Woodpecker Barn is one of nine cottages that have been sympathetically converted from the existing buildings of a working farm. Enjoying peace and quiet, the holiday cottages are set amidst pasture land, and benefit from beautiful and unforgettable views of stunning countryside. With a heated 38ftx16ft indoor swimming pool and quality recreational facilities. Woodpecker Barn is one of two detached cottages with a large lounge with wood burning stove, well equipped kitchen/diner, downstairs cloak room, all bedrooms incl. flat screen TVs, Freeview and DVD players. Free Wi-Fi, heating, linen, towels etc. all included. Woodpecker Barn has the added advantage of its own private garden with 180 degree views of stunning countryside. Woodpecker Barn is part of a complex which benefits not only from the communal indoor swimming pool, but also a games room and external children's play area, picnic area & barbeque.

First class property, superbly equipped. The information provided in advance was also great and as good as we have seen for a long time.The family also enjoyed the pool and the children's play area.Our only disappointment was that there were no footpaths local to the property that we could use for a walk, but that is not a fault with the property.We would recommend the property without reservation.

Wonderful!

Woodpecker Barn is spacious with three large double bedrooms and plenty of living space. Lovely area and outlook across the fields. The play area and games room for all aged children plus the indoor pool was enjoyed. Louise was helpful and everything ran very smoothly. Would highly recommend and would stay again if in the area.

Fantastic Woodpecker Barn

Woodpecker Barn was amazing perfect for our family with young children. Well equipped and beautifully decorated. private fenced garden was a plus. Good Location to get to places but you have to be ok with very narrow lanes as there are lots of them . Would definitely recommend

Wonderfully equipped barn with stunning surroundings

The property is very clean and seems newly refurbished with very tasteful decorations, furnishings, bedding etc. It is very well equipped with a fully working kitchen, games and dvd's. The views from the back of the barn are beautiful and uninterrupted and the swimming pool and games room a real bonus. Would recommend a visit.

A great accommodation .

A wonderful accommodation in a small development of converted barns. The barn is pristine, beautifully decorated and furnished and has everything a family would need for a holiday. Stair gates , travel cots and a high chair are provided along with a range of indoor and out door toys and games. The garden is private and fenced so very safe for children. The on-site swimming pool, playground and games room are great for keeping everyone entertained. The views from the barn are amazing and our grandchild was delighted to see the sheep and cows in the adjacent fields. A delightful accommodation that we hope to visit again.

Lovely barn but pool issues were disappointing

Pros - the barn is comfy, well equipped, warm and was well set up for us staying with friends and children (toys, potty, toddler cutlery and plates, 2 high chairs set up as we'd requested). We also enjoyed the games room Cons - one big negative was that the pool had a mechanical fault during our stay, so it was very cold when we did go in, and then closed for the rest of our stay. We were disappointed as we'd especially looked for places with a pool for our January stay, to entertain the little ones when it rained (which it did, a lot!)

Absolute Serenity!

We chose to stay at Woodpecker Barn when we flew over from the States, primarily because of its proximity to my parentā€™s house in a neighboring village. We wanted peace, tranquillity and somewhere to unwind as we were dealing with my Dadā€™s illness. Woodpecker Barn delivered SO much more than just a place to stay. Despite the circumstances, we ended up thoroughly enjoying our time in the beautiful Devon countryside setting. Waking up each morning, having coffee watching the light break over the misty fields and nothing but the faint sound of sheep bleating, and a gentle rumbling of a passing train.Absolute heaven. The barn itself was SO well maintained, organized and fully equipped. The layout worked so well for our family, having young children, we could cook whilst they played happily in the open downstairs level. The facilities on site were also such a wonderful addition especially for keeping children entertained. My son didnā€™t want to leave the park most days. Iā€™m very grateful to the lovely host Louise who was very accommodating, communicative and supportive during our stay. Weā€™ll be coming back again for sure. Thank you

Woodpecker Barn

This is a fantastic place to stay - spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything you might need. The accommodation was perfect for the four adults and two young children. The kitchen and living room are both large and well appointed. There is a swimming pool and games room which were great if you want to spend some time on site. It is a perfect location if you are visiting South Devon, Totnes, Torquay, Slapton Sands, Newton Abbott all within easy reach. Dartmoor National Park is well worth visting . The Cathedral City of Exeter is 25 miles away. We visited both Paignton Zoo and Pennywell Farm which are great childrens attractions I would highly recommend this property for a family stay in Devon.

