About Tim Saasta
One thing we've learned from decades of renting and now owning vacation rental houses is that perhaps the most important factor is whether the owner uses the house regularly. We do. We love the house and the area. We spend a lot of time at the house during the offseason, working on it and enjoying it. It's also a great place to write, which is part of my job. When owners use a house for more than a week in the summer, they make sure the kitchen is well equipped. They make sure everything works and is comfortable. You don't want your sister-in-law complaining about the beds! They also add to the house over time, as we have done even after the initial renovation. We love the land and we've spent tons of time getting it as beautiful as it is. There's more to do but it's been gratifying to see it come back to life over time.

Why Tim Saasta chose Dundee
We were introduced to Keuka Lake 20 years ago by friends in Rochester. We kept coming back. We bought this house with our friends because it had spectacular potential. Restoring this house -- built as early as the 1840s -- has been a ton of work, but worth it.
What makes this House unique
The sunset view. The secluded pebble beach. The house. The covered porch. Biking/walking along East Lake Rd. The area. The view.

A nice place to stay
A nice, roomy house. We enjoyed the porch with the beautiful view of the lake. The owner was very helpful, and communicating with him was easy. It was so great to have some kitchen staples available to use. The beach had a very rocky bottom that was hard for the children to navigate, so we would recommend bringing floating toys to use. We had a very nice time and wished we could have stayed longer.
Review of Lakespell
The house was perfect for our needs. It is stocked with everything you will need, especially in the kitchen and adjoining pantry. Having a washer and dryer came in handy as well. The front porch is the real star - sitting there in the morning and enjoying the sunny evenings was something we all treasured and miss now that we are gone. The walk to the lake is somewhat steep but easy to traverse. The firepit, chairs, and dock were all used frequently by our family. We rented a small boat and had no trouble docking there to drop off/pick up people. We visited a few local breweries and wineries, hiked at Watkins Glen, and biked the Penn Yan Canal trail. We recommend the Switz, Olney Place, and the Spotted Duck (for ice cream). What a great home in a great area.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. There were a few things that would have made it more enjoyable. We are an older couple and did not expect all the bedrooms to be upstairs. The house is an older home , so the stairs were very steep and the steps themselves very narrow. Also, the TV is very touchy and takes a special touch to get it to work. Detailed instructions would have been helpful. I always appreciate it when rentals allow us to bring our dogs with us, so I always be sure to run the vacuum on our last day in the rental. We did enjoy our stay and we appreciate any chance to have our dogs come with, so we are flexible in what we get.
Very sorry you didn't fully enjoy your stay in our house. Our new TV is tricky because of the built-in Roku player. However, our house notes explain in detail how to get back to cable TV, a section we highlight in red. We mail and email our instructions to all renters. We'll be sure to put the instructions on the TV itself.
In relation to the bedrooms, they are indeed upstairs. We try to make this clear in our description of the house. The steps are narrow, as is often the case with a house built in the mid-19th Century. But we will add this fact to our description.
Place was in great location, a little outdated, but quaint
We thought we were a little more private, pictures make you think you’re the only one located there, but wasn't bad. Some upgrading could be done to the home. Property did not appear to be properly cleaned prior to our arrival. But after some cleaning we’d stay again. The view alone was great. If you have kids there is only one TV in home. Owner was great to communicate with.
Awesome place to stay!!!
Was impressed from the moment we arrived! View of the lake was stunning, even though it was overcast for most of our trip. House was clean and owner provided everything that you needed (paper towels, toilet paper, dishwasher packs, dish soap, pots & pans, dishes, silverware, serving platters, trash bags, linens, blankets, and even hand soap). Very nice place looks just like the pictures show!! Great experience!!!
We loved staying in this charming and characterful cottage. Everything was comfortable and convenient. The owners make sure guests feel welcome. The best part of this house, though...that view from the covered porch! The water is accessible down an embankment right across the street. We had a cozy fire one of our evenings there, right at the water's edge. A quiet and peaceful getaway.
