What makes this Apartment unique
St Ives bay is renowned for its surfing and windsurfing and is well patrolled by lifeguards during the summer season. The beach is ideal for playing in the waves, large enough to find solitude and perfect for barbeques as the sun goes down. John Miller painted most of his famous paintings of the view from his home on the Hayle river along the beach towards Godrevy and when you stand on the beach you can understand why. Virginia Woolf was equally inspired, writing To The Lighthouse after a visit to Godrevy Island. For those keen to explore the many clifftop paths and secluded coves then this area has much to offer. Gwithian truly is a place where you can get away from it all. Gwithian Holidays is situated in the centre of Gwithian village surrounded by a gorgeous old church, a restored Methodist chapel, picturesque cottages and plenty of fields. Within easy walking distance is a popular pub, the Red River Inn and three beach cafes all selling reasonably priced meals. The beach is just a few minutes walk away and seems to be where most of our guests spend a lot of their time. Just a few miles inland is the town of Hayle which offers a good choice of pubs and places to eat and a few miles further lies the popular harbour town of St Ives with its countless cafes, bars and restaurants.

The perfect location for all other places to visit in the area.
Clean and tidy
The place is clean and tidy, and furnished with neutral but practical decor. The property we were in seemed to have been recently decorated. The bathroom had heated flooring, but the bath itself was too small to stretch out in fully and properly relax. The kitchen had enough dishes etc. that we could prepare and cook our meals without any problems. The internet provision was always adequate, except for one night when it failed completely; it was up and running by the following morning. Laundry facilities are located in a separate room and is shared with the other occupants. A couple of small matters needed attending to during our stay (we could not lock the front door for example): they were dealt with quickly and efficiently by a friendly individual who was covering for the owners, who were away. It is about a 20-minute walk to the beach, and the path is pleasant and flat. There are no shops or convenience stores in the village or within a short walking distance. The people at the parish church were friendly and welcoming on the Sunday that we visited them. I would consider a re-visit, but for the price might also look elsewhere, in case I could get something for the same cost but a little closer to the beach. If you like staying somewhere quirky and individual, this is not for you. It you want something reliable and comfortable, then you will not have much to complain about if you stay here, as along as you are happy with what you are paying for.
Great apartment and location 2nd to none!
Had a pleasant stay, apartment could have been cleaner in places & Sofa had springs hanging out of bottom.
Great location to visit, Owners very helpfull and pub on the door step, with excellent food and beers!
Very enjoyable holiday!
Lovely accommodation nice quiet village location excellent pub opposite.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property.

We are really lucky that we are in such an ideal location for the beach or as a base for further exploration of our wonderful coastline.
And the pub, just a short walk away, ain't bad either!
Thanks again and look forward to seeing you again soon.
Summer at its best
Fabulous stay for us. Apartment was light, airy and clean. Could just do with a little more storage space in kitchen, some hooks for coats etc. Maybe a clothes aired too. Will be even better next year when we have booked a downstairs apartment to make it easier with the four legged friend.
Modern, comfortable relaxing stay
The apartment was very modern and comfortable. Its location is only a short walk (about 15mins) down the road and across the dunes to the wonderful sandy beach. It was great that we could bring the dog with us and made it a bit more home from home. The facilities in the apartment are great, modern fridge freezer, cooker and dishwasher, could do with a little more cupboard space to place all your food purchases and somewhere to hang your coats but otherwise very well equipt with a cafetiere and latte mugs and a few family favourite games! Tyson was great with his communication and it wasn't a problem that we were arriving late at night, popping in to visit us the following day. Thanks for a lovely stay The Harveys

All the best

Most people come to Cornwall for the beaches and here at Gwithian we are surrounded by them. We are a 10 minute walk from the golden sands of St Ives Bay and a short drive from most of Cornwall’s popular beaches. You could even find secret sheltered coves where it’s just you and the seals without too much effort.
Gwithian is the closest beach to the accommodation and makes up the northern most point of St Ives Bay. At low tide the beach stretches all the way down to Hayle over 3 miles away. The beach is well known for surfing, windsurfing and rock pooling, and is serviced by several excellent beach cafes and bars.
Fishermans Cove is where you go for solitude. Tucked away on the north cliffs a mile outside of Gwithian and down a precarious path this is the place to go to get away from it all. Beware though, it’s also known for being a nudist beach!
Portreath is 6 miles away driving east on the coastal road. This is a cracking little beach that is great for rock pooling or lazing on the sand. The car park is right on the waterfront so access is superb and there are some pleasant cafes and waterside pubs to go for your lunch and dinner.
If you fancy a bit of a drive then Porthcurno on the south coast is well worth the effort. Pure white sand and bright blue seas combine for the perfect day out. The Minack Theatre is just on the cliffs nearby so after you’ve showered off the sand you can take in some culture. Make sure you book in advance as tickets are hard to come by in the summer months. Porthcurno is a 45 minute drive away from the accommodation.
Poldhu and Church Cove are neighbouring beaches down on the Lizard peninsula and are as quiet as you could hope to find in Cornwall. There are good sized National Trust car parks nearby and there is an excellent golf course (Mullion Golf Club) in the area should you want to bring your clubs.
While you are down with us in Cornwall, why not have a surfing lesson? You don’t need too many excuses to get down to the beach, but surfing is another great reason to get some sand between your toes.
Through our sister company, Gwithian Academy of Surfing, we can provide you with everything that you will need to get you ‘up and riding’, making your holiday truly memorable. Whether you just want to hire a board and wetsuit to splash around in Gwithian’s beautiful waves or enroll on a course of lessons all of our guests get a 20% discount at the surf school.
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to places to eat and drink in Gwithian, Hayle and St Ives.
Within a very short walk of our self catering holiday lets is the excellent Red River Inn. The Red River Inn has got a fantastic reputation for food and real ales and it’s the focal point of the village. A few hundred metres further down the road is the Rockpool Seafood Bar & Grill and Godrevy Cafe which both sell good quality lunches and evening meals. Both are close to the beach and have large car parks nearby.
Heading into Hayle there are several pubs selling inexpensive meals as well as two Indian restaurants- the Balti King and Grameen Tandoori – a Chinese called Eastern Empire and two Italians – Pizza Patio and the newly opened Antonini’s. The Salt Bar is another good place to eat and it’s also a lively bar on Saturday nights.
If it’s fish you’re after then St Ives is the place. There are far too many for me to list here but Ocean Grill, Cafe Pasta and Seafood Cafe come highly recommended. If you really want to treat yourself then Porthminster Cafe is out of this world and the view from the dining room across the bay is worth the price in itself. There are several bars and pubs lining the harbour and Fore Street so just take your pick. They are all pretty good with Hub and the famous Sloop Inn being the pick of the bunch.
