About Leslie Lamb

Acadia is our favorite place to be. When we purchased the property, it wasn't so pretty, and we have spent years doing construction and gardening. After much hard work it is a pretty and comfortable cottage. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Leslie Lamb purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Leslie Lamb chose Mount Desert Island

we purchased this property, as we knew it had potential for a great little cottage one house in from the water.

Perfect, cozy, relaxing spot

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed in this lovely cottage while exploring Acadia. It was perfect for the two of us! Much more spacious than the pictures show. The flowers were welcoming as was the sunny, open entryway/living room. We were half an hour from most of the hikes we wanted to do but very close to Southwest Harbor which was a classy and quaint town with just enough delicious restaurants and activity to keep us satisfied. We even got pizza one early evening and brought it back to the cottage and sat outside on the patio and ate pizza and drank beers. We had scrumptious seafood in town a few nights as well. It was peaceful and private and felt like we were in our own little world. There were a few hikes we also did close to the cottage and Bass Harbor lighthouse was just a few minutes down the road. We had wanted to extend our stay because we were enjoying our time so much but someone else was arriving. Leslie was great on the phone when we were first exploring options and we are so thankful we decided on this location once we became familiar with a few of the other towns we were checking out online. If you want a home away from home that is close enough to different activities and great food but far enough that you aren't right in the thick of tourist hell, this is definitely a perfect option.

Enjoyable Cottage Near Working Harbor

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay at this cottage. It is perfect for two people looking for a home base to virtually anywhere on Mt. Desert Island. The kitchen was very well equipped with anything a traveler may need (the coffee filters were particularly appreciated). We found the patio to be quite lovely in the morning and a nice way to rest weary legs at the end of the day. A few items that are important to note for future visitors. First, the cottage is on Rt. 102, which means there is some car noise from 6:00 am until early evening. Rt. 102 has a limited shoulder and is not suitable for safe running/walking, in my opinion. Second, the bedroom faces east, making it rather bright in the morning even with a shade and blinds. The final point is not related to the cottage though worth noting. Bass Harbor is remotely located relative to the rest of the island. Southwest Harbor is less than 5 minutes away, but Bar Harbor can be as much as 45 minutes with traffic. Overall, a great place for a couple looking to get away from it all and take in the pleasures of the quiet side (be sure to go over to Seawall with a bottle of wine and some cheese, it's totally legal!).

Owner's Response: Being on the other side of the island from Bar Harbor is a plus for us, as Bar Harbor is too crowded and we go up to Maine to get away from it all! There are many hikes on our side of the island and Echo Lake is only a few miles away, so there is plenty to do if you do not want to go to Bar Harbor. That said, traffic is much lighter in the fall. We do hope people enjoy being on the "Quiet Side"! You may also catch the Island Explorer Shuttle Bus from our village or Southwest Harbor which will make the ride to the other side of the island more enjoyable. Just check the schedule online.

Lovely cottage in a charming area

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the cottage. It was spacious for two people and well cared for. The gardens were beautiful to gaze at and it has the best equipped kitchen I have ever stayed in! I love to cook so it was both used and appreciated.

Leslie was helpful in preparing us for what to expect. It is the quiet side yet there was plenty to do within a 10 to 30 minute car drive. We really enjoyed the quirkiness and excellent cold beer at Nemo's which is a five minute walk away. Thurston's lobster pound was another frequent stop to pick up live lobsters and watch the lobster boats in action in the harbor.

I look forward to returning.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you loved the place..especially the kitchen. As a former chef, I try to put everything there that I will need, and hope that the guests enjoy it as well. I even try to keep in a supply of spices, flour and sugar. I am always happy to speak with potential renters about what is in the area that may be of interest to them.

Quiet, Charming Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough nice things about this house and Leslie. The owners have done a wonderful job fixing up the house. The house was very spacious and clean, and the kitchen was better stocked than any other house we have stayed in. Downstairs there was bookcase full of books and beautiful paintings on the walls. Upstairs there was a video library with DVDs and videocassettes. Outside was a colorful flower garden which we admired from the kitchen table. The house was well-situated and we used it as our home base for exploring Acadia National Park and surrounding areas. The house is less than a block from the water, and we kayaked around a lovely marshy area the owner told us about. We also used the bikes to explore the carriage roads and Schoodic peninsula. Leslie was always available to answer any questions I might have and to offer helpful advice. Our only qualms (and these are very minor) were that the venetian blinds in the bedroom were insufficient to block the early summer sunrise on sunny days, and it was a little difficult to see oncoming traffic when backing out of the driveway onto the main road due to a slight hill on the main road that reduced visibility. We had a wonderful vacation and would definitely recommend this house to others.

Owner's Response: I just wanted to respond about the blinds. I am sorry that Sara didn't notice the shades under the blinds. They must have been all the way up, and so were difficult to see. We put them there as we agree that it is very bright in the morning. Future renters, please note that there are shades behind the blinds. Thank you!

Total bliss in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This accomodation was perfect for a romantic, peaceful holiday vacation. It was clean, comfortable and simply charming. The gardens and grounds were lovely. the owner does fabulous things with flowers! The birds came to the feeders every morning and evening and it was lovely to sit on the patio and watch. There was a lively local "pub" within walking distance that was popular with the local fisherman. The house sits just off the main road and it was a breathtaking drive around the island. There is a lobster pound nearby and a small grocery, and a larger, excellent grocery, wine shop and cafes just up the road. It was a one minute walk down to the water and a common area. We would take our snacks and drinks there in the evening and watch the brilliant sunsets. We would definately stay there again, and plan on it for next year! There is so much to see and do.
