Overview

About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Marilyn and I invite you to visit our favorite place, our luxury oceanfront home-away-from-home at George Town Villas. This 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo is located near the south end of Seven Mile Beach. It boasts spectacular views, the privacy of a third floor unit and comfortable amenities. A covered patio with balcony overlooks the ocean, George Town Harbor, beach, pool and gardens.

George Town Villas offers convenience to George Town, without the noise or tourist traffic, being set off from the main traffic arteries on aptly named 'Snooze Lane'. Several fine restaurants including 'The Wharf' are within a short walk, as are 'Seven Mile Shops'. A well-stocked supermarket is conveniently located within ~3/4 mile.

The property itself is built around a large manicured garden featuring expansive lawns, palms and plantings. A well-maintained pool near the ocean/beach front is a favorite place for an afternoon visit while waiting for the elusive 'green flash' from the setting sun. For the more athletic, there are snorkeling and swimming off the beach. There is a tennis court on the property.

Grand Cayman is famous for the clarity of its water, its magnificent reefs with hard and soft corals lining vertical walls, and abundant marine life. It is little wonder that it is a favorite destination for both new and experienced divers. Dive charters are readily available and most provide transportation from the condominium. For those who prefer fishing, deep sea fishing charters are available, offering full and half day trips. And for the horticultural enthusiast, the Queen Elizabeth Botanical Garden, located near the eastern end of the island is not to be missed.

About John Metcalf (owner)

John is a physician and professor at the Medical University of South Carolina. Marilyn is a retired executive assistant. Both of us love scuba diving, and photography.

John Metcalf (owner) purchased this condo in 2001

Why John Metcalf (owner) chose Grand Cayman

First visited Grand Cayman on vacation in 2000 and had the good fortune to stay in a beautiful unit at George Town Villas. Enjoyed it so much that we decided to look for a property on the island. After much searching (at nearly every condo complex on the island), realized that George Town Villas was the right 'fit' for us, combining spectacular views, with convenience to George Town, shopping, and fine dining establishments. While convenient to main shopping areas, it is located off the main highway (West Bay Road) to avoid traffic noise and tourist pedestrian traffic.

What makes this condo unique

Views from the family room and patio, watching the ships in George Town Harbor, and the sunsets, which are often spectacular. An excellent shallow snorkeling location (wreck of the Gamma) is located a short walk south of the complex.

Top floor corner unit with breathtaking view!

George Town Villas #303 is a beautiful place. Very comfortable, clean, with a well stocked kitchen, truly a home away from home! It is in a perfect relaxing location on the island, with the most amazing view! We really enjoyed our stay amongst such gorgeous, pristine surroundings!

Our favorite adventure was by far Captain Mario's Aquarius Sea Tours to Starfish Point, Stingray City, and of course snorkeling! Make sure you visit The Cayman Turtle Center, Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Park, as well as Rum Point!

We ate delicious meals at the Da Fish Shack, Tukka, The Catch, ICOA, Kaibo.

We will definitely stay in John and Marilyn's condo again during our next visit to Grand Cayman.

Thank you for the treasured memories!

Love the property and beautiful views

Condo 303 needs some work, we have stayed in multiple condos here Year after year and have been very happy with them all. Very disappointed in this one for what we pay. Very large ant problem as we walked in (property manager was called nothing done) and the kitchen stove only 2 burners worked(small ones).

A super condo that has it all and made us feel at home. We totally recommend it to anybody!

  • 5 of 5

For our scuba diving vacation, we first decided on our dive company "Off The Wall". They referred us to this condo because the condo owners do their diving with OTW. We still did lots of research as to where to stay but inevitably chose this condo based on the great reviews and location. Getting our emails and questions answered in a very timely manner sealed our decision. There were 4 of us and this 2 bedroom condo was absolutely perfect. The highlights for us were the ease of use of the kitchen, having our own bathrooms which were off our individual bedrooms, and the wonderful balcony. Each bedroom had huge closets containing many hangers (loved that) for your clothes. The grounds were impeccable and we saw multiple maintenance folks attending to every detail of the grounds. Sitting on our balcony, we saw them cleaning the grills, the pool, and the grounds all the time.

The condo is in a lovely quiet neighborhood located off the main road and we got to walk everywhere. The decision was made not to rent a car because we had read about the busses that travel up and down the main road. The bus situation was THE BEST we could have hoped for. They do indeed honk their horn at you if you are walking and will stop to pick you up and take you where you are going. The fare is about $2.50 each person no matter how far you are traveling. (we took a cab from the airport which was $18). All the locals on the bus would help you out with advice and there were super friendly. We felt totally at ease everywhere we went!

Grand Cayman itself has lots to offer and the four of us went diving on 3 of our 7 days. Yes, there are a multitude of dive companies to pick from. We chose "Off The Wall" and we were very glad we did. They knew the island, they were super organized, and they did a wonderful job taking us to fantastic dive sites. However, they would NOT store our wetsuits and we had to bring them back everyday and dry them on the balcony on a rack we found in the closet.

If you decide to visit "Stingray City" we recommend using "Captain Marvin's" to take your tour. The price was so reasonable, the bus that picks you up is great, and their boats are very nice. It IS a zoo at the actual ocean spot so no matter what tour boat you take, there will be a crowd.

In summary, we thank the owners for allowing folks to rent their condo and we want you to know we enjoyed it immensely. It is truly represented here online accurately as a great condo!

A great condo - looking forward to returning

  • 5 of 5

Having become friendly with John and Marilyn through diving a couple of years ago we took them up on the offer of the condo. Initially booking a two week holiday, we enjoyed it so much we extended to three weeks. The photos on the site are a good representation of the condo itself and the view from the top floor balcony is fantastic. Arriving after dark, we woke up the first morning to glorious sunshine and the sight of two cruise ships in the harbour. A spectacular view! The Condo has pretty much everything you’d ever need including internet and cable/internet TV which we only turned on twice in the whole three weeks.

George Town Villas are at the George Town end of SMB and do not have a beach as such but the pool deck makes up for that. The pool is at the water’s edge and as you listen to the waves breaking on the ironstone it's just as good. We were there for three weeks and found the pool quiet, sunbeds available in abundance and even in the Spring Break weeks it was still quiet - although on occasions there was the noise of children playing in the pool for an hour or so. (Depends how grumpy you are feeling but I decided to let them live :-) ) The owners and other "snow birds" were all very amiable and we became friendly with several of them during our stay. Nice people!

As the description says, the community is close to the shops and George Town itself. Several restaurants and bars are in walking distance. The World Gym is fifty yards away which despite my good intentions I managed to avoid, although I have used it many times in the past and it’s a first class gym. Kirk’s supermarket is pretty close too, although I'd think for any stay over a few days a car would be highly desirable to see the island.

John and Marilyn were great. Emails were answered almost immediately and they accommodated our changes without any problems. We had a great stay as you might have gathered by now and have already booked a second three week stay in the summer. Would we recommend it? Without hesitation – although would prefer you avoided the weeks we’d like to stay!
