Great little cottage
We loved our stay here. It’s small, but we were able to bring our two German shepherds with us and we managed just fine in this space. Very clean and cozy. Would definitely stay here again!
Suggestions for Improvement
Kelley’s Cottage is correctly priced for what it is...a humble cottage which has seen better days, located conveniently out of the cruise ship chaos of Bar Harbor. It has foundation issues that manifest in a decided slope of floors and countertops. It’s uphill to the bathroom, as I recall. Although it is perhaps not practical to change that, our suggestions to the owner for how to make minor, inexpensive improvements to benefit the guests are as follows:
1. Buy new bed linens at Costco with higher thread count, and add a lightweight down comforter.
2. Buy new towels at Costco.com, thicker, softer and with more absorbency.
3. The bed squeaks and creaks when you change position, waking your bedmate up...look into how to solve that problem.
4. Provide a cutting board among the kitchen items.
We needed to do laundry during our stay, and the dryer was broken, waiting on a part. So we had to use the local washateria in Bar Harbor. That errand took away time from our planned activities.
The summary is that we enjoyed our time there. It made a fine headquarters for visiting Acadia, and we got what we paid for. This is not a luxury property.
We are aware of the slope in the cottage floor and already have a carpenter scheduled to correct that at the end of the season. I buy new sheets every year. There is no Costco near here so I buy them on line. I also provide a nice light weight down blanket for between the sheet and outer quilt. No-one has ever mentioned that the towels were a problem or that the bed squeaks but I will look into it. There has always been a cutting board in the cottage so I don't have an explanation but did notice a new cutting board was there late in the season. The dryer part was on back order for weeks before it was discovered that the technician had ordered one in bisque instead of white. The part arrived the following day and was installed.
Simple place for adventures
Overall great experience. Weather was very nice in September. Was pretty close to Bar harbor and not difficult to find. Cozy cottage with a nice breeze.
First Visit To Maine
Our stay was great for our first visit to Maine and Acadia. The convenient location of the property helped us do so much more because we were so close. We enjoyed several evenings grilling and sitting on the deck. The space is perfect for about 2 people and being able to bring our little dog was wonderful.
Very nice cottage.
We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was very nice and convenient to Acadia NP. Only a few miles from Bar Harbor. The price was reasonable and it worked out great for us hikers!
From the Parkadia Exxon station at the head of the island follow Rt 3 for 4 1/4 miles to Salisbury Cove. The Old Bar Harbor Road is on the left and has a sign for the Biological Lab with a shark on it. My property is just after the Eden Baptist Church Parish Hall.
