Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

This light-filled house is on a level lot with a completely fenced back yard, with wooden deck, barbecue and lots of roses. The living-dining-kitchen area has peaked ceilings, an open floor plan and a wall of windows to the back yard and a gas stove-fireplace. There is another deck by the front door to catch the late afternoon sun.

Walk out the front door and turn west onto the quiet, virtually traffic-free dirt roads of the Bolinas' 'big mesa.' In two short blocks you are at the southern border of Pt. Reyes National Seashore -- a huge, grassy meadow leading from a horse ranch over the the bluffs above the Pacific (on a clear day you can see the Farallones). Or walk a few blocks south to overlook the surfers off Bolinas and Stinson Beach and to San Francisco and Devil's Slide further south, and then continue down the road to town and the beaches.

Charming Bolinas getaway

  • 4 of 5

The house was as advertised--light filled, comfortable and well equipped. The yard was filled with butterflies and hummingbirds. It was a charming 12 minute walk to Agate beach. We had super weather, however we were glad to have the gas stove on one gray day. The owners were responsive.

quiet and good value for our quick trip

  • 5 of 5

Property was clean and tidy, no frills, comfortable bed. Only suggestion is possible screens on slider, some flies got in the house. Maybe shades in the bedrooms as the sunshine was very bright in the morning.

Overall, very nice.

Nice, clean, sunny cottage near Point Reyes trails

  • 5 of 5

My family of four and our dog very much enjoyed staying at this cottage. It is a quick drive to the Alamere Falls trailhead, as well as other trailheads/beaches. One can walk to the bluffs and, a bit further, to Agate Beach county park. The house is very clean and comfortable, with a well-appointed kitchen. The yard is nicely landscaped and fenced.

light, airy, unpretentious

  • 4 of 5

if you know bolinas, you'll appreciate the rustic bumpy road to this home welcoming us with a garden and parking for two cars. the charming brick walkway is a bit lumpy but fun and eclectic. the dutch entry door is a surprise addition and when opened, we found an all white interior with large windows and a french door to a back yard deck and a colorful choice of plants with blooming roses, verbena and more, all providing a good space to relax. the neighborhood is quiet. the house is neat and tidy, the heat from the stove is quick after flipping the switch, and the fire is nice to see. the kitchen is a bit quirky but after a day, we understood its layout. there is not a lot of storage space if you're staying a length of time. the dishwasher is a plus. beds are comfortable, bath is adequate and clean, fluffy white towels on a bench greeted us. the only drawback was the lack of comfortable living room furniture, somewhere to nest and read a book. the sofa was new but very stiff; perhaps additional furniture is on its way. the vaulted wood ceiling is awesome. oh, the washer and dryer are great too! we'd come home from bo beach, unload our shells on the deck at the porch, fill a bucket and wash them, and set them out to dry. the gospel flat farmstand is THE BEST. a good time in bo. thank you!

Comfortable and charming home

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our four-night stay at this property very much. The house was pleasant, clean and inviting, with all the comforts of home. The backyard and home were both impeccably maintained, and the owners left clear instructions on how to operate appliances and care for the property. The house is located on a dirt road, but only a few houses in from the main paved road (Mesa). It is about a 20-minute walk to Agate Beach (at the end of Elm Street). The beach is lovely but small -- visit at low tide for a nice walk or to explore tidal pools. Take the stairs or trail up from the parking lot for a view from atop the bluff. The town of Bolinas is about 1.5 miles away from the house, and can be reached by the footpath along Mesa Road or a five-minute drive. In town, the Coast Café has an outdoor kiosk that sells coffee, tea, pastries, and some hot breakfast items every day from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. There are two markets in town, both well stocked enough that you don’t need to bring anything from home, unless you have certain brand preferences or dietary restrictions. The Bolinas Market (next to Coast Café) sells beer, wine, and made-to-order sandwiches, and the People’s Market has vegetarian and other special-diet items. Our stay was mostly a “working vacation,” so we did not venture beyond Bolinas, but we would not hesitate to rent this home again, especially as a base for exploring Point Reyes National Seashore and beyond.

Map

15 minute walk to town and beaches, two blocks from southern border of Pt. Reyes National Seashore with great hiking along the coast, quiet location in the sunny part of Bolinas mesa - great walking and biking on calm, rural dirt roads (3 houses off paved Mesa Road), close to Neiman Ranch, in the summer there are lots of blackberries nearby to pick for dessert.
