As a frequent traveler that has rented out private homes all over the world, this was the most disappointing experience I have ever had. I will say that the house is full of potential, and has some very charming elements like the back porch, but it is in a very poor state and it is clear that the owner has not been to the property in some time to monitor and improve the quality of the home and it's offerings. There were several issues with this house - the top one being the overall cleanliness. The house was dusty, dirty, and disorganized. Prior to our trip, the owner said that guests should bring their own linens "because the housekeeper doesn't do laundry." I found this to be unusual, especially at this price point, and think it should be clearly stated on the listing. Despite communicating with the owner prior to arrival to use linens in the house, our beds were not made upon check in and there was no hand soap in any of the bathrooms or at the kitchen sink. We were told to make our own beds, and the linen closet was extremely disorganized, so we had to go through all of the sheets to find the size that worked for each bed. The linens did not smell clean despite our being told that they were, so we washed everything before using it. There were decorative pillow cases and covers on the beds that did not seem to be clean (and who washed them, if the housekeeper won't?). Given COVID, this was very alarming. The listing notes a fully stocked kitchen, which it wasn't and was extremely disorganized (we ate on salad plates the entire time). We ended up washing all of the dishes before using them, as many did not seem clean and were dusty. There was also mold growing on the shower curtain in one of the bathrooms, cracked tiles in the shower that were covered with duct tape, and a tile caving in behind the sink. Finally, the owner asked if we would be okay with a potential renter coming to see the house during our stay. I stated that we were not comfortable with anyone coming inside, but that she could see the outside of the property. The potential renter came to the house the next day and seemed to have the expectation to see the inside of the house, and I stated that we were okay with her seeing the outside of the house (given COVID, that we were paying to occupy the space, etc.). I then got a nasty text message from the owner saying that she was upset that we did not let the renter in. This was not a nice experience.
