Why Myrtle-Rose Greene chose Arecibo
My travels to Puerto Rico began in 1998, with my then-11-year-old daughter. We toured the entire big island of Puerto Rico as well as the two smaller islands (Vieques and Culebra) by car and completely fell in love with the culture, the food and the beauty of "la isla del encanto". I had entertained the idea of purchasing a property at that point, but it wasn't until 2005, when chance brought me and my husband back to Puerto Rico, that I was finally able to fulfill my dream of having a beach house. In fact, I found my first dream property on the eastern side of the island, in a town called Luquillo, close to El Yunque and the port city of Fajardo. As I developed what would become VillaRosa – Luquillo (VRBO Listing #235755), I also began exploring Puerto Rico all over again. I remembered my visit with my daughter - that we had loved the areas near the Cordillera Central (the central mountain region) because it had seemed to us like a completely different world from the coastal cities of San Juan and Ponce. Things moved slower there, (except on the mountainous highways!), and the paths were less frequently traveled. But we were often rewarded by the majestic mountain forests, large tropical lakes and stunningly uncommon coastlines. So, I began looking on the northwest coast, and stumbled upon VillaRosa – Arecibo. I know that you will fall in love with this property (just like we did) and I also know that you will want to return again and again to “Make Our Home Yours”!

Pictures and reality are not the same, be carefull!!
After 5 years using homeaway.com We had a terrible experience. Let me start explaining the journey
Communication: I had to write the morning of the arrival asking for directions because after they charged the card no communication was sent.
Worst part: no direct proper access to the beach, you have to go down a "rocky cliff" (very dangerous about 7' high) to go down to the beach. Or you have the option of walk around and enter from the neighbors, just be careful because it’s a very narrow street and cars go very fast, someone told us that was dangerous.
Bathroom: the entrance it's about 2’, very uncomfortable, and if you are lucky you can have lizards as companion during your shower. Little detail: there's a note for ladies that don't put paper in the toilet, don't worry even though you don't do it the dirty toilet water comes out during the night and you will have to get up and clean the mess.
Room: there were bugs walking on the bed or ceiling.
Surroundings: You have a bar on one side, good if you want buy things but it gives entrance to the beach to everybody so you can have people all around the property because there's no security, the way you come down they can come in. The owner said it's a private property but there are no signs that help you in case someone gets confused. Remember that the beach is a public space and it gets very crowded during hot days. Also, there's no way you can have a walk around because the property next to it felt down and it’s in the shore.
Maintenance: Things are old, broken (chairs, windows), rusty or full of mildew (a/c) and outside bathrooms are terrible they look and smell as public bathrooms.
This property it’s not as what HomeAway normally have. If you just want to go and sit and enjoy the view while it’s not crowded, go ahead and pay. If you want a good place to enjoy what Puerto Rico has to offer, this is NOT the place, there's a lot more for the same price or lower around the area where you can have a safe vacation.
Once you get there the owner doesn't give you any refund, we had to go and lost our money!!!!!!
I have the pictures to prove the real situation.
Cutest little place ever...we felt like Celebrities hidden away in our own little oasis.
Relajante Y Espectacular !
Gracias Villa Rosa! 😃
Arecibo is a beautiful, beach front property.
The breathtaking ocean views surrounding this Arecibo location were amazing. We really felt relaxed to kick back and enjoy the sun. We also found Puerto Rico to be our new favorite island. There is so much to do from scuba diving and surfing to walking the historic sights and museums. You are close to amazing caves and the giant satellite dish that was in a James Bond movie. You can also ride horses on the beach. Of course the food is fantastic. There is an ice cream store that has 150 flavors!
this review is very much overdue. We had a fantastic time in PR and enjoyed this property. It has an unbelievable location with amazing views of the powerful water. You can't swim out very far but you can wade into the water in the shallow areas. We enjoyed hiking on the sharp rocks (bring good shoes) to look at the water and enjoy the views. The house was comfortable and large enough for our family of 4. (9 and 11). We stayed April 2015. I was unable to enter the correct date due not being able to choose a date that far in the past.
Make time to escape into a slower pace of life and enjoy!
We highly recommend this home to anyone traveling to PR. We arrived in San Juan, picked up our rental and drove to Arecibo. Prior to arriving we picked up some groceries and headed to rental. At arrival we met the property manager and she was so great to work with. Arecibo was an escape for us and we enjoyed every moment. It felt like time slowed down. Naturally waking up around 5am never felt so good. Many things to do or nothing to do (whichever you choose). Highly recommend having a car as you are in a private area/location.The beach behind the house is stunning.
Also, a heads up, everything seemed to be closed from Monday to Wednesday, except a little bakery right next to the house. Don't miss the shave ice stand, by the lighthouse.
Home sleeps 6 with one large bedroom and sleeper in living room. It was perfect for our family, 2 adults and 4 kids. Loved the private beach, the neighboring areas, the food and the places we got to visit. We came to Arecibo to escape and it exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend it.
I know, isn't VillaRosa - Arecibo the best! It allows you to be lazy without feeling guilty. Just love this place.
Arecibo is the ideal spot to explore the north west region. It is home to 'Las Cuevas del Indio' - The Cave of the Indian, the Rio Camuy Caves, the world-famous Arecibo Astronomical Observatory, the Arecibo Lighthouse and Historical Park as well as several great surfing beaches and activities in and around the city. The Rio Camuy Park is said to present some of the most enjoyable spelunking spots in the world. For hiking and mountain bike trails visit the Cambalavhe Forest.
