Fabulous Magician Lake House with huge yard and excellent lake frontage

Vacation Rental Amenities: Our lake House is an all season home and includes heat and central air conditioning. This is a three bedroom two bathroom house with large dining area, cozy family room and spacious sun porch. Bedrooms accommodate approximately 8-10.
Rental week is Friday through Friday.

- Three bedrooms (sleeping a total of 6)
- Queen size sofa-bed in private family room (sleeps 2)
- Two twin daybeds on sunporch and queen air mattress (sleeps 3-4 kids)
- Bedrooms include pillows, sheets and blankets
- Towels are also supplied

Magician Lake is part of the “Sister Lakes” region of Lower Michigan, about 20 minutes east of St. Joseph and six miles northwest of the city of Dowagiac. It is the largest of the lakes in the Sister Lakes area with a total of 498 acres, three islands, two marinas and a sand bar. The gradual depth of Magician Lake makes it a great swimming lake for children, and boat rentals, fishing, water skiing and other lake activities are also available on the lake. There is one outlet on Magician Lake that is known as Silver Creek, located on the eastern shores. Other recreational activities in the area include hiking, biking, golf, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling and sledding. The nearby town of Dowagiac is filled with beautiful Victorian architecture and has a vibrant downtown area for shopping, restaurants, theaters and museums. St. Joseph is a deep-water port town that has picturesque brick roads and many unique shops, art galleries, antique shops and cafes.

Family vacation

My family had a great get away at this lake house. All the amenities we needed where already there. It’s a beautiful home on a beautiful lake, we would gladly go back again.

Beautiful home on Magician Lake

Lovely home with everything you need. Very clean upon arrival. We enjoyed our stay and recommend it. Iffy WIFI sometimes which made it difficult for those of us who had to "work" while on vacation. The stairs leading down to the lake are precarious, so keep that in mind if you have someone in your party who has physical limitations.

Another great week on Magician Lake

This is our second year renting this property. It's a great house with a backyard that backs up to the lake. Plenty of shallow water for the kids to play in. The house is clean, well equipped with what a family would need, and located near a wonderful pizza place and a couple of breweries. What more could we want?

Perfect getaway

I rented this home for my vacation with my daughter and her family. I had been looking at it online for a while and was glad we chose it. The house was very clean, very well laid out, and the proximity to a shallow waters edge was perfect for the little ones. There is nothing about the house or the neighborhood or the location on magician lake that I would have changed. I hope to be back next summer. The owner was very quick to answer when I asked a question and gave me a short list of great pizza, donuts, etc. Overall a perfect week.

Great Family Memories!

We stayed at this quaint lake house for our first family trip and it was everything we hoped. It had comfortable sleeping accommodations and a welcoming kitchen which was perfect for family meals. The large back yard was perfect for sunbathing, playing in the sand and late night campfires. The shallow water off the pier was very enjoyable with our little ones. The owners were also very responsive to any questions we had. We would recommend this lake house to anyone.

Enjoyable stay..

Nice and well maintained cottage with lake front property. Young ones enjoyed playing in the enclosed sand area and lake while the adults watched from on shore reclining lawn chairs. Fun nearby u-pick peach and raspberry farms for family outings.

Happy Family Memories!!!

What a wonderful trip this was for our family. The stay at "Mello Yellow" was a very pleasant experience! We appreciated Monique and Scott sharing their beautiful home with us! The home was clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. It was a pleasure to prepare meals in such a well equipped kitchen. I spent many happy Summer's in the Sisters Lakes area as a child and highly recommend this home for a peaceful, but fun filled family vacation. The booklet of local activities provided to us by the Strongs was throughly researched and user friendly. There were six of us, my husband and our two adult sons, wife and girlfriend. The home was comfortable for all of us including a disabled member of our group. We look forward to spending time together at "Mello Yellow" some time in the future. Karen Frankfort, Illinois

Excellent place to bring family

Wonderful, relaxing week!

We really enjoyed our stay. The large kitchen was terrific for preparing meals and enjoying them with our large family! The sandy beach and sandy shallow lakefront was perfect for the kids as well as the large grassy yard for them to run and play games in! Enjoying a nice fire in the fire pit was always a nice way to end a busy day and relax. Also loved drinking coffee on the large deck in the morning and watching the sun rise. Enjoyed some good fishing as well. Nice and quite because of its location at the end of a dead end road.

Beautiful property!

