fun

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a place where we didn't have any worries and could relax. We decided on Sheltered Cove so our daughter and son in law would be able to visit. They were able to drive from Charlotte a couple of days. The house was wonderful it has everything you could possibly need. We spent most of our time when not on the boat resting on the screened in porch overlooking the lake. I was happy the house had a washer and dryer so didn't have laundry to do when I got home. We will spend more vacations here. Our daughter loved it too and are planning to stay at Sheltered Cove in the future with some friends.
