This is NOT your average listing. It is actively managed by us, the owners. We live about 15 mins away and are able to ensure that it continues to be kept clean and fresh and is a welcoming place for folks looking to relax and unwind from the normal day to day stresses. As an artist and a general contractor we have been able to put our own unique mark on the home.

We have been overwhelmed by the response in the last several years at how well the home has been received and are gratified by the large number of repeat guests we have. Take a look at our reviews. We really enjoy keeping it well maintained and providing a place where folks can come and re-connect with family and the parts of their lives that are so easily ignored in the bustle of day to day life.

Be sure and check out the video tab on the top of the picture to the left of this text.

My parents built this home 50 years ago. We have a boatload of memories here and we invite you now to visit and make your own special memories. It is a lovely, secluded, romantic, cozy waterfront cottage which was extensively and artfully remodeled in early 2007. The bathrooms and kitchen were brought up to current standards. Every year we manage to find new things to update and improve. In 2012 we reworked the storage space under the porch to make it much more attractive and we added an outdoor hot & cold water shower. It is really nice place to clean up and rinse off the lake water. We also added the outdoor fire-pit. In 2013 we pulled up the worn carpet on the porch and my wife painted a pond scene on the floor. Now you can dip your toes in the "pond" while you rock on the porch. We replaced all of the kitchen appliances in 2015. Every room has a water view. The location is convenient to I-77 exits 33 and 36.

The master bedroom has a cathedral ceiling with a treetop view through the skylights over the queen-size bed. Three windows provide an expansive view of the lake. The connecting master bath has a spacious shower, also with a lake view. The screen porch is perfectly suited to catch summer breezes coming off of the lake. It is a perfect place for a morning cup of coffee or an evening drink while watching the sunset.

The interior has been lovingly decorated with original artwork. New hardwood flooring in the common areas. New carpet in the bedrooms. There are two TVs with cable and two DVD players. The kitchen is well equipped.

You will have exclusive use of your own (splinter free) private dock with floating boat slip. The slip has very deep water. The dock is easily seen from the screen porch. You can watch the kids fishing while you are grilling dinner. The dock has both a ladder and steps into the water. Perhaps your biggest challenge may be getting the kids out of the water long enough to eat.

Please check our calendar for availability. We work hard to keep it up to date.

While the home is close to many good restaurants and other attractions, you will feel that you have entered your own private retreat. The shape of the lot means that adjacent houses are more behind rather than next to our house. Privacy and seclusion are the operative words to describe the feel of the house.

About The Owner

We've been married more than 35 years. We were high school sweethearts in Charlotte. We spent almost 20 years in and around NYC and now are thrilled to be back in North Carolina. We really enjoy sharing this house where we have so many memories with folks from all over.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2003

Why The Owner chose Lake Norman

This house has been in Larry's family for nearly 50 years. It was built in 1967. We both have just tons of memories that are set in this home. We have had a ball updating the home and sharing it with friends and family and guests.

What makes this cottage unique

The house has a very secluded feel to it. With over 460' of waterfront and an abundance of trees it is easy to forget that there are other homes around. Yet, it is just moments from Mooresville and the interstate. The screen porch is our absolute favorite feature to the house and sitting on the dock in the early morning with a cup of coffee is THE best way to start the day.

Beautiful, Peaceful, Family Friendly

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Sheltered Cove. I stayed with my two kids (3 and 5). It is a very peaceful, yet fun place. The hosts have created a thoughtful and beautiful experience for guests.

We have stayed at many vacation rentals that look great in the photos, but when you get there, aren't what they seemed. It was so refreshing to find a place that not only matched the photos and description, but was outfitted like a nice home. There is no cheap polyester linens, old broken down furniture, useless kitchen ware, etc.

We enjoyed everything about our stay at Sheltered Cove. It is well maintained with thoughtful attention to details.

Owner's Response: We make a point of staying in the home ourselves occasionally and that lets us experience it as our guests do. Living 15 minutes away also helps us keep close tabs on everything. We often clean it ourselves between guests and when we don't we make a point of at least putting eyes on it. We have stayed at those less desirable places you describe and we take great pride in exceeding expectations. Thanks for the review. We hope you can return soon.

Exactly as advertised, a secluded, serene spot on a quiet cove but minutes away from everything.

  • 5 of 5

My cousin (Montgomery, AL) and I (Richmond, VA) met here this week for four full days of "guy time" and some fishing. The weather cooperated so we had many enjoyable hours on the water and caught quite a few fish, mostly LM bass although there were the odd small but optimistic panfish. FYI - if you plan to fish, the fish seem to mostly like to hide under the copious number of docks.

The two bedrooms and two full baths were a perfect size for us. My cousin snores (at least he says his wife told him he does) so separate bedrooms was a must for us. Overall the rental is extremely well equipped and very comfortable and the screen porch was wonderful place for relaxing after a hard day of fishing. The cove is very quiet with minimal boat traffic in a "no wake" zone.

There is a free boat ramp nearby and the covered dock was a blessing as it rained most of the morning the day after we arrived. The owner has installed electric outlets at the dock making recharging batteries or using electronics very easy. The parking is ample, the yard is large AND the walk between the house and the dock is MUCH easier than many other lake house places I have stayed!

As we are both in our 70's, my cousin and I are beyond our kayaking and canoeing days but these are just some of the many lake oriented amenities younger visiting families will appreciate. The flat screen TV offered lots of channel choices (plus a DVD player with movies) and the 5G internet connection @ 400+ MB/S kept the personal electronics well fed when doing searches for places to eat or checking email. Although we didn't need it I liked the fact the owners are nearby "in case of emergency" which is not always the case.

I would highly recommend this rental and expect my cousin and I will likely plan a return visit at some point.

Owner's Response: Hey Harry, I'm so glad the fish cooperated. I'd sent them a memo that you were coming but they don't always listen. We have lots of guests that mention how nice the dock is. Next to the screen porch I think it is most folks favorite spot. My dad was a steel salesman so when he found out that he could buy a steel dock he was all over it. It's nice because it is rigid and stable. The splinter free surface makes it nice for barefeet and now that there is electric there is no need to lug batteries up the hill to charge them. I hope you get a chance to return again sometime soon.

Lovely area!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our 2 week stay at Sheltered Cove. If only it was warmer it would be perfect. We loved the location of the cabin. Also, the layout and having everything you really need was a plus. Thank you for allowing to bring our doggies. They enjoyed the many trails we went on. Lovely porch, as well. We hope to return some day.

Owner's Response: What topsy turvy weather we have had of late. My experience though is that any day at the lake is a great day. We'd love to have you back anytime.

Private relaxing lakefront cottage with a great views

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 day stay at Sheltered Cove. The cottage is very clean, nicely decorated and updated in all the right areas like the master bathroom and new kitchen appliances. The kitchen is well stocked and opens into the casual dining and living room areas so we could cook, talk and also look out onto the lake. The covered porch was a great place to relax after being on the lake all day and our dogs had a great time swimming off the awesome dock. This was our first visit to the area and definitely not our last. We plan on making Sheltered Cove our regular vacation destination.

Owner's Response: If I could only enjoy the lake at one time of the year, mid-October would be my choice. It sounds like you discovered how great t is. We look forward to having you visit again soon. Don't wait too long to book your reservation. As of mid-October 2016 we already have about half of the summer of 2017 booked.
