One of the things people love about this part of Goolwa is how easy it is to slow down without feeling cut off from everything.

The bike trail runs right past the house, connecting you through to Middleton, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor... an easy, scenic ride where you’re not rushing, just taking it all in as you go.

If you enjoy a round of golf, South Lakes Golf Club is just a 2-minute drive away, making it easy to head out for a relaxed morning game before the day unfolds. Right alongside it, SHANX Mini Golf is perfect for kids (or anyone feeling a bit competitive).



Mornings might start with a short walk along the river into town for coffee at Hector’s Café, followed by a wander around the Goolwa Wharf precinct - Signal Point Gallery, Fleurieu Distillery, and the Sunday markets are always worth a visit.

Bombora Café is also a favourite for breakfast and is within walking distance (you can even see it from the balcony).

For something more relaxed, Hays Street Bar & Kitchen is a great lunch spot, Thai Days is perfect for an easy dinner, or you can keep things simple with fish and chips by the water from Cadell Street Fish & Chips.

If the beach is calling, it’s a quick 4-minute drive away. Known for its surf, cockles, and wide-open coastline, it’s the kind of place where you can spend the whole day in the fresh air, then come back to somewhere that feels noticeably quieter. Kuti Shack is a great option for a long, relaxed lunch overlooking the ocean.

If you’re travelling with little people, the Bristow Smith Reserve Nature Playspace is a favourite. It’s just a short stroll along the river and one of those places where kids can play for hours while the adults get a moment to sit and enjoy the view.

Many guests bring bikes, paddleboards or kayaks to make the most of the area. Others do very little at all… and that works just as well here.

It’s that balance that makes it special. You can fill your day if you want to, or sit, look out over the river, and let the day pass without needing to be anywhere.

Winter here has its own charm. The pace slows, the air feels fresh, and you still feel connected to the river even from inside.

If you feel like getting out, the historic Cockle Train is always a favourite, winding its way along the coastline towards Victor Harbor, with the option to stop in at Port Elliot along the way.

A short drive will also take you to Currency Creek or Langhorne Creek, where you’ll find a cluster of local wineries for a relaxed afternoon out.