Absolutely spot on with the description of the barn, couldnā€™t have asked for anything more. Barn was very clean. Communication with owner was good, I did have issue with oven and grill owner got back very quickly, but this was mainly on my part as didnā€™t read instructions properly. Overall fantastic stay would definitely stay again and recommend to family and friends. Good amount of toys for children, games, dvdā€™s. Lovely private garden with ample garden furniture and parasol Just a lovely relaxing stay. Thank you

Superb Location

From the moment we arrived on Saturday 26 June 2021 with the sun shining we were impressed with the property. Everything we could want was provided. Plenty of space and very comfortable bedrooms. The whole house has been very tastefully furnished. On Sunday it rained all day so a couple of us used the swimming pool and a couple had a game of pool.. The weather from there on was sunshine each day so we took several day trips, the location is ideal for touring. The garden, overlooking fields of sheep was a delight for relaxing with a BBQ and a glass of wine. The end of our week came too quickly and we were sad to leave.

Countryside stay

We had a lovely family holiday at the property. It was great to have exclusive use of the pool and games room, under the present circumstances. Itā€™s equipped to a high standard. The beds and pillows were really comfy. It was lovely to sit outside and just hear countryside noises. The property is very handily based for getting to the coast, Dartmoor and driving into Dorset.

Excellent UK Vacation

First time in a number of years for a UK holiday. Was looking for a quiet but well placed base which I found with this property A stunning view with a super job done on the conversion of this barn, all the family really enjoyed this holiday and would recommend to any family looking for this type of holiday to give this a chance. A mixture of relaxation and days out gave this holiday a 5 star rating from our family Chris

Fantastic property.

This is a fantastic property. Everything looked very clean and superb on our arrival. The house is well stocked with everything you need. Because of covid restrictions the pool was limited to 1 hour a day time slot. Sometimes to late in the day for the little ones, but was still lovely to be able to use the pool and fully understand restrictions. The house is a little bit tricky to get to, through narrow lanes. But that is the only slight negative. I would definitely recommend this property and will definitely return. Thank you Louise.

We adore this property! So homey but yet enough space for us all. Can be difficult to find (the directions provided though were spot on). Once you arrive you feel youā€™re in your own piece of hidden away paradise. The views are incredible and being able to sit outside with a bbq/fire pit was heavenly given that weā€™ve been cooped up in our flat! Thanks for having us, love to be back again in the future.

Fantastic holiday

We really enjoyed our stay, Woodpecker Barn was exactly what we needed. A very tranquil setting in the countryside overlooking the farmland. It was 30-45 minutes from all the main places to visit in South Devon, so nothing was too far away. Local pubs and supermarkets 15 mins or less. The Barn was spacious and kitted out to a high standard. Having access to a pool and a playground on our doorstep was a bonus for our young kids. Weā€™ll definitely look to book here again next year! spacious and clean.

Beautiful location marvellous facilities

We absolutely loved the cottage everything was provided I mean everything! Once we negotiated the Devon lanes we visited beaches , zoo ,Pub gardens for lunch it was relaxing once we found our bearings Our only disappointment was pool didnā€™t open owing to Covid but playground great for children canā€™t sing itā€™s praises high enough !!!

Excellent property for a lovely holiday

Lovely welcoming holiday home. House was very clean on arrival, extremely well equipped throughout - particularly the kitchen and also the large toy box a bonus for our 3 year old. Pool was excellent for rainy days (in Dec each time we used we were the only people). Garden and playground didnā€™t get much use due to the weather but also excellent. Location as expected (per owners info) as we are familiar with Devon country lanes but do take note that these are single track with high hedges and not a particularly smooth ride! Only other note is the bath is a short one so fine for bathing children but donā€™t expect an adult to have a relaxing soak - but the 2 power showers make up for it.

Excellent stay

Well, I didn't expect this to be so excellent. It was a wonderful place to stay. All thought has been put into everything you'd want or need. Bonus of a warm swimming pool and ping pong next door to us. We all needed a break, and this place certainly provided that.

Enjoyable family stay

Woodpecker Barn has everything you need and more for a family holiday. The amount of toys, dvds, games etc was very impressive as well as a very well stocked kitchen. The property was much larger than it looked in the pictures. Would definitely recommend

Woodpecker Barn is part of a complex of nine converted cottages that were built on a working farm in 2004. The current owners are siblings Louise Baker and James Mathews, who purchased Woodpecker Barn in October 2014, made aware of it's availability from a family friend.


Louise was sports mad as a child and has carried that through her adult years, albeit conceding that motherhood is twice as challenging as any netball or athletics competition. A keen angler, James would spend everyday by the waters edge if circumstances would allow and does so even when they don't.
