About Christine Barker
I've enjoyed a diversified life with careers in Environmental science (which I studied), entertainment, real estate and design. I live in New York but grew up in Canada and Bermuda, two wildly different climes! When it comes to property I tend to prefer the extremes....extreme country, or extreme city, and that's one of the things I love about Woodstock. It's less than two hours from New York City, but it's a million miles away with respect to it's ambiance, culture and attitude. Woodstock is a fabulous combination of getting away from it all while still having plenty to do.
Christine Barker purchased this Chalet in 2002
Why Christine Barker chose Woodstock
It is a well built classic Woodstock home with amazing woodwork, great angles, and many interesting details. I fell in love with it the moment I walked through the door! It's very private and set back in the woods, but it's minutes to the center of town. Stained glass windows everywhere. It's the perfect mountain home and I love to escape there whenever I can...and I love to see others create wonderful memories there as well!
What makes this Chalet unique
As one of the oldest arts colonies and one of the most culturally rich small towns in America, Woodstock is also situated in one of the most protected and dramatic wildlife areas in the Northeast. No matter what you seek: culinary excellence, culture, summer concerts, adventure, hiking at its best!!! It all awaits you right here. Our home is just a few minutes away from all the amenities and attractions of downtown Woodstock but secluded enough to truly feel like you are in your own private retreat.

Great place. Beautiful space.
Had a really good time here with a group of friends. The property is a great size and the layout is good for coming together but with space for privacy as well.
Spacious and welcoming!!
A reunion of college roommates and this was the perfect space and location... We loved it!
Beautiful home as expected but bring fly swatter
This is a beautiful home only a short drive to town. We were there for the weekend in October and only had one large complaint - there were an gross amount of flys in the bedrooms. They had a fly swatter and we killed the 20 or so in the bedrooms but the next morning twice as many appeared. For me this was not something I could handle and if it had been a longer stay we would have left.
The outside area was quite - hot tub perfect - and plenty of room for the the older kids to run around. Overall a beautiful home worth 5 stars but the infestation was more than I could handle. The stairs were harder to manage as we were all wearing socks so bring something with tread for inside. One bathroom on each level (three) and a very large table.
Hi Justin, I am so sorry to hear you were dissatisfied with your stay, and am extremely surprised as I was contacted by you twice over the course of your stay, and you made no mention of flies either time. In the emails below, you even asked to extend your check out time. We are entirely available during our guests' stay, and have a team on hand to address any issues. Our reviews consistently cite our responsiveness as a plus (again noted in your email below).
While flies are unpleasant, this does not equate to the home being sub par, or to our services lacking. As you say, this is a 5 star house, but you experienced a one off situation. This is our first ever 3 star review, we have 5 star reviews from guests that stayed before & after you. I emphasize this only because I believe guests don’t realize how devastating a three star review can be to bookings, and we emphasize customer satisfaction to earn our five star reviews.
I think it’s worth noting that fall was exceptionally warm this year, prompting some unusual consequences including temporary upswings in some insect populations (population bursts can also be part of a species' life cycle). I checked the house thoroughly prior to your arrival, which means flies must have entered the house over the weekend, possibly from a door or window left ajar and/or food being left out. Again, I am very sorry your stay was less than ideal. I hope that if you stay with us in the future you communicate any dissatisfaction and allow us an opportunity to remedy it.

Thank you for the quick reply. Is there a fire pit that we can use to have a fire outside?

Thank you very much! Would it be possible to stay a little longer than 11am on Sunday? Thank you very much
Perfect spot for our large group!
Overall, this was a perfect spot for a large group looking for a place to land together after a long day at the horse show! Every thing was just as described :)
Perfect house for a girlfriend getaway
This house is so unique, rustic, open and inviting. The common spaces from the kitchen to the living room with the fireplace and the deck and outdoor space are designed for spending time with people. My girlfriends and I enjoyed everything about this home so much so that it's been requested me make it back for an annual trip every year. Hoping to enjoy this space again and so appreciative for the accommodating hosts and the space overall.
Great Bachelorette/Group Getaway
I rented the chalet for the weekend for a group of 12 for my best friend's bachelorette. We loved how cute and cozy the house was - the artistic touches and details really make it home. The kitchens are well equipped and there is ample storage for everything you might need to bring to the home. Towels/linens were clean and the beds were comfy. It was a bit difficult to heat the downstairs area that led out to the patio with the hot tub, but otherwise our stay was seamless. The owners are attentive to detail and make it easy for you to be comfortable. I would work with them/stay at this property again.
This is a year round paradise! In summer enjoy water tubing or fly fishing on the Esopus, canoeing and Kayaking on the Hudson River, horseback riding, rock climbing, tennis, golf and bike around a beautiful reservoir. Visit the largest traditional Tibetan Monastery in the US, climb the beautiful Overlook Mountain or take a dip in one of the numerous water holes in the area. The fall is absolutely gorgeous, and the Woodstock Film Festival always attracts a crowd. This is also a great time to enjoy apple picking, pumpkin carving and the wonderful foliage of the Catskills Mountains. The winter offers plenty...Hunter Mountain is a skiers' paradise. Bellayre, Windham Mountain or Plattekill are also nearby. There's great sledding right in town on the aptly named Sled Hill. The iconic Town of Woodstock comes alive with lights over the holidays and is very picturesque. The areas beautiful lakes, mountains, rivers, restaurants, shopping and cultural scene provide plenty to do whatever time of the year you visit, but you may just want to stay at your beautiful rental home and relax by the fire or take a soak in the hot tub!
