About this property

Annie's Cottage, Quiet Getaway, Peaceful Waterfall

This 1908 cottage, rebuilt in 2005 after fire destroyed the top floor, is a cozy getaway nestled in the coastal town where Annie's grandfather was, long ago, the Mayor and mill worker on the bay. It's the perfect spot for the family vacation, writer's/artist's hangout or business trip.

From Annie's Cottage, the beach is as close as a few blocks or a short drive to the active fishing village of Charleston and the business meeting is less than a 15 minute drive no matter which direction you go in Coos Bay or North Bend, yet you have the feeling the moment you step out of the car and stroll up the stone path and hear the soothing sound of the water fall, that all the tensions of your active every day life are just no where to be found.

A day playing in the sand dunes or at the beach or taking a hike along the coast is perfectly ended by a soak in the jacuzzi tub and then lean back in the recliner overlooking the bay to watch the sunset and the occasional ship go by. Our non commercial, relaxing, authentic little town will invite you back again and again to forget there ever was a freeway, a long line to stand in or a phone ringing off the hook.

About the host

Hosted by Annie Comfort

Host profile image
Paul and Annie Comfort share a love for this little, authentic coastal community. Each have deep roots in the community and have participated in local theater and music. Paul bought the home that is now Annie's Cottage over 20 years ago with hopes of entertaining friends there. A bachelor for many years, he was a customer of Annie's when she was a sales clerk in the 1970's & 80's at a local Radio Shack. He worked in marine electronics in the nearby fishing village of Charleston and later was the technical director at a local theater. Annie moved away after college and, after the death of her first husband, returned to Coos Bay where they met again and fell in love after working on a music project together. After fire destroyed the top floor of the Cottage, they were wed and rebuilt the Cottage in 2004 with the dream of sharing it with people just like them who just need a peaceful getaway from time to time.

Why they chose this property

We've always loved the Oregon coast, and the Coos Bay area is full of unspoiled beauty. The non-commercialized beaches, dunes and forests are exquisite. The air is fresh and clean, and the temperatures are always moderate.

What makes this property unique

From the minute you begin your walk up the path to the front door, there is a peace about the Cottage. It is a resting place, a place to truly kick back and take it easy. From the easy chairs overlooking the bay on the top floor, you can watch ships and fishing boats and an occasional barge go by. Once in awhile a tall ship can be seen, such as the Lady Washington. Whether it's sitting on the rocks of the waterfall in the front yard and watching the neighborhood birds play in the water or relaxing in the jacuzzi tub upstairs, it is a true getaway, a destination.