This house is very lovely, and nicer than depicted in the photos - which is usually not the case with a rental property! It was fully equipped, and I very much appreciated that items like dishwasher detergent,laundry detergent, etc. were provided. The owners and caretakers were very responsive to any questions we had. The only negative about the property is that there is not much of a beach, which made it difficult for our little children to play in the water. There is a retaining wall with steps down to a fairly rocky beach, and the waves really kick up when there is boat traffic - not easy for little kids to manuever. Probably better for older kids who can jump off the end of the pier to swim. But overall, we loved this property.

Wonderful Lakehouse!!!

We stayed for a week 3 years ago and a weekend last Fall and we just booked another week for this summer. The home is decorated very nicely and the kitchen is better than any kitchen I have ever had! It has beautiful hardwood floors throughout (including the bedrooms). We had a group of 8 which included 2 couples and 4 kids. It is set down a private road on the really nice part of the lake (no weeds, just clean water). It was perfect for our kids who are all younger in age. There is a very large yard where we played volley ball and hung out by the fire pit. Everything we needed was already there. We love to cook and found the kitchen to be a delight. The beds were comfortable and everything was really clean when we arrived. We have stayed on other lakes nearby before and found them it to be a disappointment. Either no yard space or the water had receded. Magician is the best lake out of all the sister lakes and is the largest. We would highly recommend this place and can't wait to stay there again. M. Wonderful lake house!!!

My husband and I stayed at Mellow Yellow with friends for our much needed week long vacation last year. It was a wonderful time. The lake house is situated on a private road and is resting high on a bluff with wonderful views down to the lake. The lake is about 500 acres and the water is very clean. The water is about hip deep until you walk out a ways, so it feels very safe. They have a huge back yard with a firepit and this year when we stayed there just for the weekend we noticed so many more improvements, like a new sea wall and pier and they added a gigantic new deck and paved patio with new grill and seating area. We had a total of 7 people on our vacation and that seemed to be just right. Although the home could sleep up to 10. They also keep it very nice, everything was in working order and they have someone managing it who was very helpful and only lives a couple of doors down, but when we needed anything she was available. I also liked the fact that they have nice furniture, comfortable beds and nice linens. I've stayed at some places that were just plain old gross! This place is charming and has alot of character. They supplied everything, pots, pans, wine opener, coffee maker, towels, sheets, laundry detergent...it was all there. They also had a large binder with fun things to do in the area and directions. The downtown area of Dowagiac is only a 15 minute drive and we had a wonderful dinner at Wood Fire grill. There are also wineries within 20 or 30 minutes. We had such a great time...we really did not want to leave. As I mentioned, we came back recently just for a weekend getaway, and although it was short, we felt totally recharged. We visited some local antique shops which was really fun and went bike riding around the lake. The sunrise in the morning from the deck is priceless! We also noticed an area in the house with lots of games and toys for small kids, although we did not have kids on our trip, it looked like it would be really nice for small kids. I highly recommend this lake house for a family vacation...it is lovely!

When we got married in 2004, we made a list of things we wanted to do. Purchasing a lake house where our someday kids could build memories was one of our dreams.
We live in the city 4 blocks from Wrigley Field so having a place to escape to in the summer months is really awesome!
I'm a realtor in the city and Scott is in the technology world. We have two girls and one dog and we love raising our girls in a dynamic urban environment.
Since we purchased Mellow Yellow, two other family friends of ours purchased on the lake along with repeat guests of Mellow Yellow. So don't be surprised if you too end up purchasing on this lake! We chose mellow yellow because of the potential it had and for the amazing location on the lake. It sits high on a hill with an amazing view of the lake. It has 60 feet of private lake frontage and a huge grassy yard. It is also down a private road with low traffic.
Over the years we have completely remodeled the interior. We took the floors out and re-built the foundation. The house is one of the original homes on the lake, so before renovating the kitchen we wanted to make sure the structure was intact.
Surprisingly, the house was in great shape and after some reinforcement to the foundation, we added new hardwood floors throughout, painted all the dark wood white, opened up the kitchen and added new cabinets, quartz countertops and new stainless steel appliances. We added central HVAC, a new roof and a large deck off the sunporch. It's hardly recognizable now from when we bought it. We tried to keep as much original charm that we could, but it has a much more functional plan and a fantastic chefs kitchen.
Magician Lake is the largest of the sister lakes and it has a nice sandy bottom.
