About this property

St. Simons Island Pool Home - Sleeps 16 - Walk to Beach & Village

About this property

A Historic Carriage House, Reimagined for Modern Family Gatherings
Featured in Coastal Living Magazine and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Strachan Carriage House pairs 5,000 sq ft of historic charm with the space and amenities today's multi-generational families actually need. Six bedrooms sleep 16 across king, queen, and twin configurations — built for 2–3 families or a large friend group under one roof, not stacked into separate units.

Steps to Everything

Tucked into a quiet residential block, you're a 1–2 block stroll to both the beach and the village — a rare combination on St. Simons Island. Walk to shopping, restaurants, the fishing pier, and mini golf, or head straight to the sand.

Built for Groups, Not Just Couples

- Private, heated pool with a deep end (heated November–March — a standout on the island)
- Gated parking for 5 vehicles
- Chef's kitchen: Sub-Zero, Bosch, and Garland appliances, plus a large outdoor Weber grill
- Handmade oak dining table seating 12
- Third-floor home theater with surround sound
- 52-foot veranda overlooking the pool and garden
- Yard set up for croquet and bocce

What Past Guests Say

Multi-generational families keep coming back — several guests describe it as their second or third consecutive year, citing the pool, the walkability, and enough shared space for grandparents, parents, and kids to gather without feeling on top of each other. Groups have ranged from 10-person weekend reunions to full three-generation family trips spanning six states.

Steps From the Beach and the Village

Climb the St. Simons Lighthouse, crab or watch dolphins from the fishing pier, bike the island, or kayak the marsh — all within walking or easy biking distance.

This house was perfect for our family of 15. We have six grandchildren 8 to 12 years old and the third-floor bedrooms, bathrooms, and den housed them beautifully. They also enjoyed the pool. The second floor was enjoyed by our three married children and my husband and I stayed in the pool house. The master bedroom had plenty of room for the four-month-old grandchild. Everything was clean and check-in was so easy. The owner checked on us several times and was easy to work with. We parked two golf carts and four vehicles with ease. We hope to stay at the Strachan Carriage house again. What a great historical location!

Beautiful, historic home with amazing accessibility to all St. Simons has to offer. We walked to the weekend market, enjoyed the pool and terrace, rode bicycles and made memories. Patty and Susan made for a very hospitable stay- we had our annual family holiday at the Carriage Strachan house and were so blessed by it. Absolutely beautiful location.

Wonderful and attentive host. The property is in a fantastic location, perfect walking distance to the village. The gated parking is ideal. The pool and patio is the gem of this property, it is where we spent the majority of our stay. The showers needed some attention (the claw foot tubs on the third floor had a hole cut in the curtain for the shower head and they didn't close all the way)and the changing company may need to be given a call since there was a layer of dust on all light fixtures and fans.

We had 14 family members meeting in St Simon for a family reunion and this place was wonderful. The home has such old world charm and is decorated with such a warm style that you immediately begin relaxing the moment you walk into the place. And the location is ideal - it is just a minute walk from the beach and a 3 minute walk from the main street of the village or a 5 minute drive from a grocery store among other businesses. The place was perfect for our large group - there was common areas for us all to relax by the pool, eat or play games together while also having enough space for individuals or smaller groups seeing solace to read or have a conversation.

Truly Unique Home is a Great Location

Staying at this property is truly a unique experience. The place has an historical feel and the secluded pool area enabled us to gather and visit with family from 7am first coffee to the last cocktail of the night. The location is close to the pier and close to the water. We are already planning our next visit to the area and this house!

So glad we chose this property for our extended family. Plenty of room for everyone and spread out for lots of privacy if wanted. The pool was clean and the perfect temperature. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony and patio in the mornings and such a short walk to the shops and restaurants and pier. Would definitely stay there again.

Close to beach & downtown which the kids loved. Rented a golf cart that added to the fun. Patti was quick to respond when we called about the pool crew missing the Tuesday cleaning. We rent a summer home every two years & this was one of our favorite.

There for a family wedding & accommodated all ages very well. Love location & the outdoor spaces! Lots of nooks for alone time if needed! Well stocked fir everything! Only downside was the cramped kitchen… and really in need of all new pillows !

Ken, So glad our home worked well as a fun and comfortable base from which your family headed to all the wedding events. Yes, our kitchen is best suited for 1-2 cooks, but luckily there are a lot of places out side the kitchen where guests can sit and wait for those family top chefs to deliver delicious food. Thanks for the head-up about pillows -- we are sorting through them now.

New Years in St Simons

The house is in a great location and has a lot of history. There was plenty of beds for everyone. The backyard/pool area is a wonderful area to sit and relax. The kitchen was a little small but we made it work. The main living area could use a larger TV but overall, it was a great stay!!

This is a great place to stay with a large group. We had our family gather after 3 years and were busy the whole time. The house is in a great location. We could walk to the village and to the pier. We usually did the beach in the morning and then after nap time, we would use the pool. Also went to some great restaurants.

About the host

Midwest native came to Georgia 40+ years ago to develop visitor programs and museums at 54 state parks and historic sites. Stayed for the history, the nature, and yes, much much better weather.

Why they chose this property

Unique historic property close to the village lighthouse, fishing pier, restaurants, shops, and beach but in a quiet residential neighborhood.

What makes this property unique

Perfect for three generations to sit together at dining room table, float and splash at the same time in the large pool, catch up and gossip on the 52 ft veranda, or slip away for quiet nap and last chapters of a great page turner. Solid construction -- They don't build em like this anymore.
