Little Yellow Cottage: Steps to Lanikai Beach

Nestled in the beachside residential community of Lanikai in Kailua, this home is well appointed with all the creature comforts of a home away from home. It is a separate and distinct 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath cottage. Upstairs is a full kitchen and a living/dining area as well as a convenient half bath. Downstairs are two bedrooms: the master with a queen-sized bed and the second one with two twins. Both share a jack and jill full bathroom. The home is fully furnished, including a TV, books, games, toys as well as beach towels, linens, and an initial supply of paper products and soaps including dish soap, laundry soap and body soap.

The front porch opens out to a very large monkey pod tree, spanning two properties and home to songbirds (manu mele) - our morning serenade!!

It is only a five to seven minute walk to the world famous Lanikai beach, the best swimming beach in all of Hawai’i. The town of Kailua is a seven minute drive, making us close to shopping, some great restaurants and the Kailua Beach Center that rents kayaks and other ocean toys. The property is managed by a long-term resident of Hawaii.

Little Yellow Cottage

The little yellow cottage was the perfect place to base our daily adventures from. The cottage was bright, inviting, and neat as a pin. We hope to return soon!

Just as advertised... WONDERFUL

This cottage is just as advertised! Clean, cozy, and nestled into the lush neighborhood of Lanikai. 5 minute walk to the best beach on the island. The cottage is very peaceful and the owners / hosts were very accommodating. From arranging our stay to sending weather updates by email when asked, the owners were very gracious. While at the cottage, the owners were available as needed but not intrusive at all. The cottage was stocked with everything we needed. Beds were very comfy AC units worked well. This rental is perfect for a family or two couples looking for a quiet spot on Oahu (been here 8 times and have stayed in this area 4 of those 8). We will be returning and will make this rental our first choice!

Clean and comfortable

Stayed here for a week with Grandma, Grandpa, Mom (me), and 1 year old baby on the verge of walking. The place was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. Big bonus for me that Nancy had a travel crib, so we didn't have to haul ours. She had all the beach toys and towels you could need. Convenient to Kailua Town and beach. Nancy was friendly and welcoming, and even brought my daughter a gift. The only negative was the mosquitos: there were so many in the yard outside that we couldn't spend time out there, which was frustrating as usually my daughter spends 75% of her time outside, and the pictures of the shaded yard were one reason we chose this place. We had to be careful when opening the door to not let them inside. I got eaten alive the first night! We didn't see mosquitos anywhere else around. (Our stay was mid-April). A very good experience overall though -- recommended!

Lovely Vacation

My husband, myself and our almost 4 yr old boy stayed at this quaint and peaceful cottage back in June 2013. The cottage is decorated very well and is up to date with all amenities (cooktop, dishwasher, cooking supplies, TV etc...). It was very clean and inviting. The 2 story cottage features a lovely deck leading to the front door, and even though the upstairs living room/kitchen combo is not large, it worked well for us. The two downstairs bedrooms were quiet and my son napped peacefully in his own room. Nancy and Bob were wonderful hosts and so nice and easy to get along with. The surrounding property itself is just as it should be. Beautiful, tropical and lots of cool things for my son to see (i.e. Birds, geckos, exotic plants ...oh and their cute dog Bella). The little grassy patio & deck out front was great for him to roam around in and play. The BBQ was easy to use and we grilled almost every night. There is a Whole Foods (great perk for us) not too far (15 min drive) and getting into town was very convenient. We walked down to the beach every day. June was a little bit more windy at the actual beach than we would have liked it to be but at the cottage it was always perfect. All in all the cottage was perfect for us. Very private, as it sits at the back of Bob and Nancy's property. We felt very safe and had our own designated parking spot down their long driveway. There were also plenty of sand toys and beach accessories for us to play with, which made it so much easier than us having to buy/bring our own! We can’t wait to come back and visit again.

False advertisement on the

I have used vrbo for many years and never have been disappointed in the homes we chose. This cottage is nothing like the photos nor do you have any privacy. The owners can literally see me cooking meals through the windows from their own windows. The owner, Nancy, welcomed herself right in multiple times. After we called her out on looking through our windows she claimed quote it was "the Hawaian Way". After her rude Attitude towards my comment on feeling uncomfortable with her snooping, we decided to read more on some reviews on the cottage. One reviewer states they had to pay 30 dollars for a hole in the wall that the reviewer says they did it do. We stayed almost a year after this person and believe it or not- that hole was still in the hallway. So where did that 30 dollars go Nancy? The pictures stating they were stairs "off to the beach" were steps to her front door? Very false advertisement. She also came up to our door multiple times to remind us to turn the AC unit off. Making our stay very hot and stressful. Clothes washer does not work, beds are not comfortable, and the couch in the kitchen only fits two. Very disappointed in our stay and I do not recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a private relaxing home.

