Kathy's Place is located in a small cove with a southern exposure and magnificent 'million dollar' view overlooking the main channel, the Hales Ford Bridge, Smith Mountain and the Bridgewater Plaza just below Bouy Marker R 30. This waterfront townhome is one of two in a unique triplex (See Spike's Place, VRBO Listing #282712) situated on over two acres in a single family residential subdivision. A convenience store is 5 minutes away, and grocery stores, restaurants, shopping centers, marinas, boat rentals, movies and the State Park are all within 2 to 30 minutes' drive - some by car and some by boat! The small protected cove is ideal for swimming, fishing, floating, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boating but with easy access to the lake and only 2 minutes from the Bridge which has restaurants, miniature golf, game room, gift shops, realtors and the Chamber of Commerce.
Kathy's Place is two stories totaling 2800+ sq. ft. plus a 200 sq. ft. lakefront sunroom. All rooms are spacious and comfortably furnished. There is a queen bed and twin bed in the master bedroom. The lakefront bedroom has a queen bed and a twin bed. The back bedroom has a double bed and a bunk bed (both twin mattresses). The living room has a new 50' Plasma HD Flatscreen TV with soundbar and a BLURAY DVD Player. The Family room has just been converted (June 2001) to a game room with a brand new pool table with ping pong table top, a foosball table, a 42' HD TV with soundbar and Bluray DVD player on a swivel tilting mount with Directv HD Platinum Package including HBO, Cinemax and Showtime, WIFI High Speed Internet and local telephone service are also included. (New pictures of the game room should be posted no later than January 2012.) The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel cookware, 25 cu. ft. refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, blender and coffeemaker. The laundry room is equipped with commercial size washer & dryer. Scheduled trash pick up is once a week. The unit has cleaning supplies, vacuum, ironing board, iron and hair dryer. There is also a baby gate for the stairwell and a baby seat for use at the dining room table.
In 2010, we tiled the dining room and kitchen, installed a new refrigerator, a new heating and air package, all new vertical blinds.
In 2011 we upgraded the TV to a 50' Plasma HD with soundbar and installed a pool table with ping pong table top and rearranged the family room into a game room with the 42' HD TV with soundbar on a wall swivel mount.
All bed linens, bath towels and kitchen towels along with toilet paper, dish soap, trash bags and courtesy soaps are provided year round EXCEPT FOR THE SUMMER WEEKLY RENTALS. SUMMER WEEKLY RENTERS MUST BRING YOUR OWN BATH AND BEACH TOWELS. The other items listed above will be provided.
There is a dock patio area, large floater dock with electric and water. You will have shared use of 6 kayaks, a paddleboat, canoe and sandy beach area. The dock has access by stairs or golf car ramp. A complimentary golf car will also be provided with each rental for your exclusive use (adult drivers only!) for access to the dock and beach.
We are 'Pet Friendly' provided you have a crate to contain your pet when necessary; your pet is currently in a flea treatment program 60 days prior to your arrival; and you clean up after your pet. There is not a leash requirement on our property provided you keep your pet under control. The neighborhood is 'casual' and cats and dogs do wander onto the property at times. A $50.00 fee per pet will be charged for extra cleaning to keep the unit and yard neat and clean. Any major damage done by your pet will be repaired and billed to you.
There is 'No Smoking' inside but ashtrays are provided on the deck and dock areas outside. Please do not throw butts in the yard, driveway or lake. Thank you.
Our rentals are self-managed, cleaned and maintained directly by us, the owners, Captains Spike & Kathy Franceschini of Spike's Prime Time Fishin'. We and our boats are on premise and available for charter. Please see additional web links on this site.

About Capt. Kathy Franceschini
We started 'Spike's Prime Time Fishin'' in late 1988. Spike and I are striper charter captains with two 22ft deck boats. We purchased the triplex to offer fishing charters and/or waterfront vacation rentals to our clients and to anyone who enjoys the water like we do. We tried to put the amenities we liked best in all of the places we have traveled and stayed into our fishing and rental business.
Capt. Kathy Franceschini purchased this Townhome in 1989
Why Capt. Kathy Franceschini chose Moneta
We chose our triplex immediately for the magnificient view! We also chose it for close proximity to stores, etc. and Route 122. It is near the Hales Ford Bridge, which gives us close access to Bridgewater Plaza and local marinas. It also puts us halfway on the Roanoke River side of the lake, which gives us excellent access to fishing from the Dam to the headwaters the year round. We have deep water under our docks but also have a small shallow water sandy beach.
What makes this Townhome unique
A golf car is included in your rental. We have shared use of 6 kayaks, the sandy beach, a canoe and a paddleboat. We have great fishing off of our docks. We are situated on over 2 acres surrounded by large white pines which gives it a 'compound' effect for privacy. There is pleanty of grass for putting up our volleyball/badminton/croquet sets. A large paved driveway is wonderful for skateboards, bikes, rollerblades and sidewalk chalk. We also live on a dead end street and keeps traffic at a minimum, good for walking and biking.

Great View. Spacious House. Great Hosts.
Beautiful and spacious vacation rental house. Excellent spot on the lake. Close to Bridgewater Plaza by boat. Beautiful view from the back deck. Kathy and Spike were great to work with and answered all our questions. We will definitely stay at this location again if we go to Smith Mountain Lake in the future.
Great place with great hosts!
What a great vacation home with incredible views of the lake. Our family visited for a few days to escape the horrendous winter in western NY. The house had everything we could need and Kathy and Spike were the most hospitable hosts I have ever met. Our children and dog loved the lake and the spaciousness of the house and property. Thank you for a great mini-vacation and we definitely look forward to returning sometime soon. Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to take a fishing trip, but that will hopefully be in the plan next time. Once again, many thanks and take care until next time.
We'll be back
This was a great place for our family stay. Kathy and Spike were great. We celebrated my Dad's 80th bday and the house was very accommodating for all 9 of us. Plenty of room for all. If you are planning to stay anywhere in SML you should stay here. Great view, golf carts were a nice addition to get back and forth from the dock. Definitely book a fishing trip with them. I wish I would have and maybe I would have caught some fish. They came back everyday from their charter fishing with lots of strippers. I was not so lucky. The central location of the house is great to get anywhere on the lake. Right across the lake is all the boat rentals and it is convenient to go to the store if needed. Lots of other homes to rent but this one has all the amenities.
Great spot, great hosts and lots of options - especially if you love the water and fishing.
I brought my two daughters and their families (nine of us all together) here for our annual family outing. We also had two bass boats and a SeaDoo which were no problem for Spike and Kathy - they have lots of dock space. The kids - ages 8 through 14 had a great time swimming and playing in the cove two to three hours a day, "camping" together in the rec room downstairs and just hanging out. The golf carts were a big plus for the "old man" and were great for hauling gear to/from the boats and "the beach". Having your landlords (and fishing guides) onsite with you is also a big benefit.
Suggestions: For multi-family groups - ask Spike/Kathy about the bedroom set up so you can work out your space allocation plan in advance. They can help you and provide some options.
If you've got a set of "walkie talkie" radios, bring them. You can use them for communicating between the beach/docks and the house and not bother with your cell phones. Our kids thought they were neat for ordering "room service" and asking for rides. There are 101 steps from the house down to the dock area - good exercise!
Everything was as advertised. I'd certainly recommend this to friends with similar interests.
Yard/outdoor activities friendly, rollerblade/bike friendly driveway.
