Scott and I, Rupert, bought our property in July of 2003 but had the guest house built next door in 2005. Scott has had a career as a mental health therapist for many years and I am a graphic designer, cartoonist, illustrator, DJ and writer. Scott is originally from Northern California and I grew up in Chicago.

The Kinley Manor Guest House was built as a guest house. It was never another building converted into a guest house. It is a duplex so there is only one other unit to contend with. It has been praised for it's location—near the downtown area and the popular Pearl District without smack dab in the middle of all the chaos. It is situated on a tree-lined street, one block away from NE Broadway, one of Portland's main drags.
The Kinley Manor Guest House was awarded an Irvington Neighborhood Association award the year it was built, in 2005.
No complaints. Charming, well decorated and well stocked. There were books, DVDs, coffee, and teas. The owners live next door and were very hospitable and accommodating.
We stayed in this beautiful place for a conference we were attending in the Portland area and the accommodations, hospitality and friendliness were TOP notch! We'd stay here every time we come to Portland if we could! Thank you for being so fantastic and hope to stay again in the future!
This apartment was perfect for us. It slept our family very comfortably (it is not often you will hear me refer to a futon as comfortable, but it was!), the kitchen was perfect and it was clean and convenient to public transportation. Rupert and Scott were great. They were full of suggestions but also gave us our space. Wonderful! It was hot in Portland when we visited, but with the windows open this apartment stayed very cool!
First, let me say, Rupert is a gem! We met only briefly, but he is truly a man who emanates good energy. The apartment is cozy and very thoughtfully designed. I spent 3 nights and could have stayed 3 weeks. The neighborhood is beautiful, safe and very conducive to morning runs, walking to groceries (Whole Foods is about 9 blocks) and a variety of eating/entertainment establishments (less than 5 blocks). Parking was easy, not to mention access to a garage beneath the apartment if desired. The apartment has a well furnished, nicely appointed kitchen, cute gas fireplace, nice spacious bathroom and a cozy bed in the loft. You can't go wrong booking a stay here.
This was a lovely, well thought out apartment. Although it is small in size you would never know it! The apartment has a beautiful loft bedroom whose high ceiling makes it feel very spacious. The living/dining/kitchen are comfortably laid out. There is enough in the kitchen to allow you to cook easily. Although there is no bathtub, the shower is nicely sized. There The owners are very accommodating and seem to go out of their way to make their guests feel at home. The apartment is centrally located and very easy to access via public transportation.
Wow-what a great 'home-away-from-home'. Great location, quiet tree-lined neighborhood, and friendly owners. If we ever return to Portland, we're checking for a vacancy here--without even seeing what else there is..it's that good.
