We bought The Cedars house to make it a home for ourselves and you, our guests. We visit to play and relax and hope you do too. WELCOME!
The home was built in 1913 by the manager of the silver mine up the street. At the time it was one of the nicest luxury homes in Kellogg. Complete with leaded glass windows, leaded glass china cabinet in the dining room, 9’ ceilings, and 1913 vintage chandeliers. It was huge by the standards of the day. We have fully remodeled it, (except for the laundry room) preserving the vintage features but outfitting it with modern appliances. It’s now a 2677 square foot vacation rental that sits on a third acre corner lot which is a perfect place to porch sit and watch people go by. The house has a very warm feel to it. It's ideal for family get-together’s and friends who come as a group to get away from the rat race. It has very large rooms that are beautifully decorated. It has tile and hardwood floors and a tile shower with double shower heads. Luxury living at a very reasonable price.
We use the house as a base for adventures to all the exciting places to visit and things to do. We river raft, ski, board, swim, fish, bike, hike, explore old mine ruins, pick huckleberries, eat and eat some more, and visit friends we've made. Silver Mountain Resort virtually always has activities going on. They have live bands, sporting competitions on the mountain (skiing, riding, biking, frisbee throwing) and in their pool surfing. They host music events, charity events, local events, etc. We provide an 8 page directory of things to do within 50 miles of Kellogg both via email and printed and in the house. This is the fun capital of N Idaho.

This valley, Silver Valley, is an amazing combination of 2010 and 1900 characteristics. You can eat steak at a restaurant built in 1892 and still looks like it did when it was built, a cow bell hanging over the door announces you as you enter. On the way back to 'The Cedars', stop at Silver Mountain Resort and have a Mint Mojito while visiting with people from Europe. You can walk underground into a silver/gold mine and see actual Silver and Gold veins as well as the actual implements used in 1920 to mine the ore. Walk back above ground and visit the Bordello Museum on your way to having a Huckleberry beer at a local brewery in town. You can hike or bike anywhere in the world but only here can you do it along a trail with historical markers indicating a cave where 40 miners hid when a raging wild fire that darkened the sky all the way to Europe, passed overhead. America doesn't have much history, especially out west. But Kellogg (Silver Valley) has what’s available and it is still alive and visible for all to enjoy.
Our friends and family enjoyed this beautiful home! All of the rooms were big, definitely providing plenty of space for kids and adults. The kitchen had all the amenities, and the table in the dining room was easily big enough for all of us. The two bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs, were perfect. The big windows provide plenty of natural light, which I love. The boys enjoyed the fooseball table upstairs and playing in the fenced yard, or walking to town to get some candy. They also liked the wi-if later in the evening. The beds and furniture were very comfortable. We all enjoyed sitting on the big front porch, with the great mountain view.
I had made a mistake when I booked so I had to talk to Clint a couple of times and text with him. He is super nice, and I could tell it was important to him that we enjoyed our stay. He even checked in with me after our stay! We will be going back to Kellog next year, and we will be staying here!
This definitely is an old historic? house. The downstairs was basically as stated but upstairs, has an old decrepid bathroom, broken blinds in all rooms and NO heat!
The heat had to be constantly over 74 downstairs to get any warmth in upstairs bedrooms! Finally found some space heaters but with children around they couldn't be on for any length of time! Fear of fire hazard!
Fire extinguisher in kitchen was a spray can on shelf above stove, out of reach for anyone under 5'2"!!!
To lock house you must do interior locks on kitchen (nearest to car) then go to front and lock and run around the house in rain to get to car!
Lack of extra blankets!
Biggest issue was I never did receive WiFi password! Had to finally go to resort buy a cup of tea to get wifi for student who needed to use and workerbee who had a deadline to meet!!
Cost was high, as we later found a nice motel in Wallace( few miles nearer Lookout Pass Ski) which provided breakfast and 2 lift passes for less!!!
Kellogg is a dying town, sad. Silver Mtn water park is closed unless a guest at resort, which was our misunderstanding and that is only reason we were there! Not going back nor recommending.
Renter beware! Nice and plentiful towels in bathroom do not make up for lack of heat and no wifi password!
With my husband's 70th birthday just before Columbus Day weekend and sons and their families in Portland, OR and Missoula, MT we were looking for a family friendly VRBO--this property was PERFECT. We own a VRBO in Missoula and know what makes tenants happy--we were very happy with this property. The downstairs bedroom with a queen size bed is spacious, had more storage than we needed and had privacy to the downstairs full bath. All the rooms were spacious (except for the upstairs bathroom) and everyone had room to spread out. There are actually four bedrooms including what is described as the "kids' room". The upstairs had three bedrooms and a full bath--tub only, no shower--and an angled ceiling that made it more friendly for kids than adults. One of the queen size bedrooms has a Foosball table and a door that opens into the kids' room. The kids' room has a queen bed and two twins, which would accommodate a family with small children. There is also a very large king size bedroom on the second floor. Grampy and I were downstairs and all the kids and grandkids were upstairs. There is internet access but no cable or satellite TV. We spent one day at the water park (five minutes away at Silver Mountain) and biked the next day on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes. Bikes are no longer provided with the rental and we brought bikes with us. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped. There is a washer/dryer in a large laundry room on the first floor. All in all this is a perfect family venue--games, CD's, DVD's and close to Silver Mountain. Highly recommend this VRBO. Look forward to renting again in ski season.
The house was clean and well stocked in the bathroom/kitchen/bedroom departments. The only real bummer was there was no key for the garage where the bikes were stored so the kids were bummed about no bikes to ride. The town of Kellogg was great, except for the bar down the street, In Cahoots, that was quite an experience. Silver mountain was really fun for us too, being avid mountain bikers. We would likely go back for another long weekend sometime.
This was my first time to Kellogg and wallace area. This home is centrally located for sightseeing, shopping etc. The home is perfect for families with children seeing as the yard is completely fenced in. The only downfall for us was the house had no air conditioning and the average temps were in the mid 90's. Other than that the home was great.
This was a great rental to hold a lot of people. The boys really liked the foosball table and games that they had in the closet. Our families all got together to go ride the Hiawatha Trail. It took less than 45 minutes to get to the trail head from the house. This is a beautiful area to travel to and explore.
The main attraction in the summer is Biking, Fishing and ATV - 4 Wheeling. The Hiawatha Trail for biking is incredible with 8 tunnels and 7 trestles running through the mountains. The main attraction in the winter is Skiing, Snowboarding, and Snowmobiling. We bought the house because we love skiing and snowboarding at Silver Mountain Resort and Lookout Pass. The Coeur d' lane and St Joe rivers offer fishing, whitewater rafting and boating. We've done all 3 activities on these 2 beautiful rivers. There are 3 Golf courses within 10 miles and several more in Coeur d' lane. Of the 3 courses nearby, 2 are 'mountain' courses. On these courses, if the animals on the fairway are over 300lbs you let them play through. The Silver Mountain Resort has a water park and there is another one about an hour away. The mines offer tours and nearby Wallace (10 mi) is a historical preservation town.
