About Brenda Golden

The Golden Family live in Roswell, Ga and enjoy their retreats to Rockport. They pastor St. Peter's Place Anglican Church and own Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee company which works with farmers in Rwanda while providing coffee drinkers in the U.S with an excellent cup.

Brenda Golden purchased this house in 2006

Why Brenda Golden chose Rockport

The Golden family fell in love with Rockport while Jonathan was attending Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. As Jonathan walked the paths of Cape Ann he was reminded of his families roots in Cornwall, England. The property is a historic home that they restored in 2006. It has beautiful views and easy access for brisk swims, kayaking and paddle boarding right from the back yard.

What makes this house unique

Bicycling, kayaking, paddle boarding, close enough to town but far enough for quietness. It is truly a family place.

Terrific

  • 5 of 5

We are two families --one local and one from California -- who met for a few days at this beautiful spot. We loved rock hopping down at the water (we brought an inflatable boat so we could easily access the water down at the rocky shore) and hanging out on the deck (we spotted a whale from the deck one evening). We were all sad to leave and hope to return.

This house couldn’t have been better!

  • 5 of 5

What a great house in a great setting. It was perfect for a group of 7. The kitchen, the deck, the bathrooms and bedrooms - everything was terrific. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Weather and house, perfect

  • 5 of 5

Were very pleased with Golden Cottage - house and location - for a great weekend getaway and family get together in New England. House and grounds were very clean upon arrival, and we did our best to leave it that way upon departure.

Golden Cottage is in a quiet location with a great view. Neighbors are friendly. And quiet. You can indeed see all the way to Maine! Very good restaurants are within easy driving distance in both Rockport and Gloucester (Seaport Grille is our recommendation). Dunkin Donuts is a pleasant walk or easy drive for the morning person. Rockport is also good for easy running. The more serious runner will love the villages and ups'n'downs of Rt 127 around Cape Ann.

All for less than the price of room at the ritzy Wentworth near Portsmouth, NH.

Will be looking for a return stay.

Wonderful property, beautiful spot, fun stay!

  • 4 of 5

We rented Golden Cottage by the Sea for a week at the end of April / beginning of May, for a sisters’ reunion. There were six of us, and the house accommodated us very well. It’s a beautiful spot overlooking a small cove with a rocky beach. The house is lovely - it’s great for small family reunions or just a nice, quiet get-away. The neighborhood is somewhat close with houses all around, but in early spring, everything was quiet and peaceful.

For us, the best part of the house was the deck outside overlooking the cove. It’s a great place to sit for morning coffee and evening drinks, and pretty much any time in between, especially if you’re up for a lot of sun.

Because our get-away was before Memorial Day, there were three small difficulties that others who are booking before the summer season might want to keep in mind:

1. No deck furniture was in place. Luckily, those of us who were driving brought a few camp chairs, which gave us adequate seating. We were able to retrieve one chair from under the deck where it was in storage and a couple foot rests and wiped them down, so that we had a chair for everyone. But the table and chairs featured in the photos were not available.

2. There were no screens on the windows. This was problematic, as we had some very hot days. We finally had to concede to the possibility of bugs and open the windows anyway.

3. There was a problem with the heating system. Although we turned the heat off completely, including the control in the living room, the radiators in the living room continued to radiate, making it very warm in that part of the house, especially in the evenings. This may have to do with the type of heating system (baseboard radiators), as the heat radiated when anyone took a hot shower. Perhaps the valves weren’t working correctly. We didn’t notice this problem until the last couple days when temperatures soared, so we didn’t call maintenance, but there’s a number for maintenance posted in the kitchen in case problems like this arise.

Overall, it was a fantastic week. The house makes a great get-away, we spent many happy hours there, and we would book again in a heartbeat.

Spring Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our family weekend getaway in Rockport. The property was clean, well equipped and comfortable and we sat looking out at the water for most of the weekend. A hard to reach chirping smoke detector was promptly sorted and we had no other troubles. I always appreciate it when properties have a little oil, salt and pepper, some tea, and I contributed to the stash. The town of Rockport is about a 2 mile walk and very pleasant on a nice day.

Seven minute drive to the sandy beaches of Rockport. Rated in the top 3 Beaches in New England. A renowned scuba diver’s spot, Back Beach is located between Main and Granite streets. It also offers great views. If you are looking more for peace and quiet, Cape Hedge Beach on South street is quietly tucked away – a perfect place for solitude. Front Beach is a busy beach on Sandy Bay – walking distance to downtown Rockport and its restaurants and shops. Long Beach, off Thatcher Road, is another long, protected stretch of ocean and sand, backed by a cement retaining wall and lined with summer cottages. From Long Beach you can easily view the twin lighthouses on Thatcher's Island. Great fishing, whale watching tours are available. Kayak rental and tours. Stroll along the streets of downtown, and the famous stretch on Bearskin neck, through a variety of specialty stores.
