Usually guests are contacted a little earlier re booklet house bond rules etc. As it was an extremely busy time ,your details were somehow overlooked and therefore were prompty sent once that was discovered! On a very rare occasion,with enquiries and confirmed bookings coming in from various sources especially at the most sought after time of the calendar, no matter how much checking and crosschecking is undertaken & believe me, I do this...sometimes a vacating date and an entry date for new guests might be at odds or confusing, or the booking sites get the dates wrong or haven't updated them correctly. Human error occurs in every facet of life in private and inbusiness ventures! The alternative, when new guests arrive and the 'in house guests aren't due to leave til the following day,' is a situation I would not want to ever happen or worse, a double booking would be horrendous, so constant cross checking is the way forward and much contact by owner and guest by all media means is frequent and vital. In the situation above, a final cross check showed up a discrepancy and so immediately, both the 'in house guests' booked to staying before the next incoming guests are due are contacted. As well the new incoming guest group is contacted to work out a resolution or compromise. This was done satisfactorily in plenty of time on this rare situation that arose. Temporary alternative accommodation arranged by the owner for one night,, might prove to be a last resort if necessary . It would still ensure that guests get their holiday time. In other situations, alternative dates could be agreed upon or a night held in credit for another time could also be a option. There's always a way! Whatever the situation, the owner would ensure his top priority is that guests are suitably catered for and looked after at all times! After nearly forty years in this business, the record is nothing short of excellent in regard to host hospitality and efficiency at not one, but several holiday accommodation venues owned and managed by the owner!

It would be good if any of the above was fact.! A very rare overlap caused by a discrepancy between available dates in regard to vrbo calendar bookings & owners was discovered & Immediately, the guests were phd & suitable alternative arrangements were put in place [a near impossible task at that high peak date 2 Jan] & these were made for just the 1st night of a 4 night stay by the guests. The other 3 nights were still booked at the Lodge starting from 12 noon on 3 Jan for the remainder of the guests booking. The other accommodation that the lodge owner swiftly & diplomatically managed to arrange at high noon time! were not one, but 2 fully self contained 2 bedroom units situated on a working farm in what used to be a fully operational motor camp. Only because the owner knew the owners well , was this able to become a reality. The units were immediately cleaned & equipped ready with all linen towels provided. These are situated about two minutes easy stroll from the Lodge & are also close to the beach front & to make it even easier, the owner arranged for all linen to b provided for that night[sheets pillowslips, towels, tea towels] where at the Lodge, it works on a Guests BYO linen basis . By having the first night fully set up like this, meant that the guests did not to provide & make beds up for their 1st nights stay so that they could use their own linen at the lodge for the next 3 nights . Being a working farm as well as a place of private only accommodation ,the guests dog was not included for that one night there. But wait! Above & beyond the call of duty, the owner arranged for a known dog carer & good friend/ neighbour across the road from the Lodge to take special care for the guest's dog for that 1 only evening in a caring & secure setting...the dog would have no doubt been spoiled & taken for a walk or swim along the beach that evening and likely the next morning as well! The guests could have easily strolled the 2 mins round after 10. 30 am next day & collected their dog & enjoyed him until they were able to book into the Lodge by about 11.30/ 12 noon for the duration of the 4 night stay at Purau. Due to Unreasonableness, non flexibility & a total lack of any appreciation by the guests in this very rare situation & despite the fact that the owner offered alternative dates at the venue & a full refund of 1 nights stay, the guests decided to cancel their 4 night stay. 4 nights were provided ..owner had fulfilled the booking.

Regarding guests comments In essence, its essential that ALL guests especially those from out of NZ in this case,, U.S, take time to read thru the comprehensive & concise house rules & all important information set out so clearly in the 4 page booklet & attachments they receive by email well in advance of their stay & the many [as they referred to,] communications by ph & messages geared to assist in every possible way to ensure their stay is completely trouble free,all queries are answered & above all, that their stay is a comfortable & enjoyable one. This is time consuming for the owner ,but as can be seen .in the U.S guests stay, very necessary! Even with all that effort, when guests fail to take heed or understand how the vast majority of NZ private holiday homes are organised & run & what is perfectly familiar to NZ & Aussie guests, they might find to be different & foreign to their experience, they are liable to find things are not quite what they were expecting. The old adage..U can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink! rings true her The owner is also 24 /7 available to speak[no queue waiting ,electronic replies, or answer phone message...all Live!!! by phonetext /email to offer any help, advice & to answer any query guests may have. 99% of the queries received by the owner of many years in this business have already been discussed with guests prior & answered or are laid out clearly in the booklet & attachments all Guests receive in advance PS The 'blankets' referred to on couches etc are actually new & expensive furniture 'throws' designed for that purpose to enhance the comfortable homely, unique or quaint look of the living areas . [Obviously these are not part of the U.S decor scene!] It is purposefully made to look as the guests described.. Rustic.. as the lodge is situated on the waterfront of a very rural country-like, historic bay, no street lights etc Making own beds up on arrival with own or hired linen is very common at many nz holiday homes & once again is fully explained on the Booking sites where properties are advertised & also in the 4 page booklet checklists of what to take & what to do arrival & before guests vacate.. & by phone, so really there is no excuse for not knowing this information. Disappointing after so much effort & time & advice by owner, even meeting the guests in person in chch beforehand & presenting them with a welcoming bottle of wine! Holiday in your own country you guys!!