Comfy feels like home

Our family had a wonderful time in Lanikai. The house is well equipped with everything we needed for our 14 days there. Beds, linens and towels super comfy and new. Great shower and well ventilated living room and bedrooms. Residential neighborhood. Walking distance from the most beautiful sunrise in Oahu. Nancy is super kind.

Home was even better than expected. Clean, perfect location, everything needed was on site- including spices! The whole family enjoyed the stay, all agreed it was our best family vacation ever!

No longer poaradise.

Basics rate is reasonable until all extra fees are added. Very expensive stay. Major road work in local area restricted parking all day. Since we could not walk to the local beach carrying supplies, we had to use Kailua Beach Park, which is very busy. Disappointing.

Wonderfull cottage in perfect location

Communication with the host prior to arrive and during our stay was clear and timely. Nancy provided all check in details weeks before our arrival. Upon arrival, the Little Yellow Cottage is very well cleaned and staged to receive us. It is very well stocked with everything we needed for our three week stay. This included kitchen utensils, dinnerware, cookware, condiments, seasoning so you can cook yourself (Foodland, Wholefoods are a 10-15min drive away). This property also came with four beach chairs, snorkels, two pairs of fins, plenty of beach toys for the kids. and a small cooler. The two bedrooms are large and the beds were very comfortable. There are plenty of linens and towels. Having a washer and dryer was super helpful. The cottage itself is located about 10mins walk from Lanikai beach. It is very nicely tucked away in what I can best describe as a mini jungle. If you love the sounds of nature, then open the windows and be enchanted. Parking is available on the property. We absolutely loved this cottage. We miss it already and we recommend it to anyone who looks to stay in the Lanikai/Kailua area.

Wonderful get away!

We enjoyed the very clean and pretty cottage. It was very well appointed and nice attention to details that made it very comfortable. We had everything we needed for a great vacation. Nancy was a wonderful host!

Respite from the snow.

Nancy communicated with us frequently, before, during and after our stay. She was the ultimate host, providing us with guidance such as, wear wide- rimmed hats and lots of sunscreen. We found out from many locals that Lanikai was a special neighborhood and we were lucky to have chosen the Little Yellow Cottage for our stay. Just an easy walk to what is considered the most beautiful beach on the island brings you to paradise. The water is chrystal clear. The breeze soothed us to sleep, at night. And the beautiful birds cheerfully greeted us, each morning. And the cottage was lovely and full of natural light. Thank you, Nancy!

Yellow Little Cottage Perfection

My family was looking for a rental close to Lanikai that was clean with 2 bedrooms. We came across Nancy's listing that met our needs and more. She greeted us upon our arrival and gave us a run down of the property. The rental was clean, had an awesome lay out where kids could have their own room and the best thing of all...it had an in unit washer/dryer. It’s only a 10-15 minute walk to the beach and Nancy offered chairs, umbrellas and beach toys. We have stayed at a number of rentals in the area and this is the best by far. I think we have found our place for the next visit!

Peaceful time in Lanikai/Kailua

Lovely respite in a beautiful, serene location within easy walking distance to beach. Our hostess, Nancy, was very friendly, very helpful with all arrangements and gave us some great ideas for outings. We would gladly rent again. One caution is that the local birds wake up early - not an issue for us as we do, too. We loved the sounds as it reminded us exactly where we were - a tropical paradise. We highly recommend it.

Piece of paradise

We had a wonderful stay at the Little Yellow Cottage! It was cozy, tasteful and in a great neighborhood. The house had everything we needed and was the right size for four of us. The location is close to the beach and the neighborhood is very safe. Nancy was very hospitable and kind. She personally greeted us and checked on us every day. It was a very pleasant experience.

A lovely stay

We had a lovely 2-week stay at the little yellow cottage in Lanikai. Loved the location - a 5-minute walk to the beach but just off the main traffic loop. And the cottage was nice and cosy and perfect for the 3 of us. Nancy was a very responsive host. Loved it.

tutto ottimo ed attrezzato in zona tranquilla e immersa nella natura, ottima posizione strategica per accedere alla vicina spiaggia di Lanikai. Spaziosa e funzionale per massimo 4 persone. Ottima cucina e servizio bagno e lavanderia; ottima attrezzatura a disposizione per il mare (ombrellone, sedie). Buon parcheggio interno un pò stretto per auto grandi. Unico neo: poca ventilazione camere da letto in quanto poste in seminterrato, bagno piccolo.

2nd Stay!

Just like the first time we stayed at the yellow cottage, it was adorable! There are 4 of us staying, 2 adults and 2 teenagers And it fits us perfectly. The location is outstanding and it is a private, clean, cozy place to stay. My only negative comment is that it is probably time to change out the mattress for the queen size bed.
