About this property

Sunday School Timeless North Hobart Luxury

Set within a beautifully restored 1928 church hall, this refined North Hobart retreat blends heritage charm with elegant contemporary comfort. Timber floors, dimmable lighting and a glowing fire shape relaxed evenings, while mornings move easily from the kitchen's granite island to the private, leafy courtyard. Just moments from Elizabeth Street’s celebrated dining strip, yet tucked in a quiet no-through road, it’s a distinctive stay that balances history with modern ease.
Originally built in 1928 as a Sunday School and later a dance studio, this character-filled hall has been thoughtfully reimagined into a sophisticated open-plan retreat where history and comfort sit side by side. High ceilings and warm timber floors set the tone, with deep-pile hemp, wool and hide rugs and soft lighting throughout, creating an intimate mood from morning through to evening.

The expansive main hall houses a generous lounge area, inviting you to settle in by the gas log fire, with split-system heating and cooling and an additional Dyson unit ensuring year-round comfort. A dining table anchors the space for long, shared meals, while a dedicated desk offers a quiet corner for work or reflection.

The kitchen is fully equipped for relaxed self-catering, centred around a granite-topped island bench ideal for casual breakfasts or evening wine. Quality appliances, ample cookware and thoughtful extras make preparing meals effortless.

Open-air sleeping is arranged beneath the same soaring ceiling. A queen bed is screened by a double-sided bookcase for gentle separation, while two long single beds sit nearby; with advance notice, these can be combined to form a king. Please note that the open-plan nature means there is no full sound separation between sleeping and living areas.

Step outside to your private courtyard, where a table and chairs provide a sunny spot for coffee or a nightcap. A second intimate outdoor setting sits just beyond the queen bed, offering a charming place to chat across the threshold. Guests are also welcome to enjoy the larger deck and garden with gazebo, BBQ and pizza oven between the hall and the adjacent former church; this area may be shared with the owner.

The bathroom features a deep freestanding bath, walk-in shower, overhead heating and heated towel rail, complemented by a separate powder room with integrated laundry.

A private entry hall, street parking nearby and self-check-in complete the experience.
During your stay, you and your group will have the entire cottage to yourselves. You’re welcome to unwind on the larger deck and garden with gazebo, BBQ and pizza oven between the hall and the former church; this area may be shared with the host. Please make yourselves at home!

You’re just a two-minute stroll from North Hobart’s famed Elizabeth Street dining strip, lined with cafés, bars and restaurants spanning global cuisines. Catch a film at the iconic State Cinema, only a short walk away, or browse nearby galleries and gourmet grocers. The CBD and waterfront are an easy 15-minute flat walk, or a quick taxi ride. Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is around 15 minutes by car, though the ferry along the River Derwent makes the journey part of the adventure. Despite the vibrant surrounds, this quiet no-through street remains calm, with convenient free street parking typically available nearby.

Due to local regulations, we can happily host you for up to 90 nights. Any bookings that exceed this duration will be cancelled by Vrbo.
