Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Fully equipped beautifully furnished house, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Casa de Mira, is a new house, which incorporates the best of traditional Mexican architecture.

Its main entryway is through a huge antique doorway and portico with bovida ceiling and beautiful plantings. It is located on a quiet tree-lined street with no through traffic.

It is located in convenient Colonia San Antonio, just a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Jardin, which is at the heart of the historic Centro district.

It is a similar distance to the Instituto Allende, Belles Artes, Theatro Angela Peralta, the Biblioteca Publica (the English public library), the craft market and other places of interest.

There are excellent restaurants and markets within an easy five-minute walk from the casa.

The house is three story, with kitchen, dining room, living room, patio with fountain, half bath and garage on the first floor, two bedrooms and a study on the second floor, master bedroom, reading room and terrace on the third floor.

A large terrace with shaded wet bar with small refrigerator, garden furniture, charcoal grill, and beautiful plantings on the roof. All bedrooms have their own bathroom.

Both of the terraces, each with their own tables with umbrellas and chairs, have magnificent views over the city. The roof-garden terrace also has a chaise lounge and comfortable chairs for reading and relaxing.

The elevator is very convenient for bringing food and dishes from the kitchen to the terraces on a tea caddy bought for this purpose. It is a wonderful experience to be on either of the terraces as the sun is going down and watch the lights come on in San Miguel including the beautifully illuminated Parroquia and the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

The casa is fully equipped with two television sets, radio with CD Player, DVD, a computer (with high speed internet access) and printer, washing machine and dryer. The kitchen has a brand new microwave, toaster, toaster oven, blender, juicer, pressure cooker, food processor and everything else needed for making delicious meals.

The house is fully furnished with premium quality furniture and furnishings, and is decorated with paintings and other artwork by well-known artists, many of them local artists. The walls have been painted in typical traditional Mexican colors and the rugs have been made to order to match the colors of the house, its paintings and its furniture.

The rental includes maid service twice per week and all utilities.

About Mira Rathkopf

I was born in Oslo, Norway and came to New York to see what America was all about. I intended to return to Norway, but my cousin from Norway, who was an attorney in New York City, introduced me to Daren, another attorney in the same law firm, and a year later we got married. We have two daughters, one now living with her family next door to us and one living with her family five minutes from us. We have a total of four grandchildren. We have lived in Cold Spring Harbor, New York, for over 35 years. Until I had a family, I worked for Pan American. Daren, an attorney specializing in land use, is still working as a partner in a two lawyer law firm in Glen Cove, New York

Mira Rathkopf purchased this house in 2007

Why Mira Rathkopf chose San Miguel de Allende

Daren and I twice rented a house around the corner from our casa, and we loved it and San Miguel so much that we decided to buy a house of our own in the area. The weather is always so beautiful in San Miguel. This part of Colonia San Antonio is great, and we feel very safe. There is good food shoping and many fine restaurants right in the neighborhood. San Juan de Dios Market is less than a five minute walk from the casa. We have met a lot of Americas and Canadians in the area, and we also enjoy our many fine Mexican friends and neighbors.

What makes this house unique

Our house is decorated with beautiful Mexican colors and paintings by local artists. There is a fountain in the ground floor patio and a garden top floor terrace with wet bar where we enjoy evening drinks and most of our meals al fresco. The views from both the third floor terrace and the top floor terrace are magnificent. We bring our meals from the kitchen to the top terrace in our elevator. Our street, Calle Alameda, has no through traffic and is very quiet. It is an easy 10 to 15 minute walk from our casa to the Jardin, a garden plaza which is the center of communal life in San Miguel. Bands play there every night and people come to dance, stroll, sit on the benches and chat, or just observe the many people who gather to spend a pleasant evening.

Gorgeous, brilliantly decorated, colorful, cozy home!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Casa de Mira. The home is so brightly decorated with local art and there are so many areas to read, relax, etc. without being in anyone's way. The beds and bedding were heavenly- so comfortable and made for a great night's sleep. The kitchen was very well-stocked for cooking and staying in. The walk to the jardin only took about 10 minutes, and was pretty much a straight shot up Umaran- a little incline towards the end, but a good way to get the blood moving each morning! Abraham, the house manager, was very kind and attentive. The house was exceptionally clean and the rooftop terrace has beautiful vistas. Overall, our visit to Casa de Mira was fantastic. We'd return for sure!

Even Better Than Expected!

  • 5 of 5

We had a number of choices that looked terrific for a rental. My family liked the way Casa Mira looked the best. We all loved the home in person even more!! It has a relaxed and organized Mexican organized vibe. The art is really whimsical and fun. It was completely conducive for a serene vacation environment. It is a little outside of Centro which we all preferred. They celebrations in the city are fantastic but nicer from a little distance. The neighborhood is a nice mix of local residents and expats so we felt it was culturally interesting. Some streets close to the square seem a little too busy for our taste.

The walk to the square is short, maybe 12 minutes walking slowly. There is a nice pedestrian trail into town that we learned of. It is fantastic because it is almost flat. Walking was really part of the fun of this trip. We all loved exploring. On the way home we often grabbed a taxi which was too inexpensive to resist after a long day.

Casa Mira is a wonderful retreat after a busy day. There are a lot of special places to relax that you can only adequately appreciate when you arrive. The kids loved the computer and the loft area on their level. We loved our huge suite area complete with a sunroom and deck. I did some Spanish study in the sunroom where it was the coolest. The rooftop is a real joy to hang out on. We all took a few social media photo's from this spot. It was a real treat to wake up and head to the rooftop.

From a practical perspective the house is so well organized. I love the recycling bins in the garage that are marked clearly. It was easy to find anything we needed. Fresh clean water decanters are in every bathroom and in the kitchen. Don't hesitate to rent this home. You won't be disappointed!

We will be returning soon!!

Our stay for the month of February was marvelous! Everything important was perfect-----the location, the Casa itself beautiful, comfortable, roomy and well stocked with the essentials. Excellent beds, bedding, linens and the rooftop views stunning. And of course Lupe who kept everything shipshape for us. We would rent this home again---- in a heartbeat! Thank you Daren and Mira for such a great vacation. S & M

True to the character of San Miguel de Allende

  • 5 of 5

I spent my birthday with 2 friends from my Spanish class at the Casa de Mira and we had a wonderful week in the fabulously colorful house and city. The property is a real jewel, beautiful and very comfortable. It was easily accessible to walk to town, but wear really comfortable shoes as the charm of San Miguel de Allende is it's cobblestone streets! Of course, the elevator was a real plus!! Their neighbors, Vicente and his son Ernesto were happy to drive us to the Chapel of Jimmy Ray (a must see by artist Anado McLauchlin), and a day trip to Guanajuato. Lupe, their housekeeper, was very helpful also. It was such a marvelous week, with every expectation met and more, that I hope to return some day!
