A little "peace" of heaven on earth !!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I had searched for a place to vacation on the Key without much success, the HomeAway site was our last attempt to find the perfect place for our vacation.....and we found it. The cottage was absolutely fantastic, the decor and layout were great and it came furnished with everything you needed. The grounds were breathtaking and each day you would discover something new and taking a dip in the saltwater pool to cool off was the best. The beach area was slightly different from the pictures, but that is all part of the ever changing beauty of the ocean. You can access the beach, take long walks, sit under the palm trees & read, fish, swim, watch the boats go by and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. The Mirmans are delightful people who gave us many helpful suggestions for restaurants, grocery store/farmers market and sightseeing adventures. We enjoyed the tour of the grounds when we arrived and took many pictures of the variety of lush tropical plants. We would absolutely recommend this for the perfect vacation location, if you want to feel total relaxation, like time stands still this is the place.

What a grea place.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was cute and immaculate, and everything you need were available. The pool was beautiful and super clean. We loved all the trees and MR. Mirmen was the greatest. He explained what kind of trees they were. I could have listened to him for hrs. He was so helpful on everything. We would ask him where would be the best places to eat, and he knew where to go. The stay was the best we ever experienced. We just wish we would have spent more time with him. It was our 50th anniversary. We are going back next year. Thank you MR.& Mrs. Mirmen. Jerry and Iris

A perfect, relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

I booked a week at this cottage in hopes of getting some proper rest and relaxation, and this property definitely delivered. The cottage is lovely; super clean and very well air conditioned, both of which are essential if you're planning to do a week in Florida in the summer. The high ceilings make it seem even bigger than it is, and there's natural light galore. The pool was a real highlight for us. The saltwater makes the water softer than a traditional pool, and you don't leave smelling like chlorine, which is lovely. There are birds chirping everywhere and butterflies flitting about; it's basically paradise. The beach is lovely as well. There's a sandbar a few hundred feet out, and watching the boats come in and out makes for excellent entertainment. There's also beautiful foliage everywhere. The owner is gifted gardener, and learning about his different plants was a joy. It also meant fresh fruit straight from the garden (figs, bananas, cherries, etc), which made for my favorite lunch of the trip. The owners struck the perfect balance of giving us space while also occasionally checking in to make sure we were happy, enjoying our stay, and having our needs met. They were also happy to accommodate my dogs, which was one of the key reasons we selected the property. I'm not sure I've ever seen my dogs happier than they were the week we spent at this property. I can't recommend it highly enough.

What a wonderful place to escape!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a peaceful, quiet spot, to get away from it all, this is it! This Gulf front property has lush foliage, a large beautiful pool and all the privacy you want.

The immaculate cottage is perfect for a couple. It is fully equipped and has everything you need. Just pack your clothes!

The bathroom is bright and airy, with space to place your personal belongings. It has a large walk-in shower and we had no problem with the uncovered windows (mentioned in previous reviews).

We felt totally at home in this tropical oasis. The hosts for this vacation retreat could not have been nicer! When they said “just call us or knock on the door”, we knew they mean it!

We had a great week in Siesta Key and being able to bring our dog, made it even better.

Thanks to Ilene and Al for their hospitality, for sharing their piece of paradise, and letting us play with Fannie and Mogley!

Lastly, there are plenty of places to eat in Siesta Key and you are close enough to everything in Sarasota in case you want to explore the area.

Have fun! We did!

A few disappointments, but great overall.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was very nice and, with one major exception, as advertised (see #2 below). Although the cottage is on the same property as their house, the owners respected our privacy and never intruded. (We only met one of them, and that was the day we arrived.) There are a few issues:

1. As another reviewer noted, there are no curtains in the bathroom - sitting on the toilet or standing in the shower, you get a perfect view of the owner's house (and, I assume, vice versa). We bought some black plastic trash bags and taped them over the windows - problem solved.

2. The description of the cottage said that it included a 'private beach'. If you walk around behind the owner's house, there is a part of their back yard with sand on it; however, it terminates at a sea wall that drops off about 5 feet to the shore. There is no walkable beach, just a spot where you can look at the water. Also, about 100 yards from the sea wall is a sand bar; the night that we arrived, about 20 boats were gathered around the sand bar with music blasting. Not a very peaceful spot. We found the public beaches, though not really within walking distance, to be much nicer.

3. Several times per day throughout our stay, we found some weird bugs in one section of the bedroom area. I have no idea what they were - they were about 1/4 inch long, no wings or visable legs, but they had a tongue-like thing that would come out from under them and pull them along - and it would come out from either end. Harmless, I'm sure, but kinda creepy. We swept up about 20 to 30 of them each time, about 3 times per day.

So, once we readjusted our expectations, we had a wonderful time. Fortunately, we had a rental car, so we were able to drive about 2 miles to the real beach each day. The cottage was comfortable, the grounds were beautiful, and the pool was lovely.

Owner's Response: 1. Curtains in the bathroom. Firstly, virtually everyone loves the bathroom. So many of our guests took photos of the bathroom because they want to re do their bathroom with the same look. The cottage is raised about two feet. There are three small windows at the top of the wall in the bathroom, It is easy to look out. But, in front of the windows is a clump of fish tail palms, which makes it impossible to look into the window. In addition, attempting to look into the windows, the viewer has to look up as the elevation of the cottage and windows enable you at best to see the ceiling. You are unable to look into the windows from our house because of the palm trees. The reason we did not use curtains, is most guests like the airy feel. 2. We have about 150 feet on the Gulf. There is a sea wall, but a stairs with three steps going down. Most of the time the sand goes out about 30 feet in front of the stairs. When this guest stayed in the cottage, we had constant rain and the water was higher than usual. No one else had a problem going on to the beach. We always state the beach is not a long walking beach, but a private beach. The sand bar is about 500 feet from our beach and on weekends local people bring their boats and enjoy the water. Most people enjoy watching the boats and activities. No one has ever complained about the sound, considering the distance from our beach. 3. We have an exterminator to spray the cottage. Neither the housekeeper or guests mentioned these bugs. If this guest mentioned the pests, we would have had the exterminator come right out. 4. If they would have told me they wanted the public beach, there is a parking area much closer. Most of the guest try the public beach one day and spend the rest of the time at our beach because it is quieter, private and no crowds. 5. I realized the guest was a complainer when I showed them around, I picked some rare fruits and gave it to them. They spit them out. Every other person loved these fruits. They are very sweet with great texture.
