From our Guestbook: This is our second year to vacation here [and] What another wonderful time we had...Our grandchildren (and even adults) had wonderful times in the pool with all the pool toys. Our son from Atlanta brought 2 kayaks and they were a hit this year! We just love the spacious rooms, walking to the beach and village, seeing the places we saw last year as well as new ones. We especially like all of us having our last meal together on Saturday morning at The Sand Castle -- then we are off back to work and normal routine of carpooling, etc. We will wait patiently for our return trip next year! (Family from Birmingham and Atlanta).

(We) enjoyed a great family get together. The location was great....What a nice time for cousins, aunts & uncles, & two new third generation little ones. Thanks for allowing us to stay in your home. The spacious living room/dining & games area gave us great accommodations. We fell in live with the Golden Isl. (Family gathered from FL, TN, AL, GA and Nebraska).

From our Guestbook: We loved the house. It was perfect for our family reunion. After a rough beginning (Tropical Storm Faye) -- we were pleasantly surprised with a great weather week. The pool was awesome! The children and adults loved swimming in it morning, noon and night. We found all sorts of wildlife on the beach. Walking into town, shopping and miniature golf were great. We loved the pumpkin bread at Barbara Jeans. The little kids table worked out well as we ate lunch & dinner outside by the pool. Thanks for sharing your home! (Three generations from Boston)

The Ladies from St. Marys, Stuart, Florida had a long weekend of wellness & fun! This home suited our needs and held 10 of us beautifully.

Thank you. (Elementary School chums 60+ years later)

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your photos showed me so much info. Bring your own drinking water because the sulphur is high in the local water. What did I love? The stove!! The hardwood floors throughout the house. The Master bedroom white walls and ceiling. The memories. Oh and the close walk to the main street. You feel like one of the locals.

Charming, Clean, and Convenient!

  • 5 of 5

This property is loaded with history, character, and amenities. Walking distance from restaurants and the waterfront, but you may never want to leave the grounds with the spacious private pool surrounded by beautifully manicured gardening, comfortable beds, full kitchen, and large TV set up in a common area that would be fantastic for a rainy movie night. I have visited this home on two separate occasions and it has been spotless and well maintained both times.

Fantastic Home

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our St. Simmons long weekend. Our stay was wonderful. The home is in the best location on the island in my opinion. Two blocks from restaurants and shopping and one block from the beach. Home very well appointed. Very comfortable. The pool was the best. Two thumbs up

The Lane Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

Location Location. St Simons Island offers many options for a varied holiday party and the Carriage House is ideally situated to explore within a wide radius of home base and satisfy diverse interests.

We believe you get what you pay for and we wanted something a little upscale from basic condo or villa offerings. We got it and enjoyed all the facilities and comforts.

The property is extremely well appointed and maintained

and we improved this by thoroughly servicing the Jenn Air BBQ.

The history of the Island and neighboroughing Jekyll were the subject of a 20 question quiz. This prompted visits to as many of the local monuments and buildings of interest as could be fitted in.The winners went home with the Reunion Cup.

The Oyster Shack in Brunswick was the only restaurant/bar that we used. Lunch of oysters and shrimp were the popular choices.

The Sea Food Market on Gloucester Street was our main source of food as we all like fresh fish.

Fishing from the pier was not good due to the tides being all wrong but we tried.

Our families came from Australia, England, Boston, and South Carolina. Everyone loved the choice of venue.

The Carriage House looks to be a very popular choice for large gatherings and we would recommend it.

As the largest state east of the Mississippi and the thirteenth colony, Georgia offers travelers breathtaking historic homes, natural beauty, the Atlantic Ocean, and plenty of variety and fun. Convenient by air from the USA's busiest airport Atlanta, or by car just off I-95 which takes you from NYC to Miami and close to Orlando. In the 18th century Georgia's Savannah attracted adventurous settlers. In the 19th century the world's wealthiest families choose Jeyll Island and Cumberland Island. Today you can choose St. Simons Island, the most comfortable and easy-going of the golden isles -- with wide beaches, cute shops and great restaurants. Take the toll-free causeway over the marshes of Glynn, and just before you cross the sparkling intercoastal waterway, look for the lighthouse on your right. The Strachan Carriage House is just a block from the lighthouse.

Other Activities: Enjoy Golden Isles's canopy of live oak trees when you stroll along the water in the village to the historic lighthouse, the miniature golf course, the fishing pier, the Glynn Arts Center and village shops, restaurants, sweet shops, ice cream shops and fun vacation shops. Or sit at the pier and watch ocean going vessels bound for the world. Outfitters can help you Kayak in the marshes or sightsee for dolphins on old shrimp boat. Bike the length of the island on new bike paths, or visit Georgia Sea Turtle Center in Millionaire's Village on Jekykl Island.

Golf: Georgia's Golden Isles offer great golfing on public courses and private courses.
