Serenely Private Aerie
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this private aerie overlooking the ocean. Sounds of birds, frogs and other critters provided a soundtrack while viewing the lush carpet of fruit trees and colorful, wild plants sloping down to the coast below.

The captain’s suite
We had a wonderful stay in the captain’s suite. Nancy and Greg were excellent hosts. The suite is as exactly as advertised and the view is amazing. We spent many relaxing hours on the lanai. Many thanks.
Invasion of privacy
Without authorization or notification Greg entered the unit while we were gone for the day to fix some drawers. We were unaware of any drawers that needed fixing. While he was in the unit, he took it upon himself to handle our personal possessions, including our underwear, and remake the bed since he noticed that we had removed the plastic mattress protector from the bed. He left us a typed and signed letter notifying us of this transgression, in his opinion. We removed the mattress cover because we have, unfortunately, had other experiences at other rentals in humid climates where sleeping on plastic covers made the bed extremely sweaty, hot, and uncomfortable to sleep on. His decision to enter the property without notification made us feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, and as though we were being watched. If all of this seems ok to you and you would still be comfortable staying renting this property, the view, the loungers, and the beach supplies are great!
It’s our policy and practice to give our guests maximin privacy. My wife and I entered the unit on this occasion to take photos of the damage to the kitchen drawers and estimate the repair cost for the accident occurring a week earlier with the prior guests who left the day of your arrival. We’ve only had to hold part of one other damage deposit, so we know we have a narrow window to process a claim and return a deposit.
We provide a high end, very comfortable mattress and keep it clean with a mattress protector and pad for comfort, to ensure good hygiene for everyone, respecting not only current guests but future guests as well. Occasionally the housekeeper will need to give the sheets and mattress pad special cleaning, besides normal laundry, to remove bodily fluid stains. Neither you nor we want to sleep on a stained/dirty mattress, therefore we insisted on keeping the mattress protector in place and put it back on the bed, not knowing how late it could be when you would return. We left a note to that effect, asking why you felt it was necessary to remove it in the first place. If there is a problem, we want our guest to bring it to our attention so we can do everything possible to address the issue. We did not hear from you before you removed the protective pads or after. We only moved two items from the bed to the cedar chest so we could put the protection back on the bed, otherwise we never handle our guest belongings.
We’ve been providing quality guest hospitality for 20 years. We very much enjoy sharing this beautiful property with our guests and we're sorry you found the situation uncomfortable.

Awesome spot in a slice of Paradise!
Nancy and Greg are great hosts. They provide everything you'll need for a great stay on the Big Island plus, the location is ideal (at elevation away from all the touristy crud in Kailua-Kona). And if you are a runner, the daily workout of running up Coffee Drive is a major bonus!
Renowned Kealakekua Bay and Place of Refuge National Park are just below this unique property. A short 12 min. drive will put you at the waters edge. Kayak over the the Captain Cook monument, have lunch and snorkel along the coast line for unbelievable views of beautiful fish, eels, turtles and frolicking dolphins if your lucky.
Visit a coffee farm, botanical garden and have dinner at the renowned Keei Cafe.
We moved to the Big Island in 1987 with Greg's work and built our home here in Captain Cook in1988. Planning for retirement we added square footage for the vacation rental in 1998 with creative design features and later expanded the footprint of the house and added solar power and water. The whole process has been a fun and gratifying creative experience and we love sharing this property with our guests . You will enjoy the large stand of bamboo on the property, which is a focal point in the design of the unit which has its own BBQ area close to its individual private parking and entry. We've received much enjoyment providing hospitality to many seasoned travelers over the years and have many repeat guests that we consider friends. That said we give our guest all the privacy they desire. The honor system has worked well over the years and some guests have checked in with the key code and checked out without us meeting them because of the layout of the property. We provide excellent accommodations at a very good price for our guest who appreciate it and take good care of the property, leaving it as good as they find it. "Peaberry" is our 9 years old dog, a black lab looking, mix and Mr. Mow, our 16-year-old Siamese cat.

Over the years we’ve established this property to not only share the great ocean and wide coastal views and the very pleasing accommodations but our guests also enjoy the lush tropical environment with a wide verity of flowers, plants and trees that we’ve planted on the property over the years. Be sure to check out the Historic Living Coffee Farm exhibit just down the road and the Amy Greenwell Botanical Gardens nearby and for old time flavor also see Manago Hotel and Tashima’s Restaurant both here since the early 1900’s. The Kona Historical Museum is also close by and well worth visiting. Many will want to see the two historic church's in the area and of course, you’ll want to visit the Farmers Green Market in Captain Cook on Sundays. We also offer our lending library while your here with books about Hawaiian Culture and History if your interested.
What makes this Apartment unique
It's only a 15 min. drive to Keauhou Shopping Center where you'll find restaurants, grocery store, shops and movie theater. Another 10 min. and you are in Kailua-Kona. Also only about 12 min. down to Two Step for snorkeling and kayaking. See active coffee farms and a must visit is the Japanese historic living coffee farm. Numerous very good restaurants here in the area as well as fresh fish at the local market and the fish market. Sundays is the local outdoor market just down the road, where you'll find fresh vegetables and fruits.
