Why Tammy Russell-Rice chose Princeville

Since that fateful summer day back in 2004 when Clayton and I purchased The Dolphin Hale, we have learned a few things about the Vacation Rental business. And our guests are the beneficiaries. Taking things to the next level, we recently added Nancy Miller to Team Dolphin Hale. As your island host, Ms Miller brings years of experience in the hospitality industry on Kauai to the table. And as a concierge, she is happy to make recommendations with your unique party in mind. However, you are on your own when it comes to operating the coffee maker. ; )

Quiet Hawaiian Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Clean, plenty of towels and stocked well. Nice ocean breeze and quiet neighborhood. Located close enough to food market that we could enjoy a nice walk.

Spacious and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

Our group thoroughly enjoyed the Dolphin Hale, They really appreciated the luxury of enough bedrooms and bathrooms. Lovely high quality furnishings and amenities. We had local friends over for a dinner with plenty of socializing space for all. And Princeville is tops for convenience as well as scenery.

Owner's Response: Aloha Cathi ~ As a tri-level house, one of the real advantages to The Dolphin Hale is that the bedrooms are separated from the main living areas--providing individuals privacy or quiet time away from the group as desired. And when it is time to socialize, the Open Floor Plan of the kitchen/family/dining areas (as you mentioned) is ideal whether you be a host or guest of the party! ~ Mahalo for sharing, Tammy

I recommend this place!!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home for 7 of us for a family vacation. This house is as shown in the pictures. It was very clean and very well stocked. I don't think that I can list all the items that the house had, but pretty much everything that we looked for, we found! Examples: scissors, bottle openers, soaps of all kinds; plenty of tissues, toilet paper and paper towels; lots and lots of beach towels; bath towels and linens; lots of dishes, pots and cutlery; some bicycles to use (check the tire pressure before you head out! there is a hand pump there if you need it...), a garden hose handy for washing off sandy feet and fins outside after returning from the beach, etc. etc. All appliances worked well.

The house is located in a quiet, respectable neighbourhood. There is a beautiful local beach nearby which is only accessible through a short footpath, and therefore is semi-private. It was great for swimming and snorkelling! (Be aware this beach does not have a lifeguard, and locals said sometimes there are dangerous currents here - may not be suitable for children - our group consisted of all adults who are good swimmers and safety aware. There are other supervised beaches nearby, accessible by vehicle.) The house is located in Princeville, and sometimes the drive to some Kauai activities seemed a bit far, but once we were "back home", we appreciated the house's large size and amenities.

The house has two full master suites, one smaller suite, as well as 2 other bedrooms which share a common bathroom. There was plenty of room for the 7 of us. The kitchen and living areas are very spacious, so we never felt cramped or like we were bumping into one another. There is a little nook on the main floor for anyone who would just like to curl up with a book while others are playing cards in the living room! The large dining room table seated us all comfortably, with still more bar chairs at the kitchen island for those sipping a drink and watching the cooking going on.

While I thought that the rental price of this house was a little steep, the adage, "you get what you pay for", applies. This house was worth every penny! We didn't encounter any trouble during our stay. I would recommend this place.

Owner's Response: Aloha Paula ~ Years before Clayton and I purchased The Dolphin Hale, we were guests at a vacation rental in Bodega Bay, CA. It was a beautiful house with sweeping views of the ocean, but it had little else to offer—we were even expected to bring our own sheets?! So, when it came time to stock The Dolphin Hale, we wanted to ensure our guests did not go without the creature comforts that make a house a home. We are pleased to know we succeeded. Mahalo for sharing your positive experience at The Dolphin Hale. ~ Tammy

Fantastic Villa and Owner

  • 5 of 5

Had a fabulous time at The Dolphin, Very close to the St Regis Hotel and 2 minutes form Food Land and restaurants.

The villa was immaculate and very well organized. Excellent wi-fi, beautiful views and a stunning kitchen. All the bedrooms were very comfortable and slept 10 people very comfortably.

The owner Tammy was a pleasure to communicate with, so accommodating and friendly! So many nice small touches in the villa were appreciated, like a bottle of red and white wine in the wine fridge and even a bottle of prosecco too!

The garage also had wake boards, bikes and plenty of beach equipment.

The only thing missing was A/C, however, there are plenty of windows that allow a nice sea breeze to pass through the entire villa.

Would highly recommend

Owner's Response: Aloha Hari ~ Thank you for taking the time to write after returning to NYC. I value your feedback. In regard to A/C, I would like to share a few facts here for folks who may have a mainland mindset on this subject. With highs on Kauai typically maxing out in the mid-80s and the cost of electricity doubling that of the national average, A/C actually is a rare amenity in residential island homes. Vacation Rentals that do offer any kind of A/C (usually swamp coolers) must charge guests a premium just to keep them maintained and running. As is, The Dolphin Hale does have ceiling and portable fans throughout the home as well as the many windows you mentioned for the comfort of our guests. ~ Mahalo, Tammy -- Update: A/C Coming Summer 2018!

Great Place - Awesome House

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4th time staying at the Dolphin Hale. The latest updates improved an already spectacular home. The new kitchen is much better placed in the house with great views while preparing meals. The new secondary master suite is also an impressive update. The house is perfectly located on a quiet street with incredible ocean views. Close to the golf course, close to the local private beach, and close to the local shops and restaurants within Princeville. This location is also good for access to many island amenities such as horse back riding, zip lines, ATVs, botanical gardens, hiking trails, Hanalei, and oh the beaches and snorkling spots. WOW! I did not think the house could get better and the Owners raised the bar again. Bring friends as there is lots of room. This is absolutely the best option for a house on Kauai.

Owner's Response: Aloha Kevin ~ Clayton, I and our team members from Elite Vacation Rentals are delighted that you and yours continue to chose The Dolphin Hale as your home away from home when visiting Kauai. As someone who knows The Dolphin Hale well, we especially appreciate your approval of the updates and upgrades we have made to the place. Unlike anything on the mainland, even seemingly small projects can be major ones on an island home--nothing comes easy or cheap. So, we are thrilled to see our efforts acknowledged and rewarded by your family's return again and again. ~ Mahalo, Tammy

Owner's Response: Aloha Susan ~ Thank you for your appreciation of our ongoing effort to offer our guests real value and comfort when they choose The Dolphin Hale. Maintaining an island home, especially one so close to the ocean, can be a real challenge (even stainless only stains less). Presently, we have new landscaping going in--complete with a Dolphin Fountain. So, when you and yours do return, there will be plenty of hiding places for those Easter eggs! ~ Mahalo, Tammy & Clayton
