We loved it! We were greeted by an elk when we got there. Very cozy and clean. We loved the deck on the front and the deck on the back. We watched elk, wild horses, deer and the prettiest Blue Jays you have ever seen. I loved the convenience of the hot tub. I watched all of those animals while sitting in hot tub. Excellent hosts!

This charming wee hamlet and cabin tucked into a holler in the Upper Canyon was perfection! Tastefully appointed, fully stocked kitchen, comfortable, and yet convenient to everything you might want or need. A natural haven with wildlife of all varieties passing by to say "hey". We adored the entire experience and highly recommend this most lovely, well supplied cabin for a restful and delight-filled getaway. A solid ten out of ten

The front porch was our favorite spot! The elk come right up to the cabin. Due to the flooding and construction, the river is down. It is not located on the property regardless of the status of the river. Just wanted to make that clear for anyone expecting the river to be at the cabin. We really enjoyed our stay!

Yes, we get to enjoy the sights and sounds of the river while staying well above any danger. As you can guess, our cabin has never been flooded. We are very fortunate to be in the perfect spot to enjoy the privacy of the forest with the abundance of wildlife, and the river which they depend on. Everything about the stay was great. Cathi was easy to communicate with when we needed anything. She provides detailed instructions that are helpful to get to the cabin. She provided some great recommendations for food and fishing. This is the perfect place to getaway for a couple or even a small family.

Had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cabin! It was nicely tucked away from the busier area so most of our visitors were local birds and wild horses! Great location and quick responses if we ever had any questions!

Yes, even though I have seen the horses quite often, they never cease to excite me. They are gorgeous and healthy, and they have survived nature’s serious challenges. I am looking forward to this year’s foals to show up at the cabin. Seeing them greet the world is even more exciting! For more bird watching, you will want to come back this summer when the hummingbirds arrive. They are prolific and watching their antics becomes habit forming in a hurry. Wonderful stay for our anniversary. The host was very accommodating and responsive during slight snow storm just prior to our stay. Also had great suggestions for local restaurants. The cabin was very cozy and had everything we needed for our stay - located in a peaceful area just a few minutes drive to town. We also really enjoyed taking walks in the snow and seeing deer. We will definitely return to this property next time we visit Ruidoso.

The snow is a special touch that just adds to the natural beauty of the area. In the cool summer, I enjoy walking into town when it’s too hot to walk in Texas. Nice place. It's clean and well organized and has all you should need for 4 people (plates and cups to cooking utensils). I loved the hot-tub, pretty secluded from street and neighbors. There is a hill behind and down one side of the property and a tree beside the house next door so it is pretty secluded. It sits a ways off the road and it's not very busy so the screened in porch on the front is a nice relaxing place. The only slight ding I would give the rating is the AC. It was in the upper 90's when we were there, unusually hot weather, and the split unit in the bedroom couldn't keep it below 78 in the living room for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Not a huge problem as it cooled right down by late afternoon and the bedroom was always cool.

It’s true…temps in the 90’s are rare. Fortunately, the nights remain cool. Most locals don’t have A/C since it’s rarely needed. The cool nights and abundant windows cool the interior, then the trick is to shut the windows in the warm part of the day to keep the coolness inside…then repeat. Our cabin didn’t have A/C until we purchased the property and added the mini-split. I am happy you enjoyed the privacy and peaceful nature of the cabin. We think it’s pretty special indeed. Cabin was clean and comfortable. Everything we needed was provided. Loved the enclosed porch and all the outdoor seating options. Got to see deer and wild horses, and the vibe was relaxed and laid back.Would absolutely recommend to anyone wanting a quiet getaway.

What a relaxing stay to start the New Year. From the perfect hot tub wolf moon views, to the perfect fireplace and recliners, to early morning visitors with deer and turkey. Are stay was so amazing. Cathy was easy to reach and accommodated us openly with no issues.

Quiet and very peaceful. Enjoyed seeing the deer everyday when out walking. Devastating to see the destruction caused by fire and flooding, but Ruidoso is still such a beautiful and welcoming little town.

Yes, the fire and floods definitely took a toll in the village. We were blessed to escape the destruction and are grateful to retain our peaceful sanctuary. We are Ron and Cathi Chambers. Cathi was born in New Mexico and her heart never left, so owning a place in the ‘Land of Enchantment’ comes full circle. We searched four states from North Carolina to New Mexico to find a mountain home for retirement, but the trip to Ruidoso ended our search. The heavily treed mountains and cool mountain air, the rivers and lakes, the quaint town with nearby places of interest hit all of our “must haves” and more. Once we found this tranquil cabin in Upper Canyon, we knew we had found the perfect mountain retreat.
The cabin needed attention, but that’s our specialty. Eagerly we jumped in to remodel this gem to its full potential. The kitchen is all new, as is the electrical, plumbing, gas logs, washer/dryer, hot tub, redwood decking, and energy efficient windows. The original charm of the cabin remains with warm wood trim throughout and nature right at the doorstep. It’s a great package, and the location can’t be beat. The property is a natural path for wildlife as they come to take a drink in the Ruidoso River and travel back to their home in the forest (the cabin backs up to the forest). Nights at the cabin bring crisp mountain air and bright shining stars.
We suggest bringing the young ones with you. Our grandsons absolutely love this property. They don’t even ask for electronics and rarely turn on the TV. There is just too much to see and do that’s new and exciting. One bonus this year included watching the progress of two sets of “Bambi” twins as they lost their spots and matured to young deer.

The Upper Canyon has been the preferred vacation spot since the early days of Ruidoso. When we found the little cabin’ that looked down on the river and blended seamlessly with the forest, we knew we had found gold. The cabin just needed a refresh to be the jewel it is today. Even now after the fires and floods, the neighborhood is whole and green, and beautiful. It’s a blessing for sure.
