Amazing view!

  • 5 of 5

We shared the house with another family. We all had a great week playing in the pool with the best view in Sayulita. Every sundown the Tejon would gather in the tree in front of the house. Really great to see some really cool nature right from the balcony. We BBQ'd on the roof. Slept comfortably with air conditioning. They checked in on us throughout the week to make sure everything was good. It was great!

A few things we didn't realize

  • 3 of 5

The house itself was very nice but the ants and bugs were a constant pain. No one warned us not to leave food out on the counters so the first day ants were in everything and we fought them the whole week. Second was the towel issue. We had 1 towel for shower and 1 towel for the pool for the whole week. We did not have access to the washer dryer they were locked up. When we asked about them we were told to go the the laundry and pay to have them done. REALLY after paying almost $3000. The whole idea behind a house is for those little extras. There was no cleaning lady not that we needed one. But when we all got sick It would have been nice to have a little help like clean towels and sheets after 4 days. The good news is the house is well furnished. Gorgeous views and all the dishes and glasses we needed. It is way more Spectacular than the pictures can show. Would we rent this again. I think not. Others their had full access to all things including more cleaning supplies than just a broom and dustpan. :>(

Owner's Response: Marion, Thank you for the review.  We always like to hear how your stay was at Casa Agave. I am sorry to hear you had a couple of issues.  I followed up with our property manager and she did check in several times to see how you were doing and if you needed anything.  She was not made aware that you wanted extra towels and cleaning supplies, if she had known they would have been made available to you. Your stay was for 5 nights at a rate of $450/night (total=$2,250). As stated in your Rental Agreement there is a mid-week cleaning and the towels are changed out for a 7 night stay.  Also, by all means if the sheets had been soiled from being sick they would have definitely been replaced.  Our housekeeper is on site and would have tried to accommodate you in anyway she could.  Also, as stated in the Rental Agreement we do not provide laundry facilities for our guests.  You will find this to be true for most rentals in Sayulita.  Our property manager did say there are facilities in town you can take your laundry to and for a small fee our caretaker would have done this for you. As emphasized by the property manager you were staying next to the jungle and with the some open air windows there will be some bugs/ants etc...something that cannot be avoided. We do fumigate often to try to keep them under control.  We will make sure to let our guests know not to leave food out and I will also put this in the rental reminders. I am sorry to hear that you will not be coming back.  Hopefully you will change your mind and we will see you again.  Thanks again for the feedback, we are always trying to improve. Best Regards, Theresa Meyer

Excellent House, Great View!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 8 loved the house, and we would highly recommend it. The 3 upstairs bedrooms are totally lovely while the two downstairs are fine, though lacking in natural light. It is about a 15 minute walk from the house to the center of town, and it is easy to get cabs back up the hill. The terraces and pool are really nice, and the kitchen is well equipped. For the price and the view, we highly recommend Casa Agave! The staff were responsive to our needs as well!

Very comfortable place to stay. Great views. Just far enough from town for peace and quiet also. Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect for a large group!

  • 5 of 5

Casa agave was home to 10 of us girls for 9 days and it was perfect! It is very spacious, many different areas for the group to hang out and the pool was fantastic! Having the two kitchen was also wonderful as we loaded up on food and drinks to have at the house. All of the bedrooms were very comfortable and large. The fact that it was two girls per bathroom was incredibly handy as well, although everyone was coming upstairs to use the open air showers, which were just beautiful! The hill is quite gruelling to climb up but the views are just stunning and well worth it! We loved our time at casa agave and can't wait to book again!

Gorgeous View!

  • 4 of 5

The home is located on a hill that gives you truly a spectacular view. 3 of the bedrooms are either on the main floor or upstairs & are very comfortable. I was not a fan of the 2 bedrooms downstairs as the walk to them is "dungeon-like." All the bedrooms do have a/c units & these are a must if you are staying in high humidity months. Unfortunately, the main living area does not have an a/c & it would have been nice to have that comfort in such warm weather. The home was very clean upon arrival but there is some TLC that is needed. The pool has missing tiles that make it look tired & there are cushions with rips in them that need to be replaced. The shower faucets look tired as well, they are clean but look very old. Keep in mind that there is NO jacuzzi - the smaller round structure by the pool is just a smaller pool.

The two master bedrooms upstairs have a beautiful shower where one side is open to the spectacular view with beautiful plants for privacy. The only complaint is that these showers have very little pressure so if you are prepared with that mindset & do not expect powerful pressure then you will be fine. (Don't forget to bring your own shampoo/ conditioners/soaps as they do not provide this < which I think they should).

Staying 5 days without fresh bath towels in humid weather is not a good idea so I would suggest paying extra for fresh linens daily as the humidity does not allow the towels to dry thoroughly. If you plan to use the pool or go to the beach, bring your own beach towels as the ones they provide are just old, small bath towels < again, I think they should invest in quality beach towels for guests & charge guests if they disappear.

The property managers Sara & Heather do a great job communicating & taking care of your questions. The owner, Theresa is also very responsive to questions. I would suggest if you rent a golf cart to ask for the super rugged type with heavier wheels as the dirt road to the home has huge bumps and divots.

Also keep in mind that you are in a jungle-like atmosphere, there are all sorts of bugs, insects, geckos & tons of moths. There is a family that lives on the property who take care of the home & I asked the lady if she could spray for bugs as there were so many & it made a huge difference. I think this is something that perhaps should be done without having to ask for it. (There is also a hornets nest on the outside shower by the pool which prevented us from using it)

Owner's Response: I'm sorry to hear about your frustrations with the house during your 5 night stay. It is our policy to check in with guests to make sure their needs are met. I have followed-up with the property manager and the caretakers. The manager was there on a daily basis to check-in and she informed me that fresh towels and linens and other amenities were not requested. If they had known they would have done their best to honor the reasonable request at no extra charge. Even though it is stated in your Rental Agreement that for a 7 night stay we do a mid-week cleaning and change out towels, we do try to honor the request of extra needs. It is also stated in the Rental Agreement of what we provide for supplies. Our rental rate is at the lower end for a 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom house in Sayulita. Part of the reason for this, as a house rental we don't provide all the extra amenities that you would get at a resort/hotel for a much higher price. As already mentioned to you we are aware of some rips in some of the lounge cushions and are in the process of recovering all of the cushions hopefully to be done by November. All the pool-side cushions were just recovered right before your stay. We are always trying to make improvements so we do really appreciate your feedback. Sincerely, Theresa Meyer Owner

We are located on Nanzal Hill which is about 1/2 mile up on the north hillside behind Sayulita. It is about a 15-20 minute walk to town/beach, a little longer going back up. A vehicle or local golf cart rental is recommended to get around in and up and down the hill. The hill is steep but very much worth the quiet beautiful views and sunsets.
