The Inn at Woodmont Plantation, Gauthier Vineyard's Winery & Event Center
New Kent County’s rural character and historic legacy offer a soothing change of pace with scenic country views of active farmlands. We have striven to provide a quiet county setting for our guests. Ensuring your comfort and a pleasant farm winery experience are our primary objectives. The Inn is on its own private lane which also connects it to the winery. There are both a front porch and a screened-in back porch where you can enjoy a cup of hot coffee or tea in the morning and listen to the song birds. In the evening, relax on either porch with a glass of wine and perhaps spot some wild turkey and deer grazing in the surrounding fields.
Common areas include both formal and informal dining areas. Our foyer has multiple sitting areas. There is a library where our guests can chose from thousands of movies and an eclectic collection of books for loan during your stay.
Our spacious guest suites are cheerfully illuminated with five large windows each with expansive country views. All rooms include private sitting areas. Guest accommodations include complimentary tastings at the winery Friday thru Sunday, as well as wine and cheese at the Inn upon check-in on Friday and Saturday at 4:00 PM. Winery hours are available on the winery website: www.GauthierVineyard.com.

We planned this stay in Williamsburg to celebrate a 50th birthday. We did a ghost tour, had dinner, saw a movie, and did some shopping. This house was in a great location being about 20 minutes from everything. The house was beautiful and very clean and comfortable. We’d definitely come back!
We are a group of 9 that have been friends for 52 years. We try to spend a few days together every year. The Inn could not have been a more perfect place! There was plenty of room to gather together as well as space for smaller group chat. We loved the well equipped kitchen, as we cooked all our meals there. We enjoyed the fire pit and our afternoon at the winery. All of us agreed we would be happy to return. Thanks, Mo, for such a great time and space!
A group of 10 rented the entire inn while we were in the general area for a family wedding. The inn was truly lovely and the rooms were all well furnished and very comfortable. It was rainy the weekend we were there, so we did not have the opportunity to fully appreciate the lovely outdoor spaces that were available to us. The owners were very friendly and gave us tickets for wine flights at the winery over the hill.
The inn could not have been nicer! The kitchen and other gathering spaces were spacious and handsomely decorated. My only niggling complaint was just that it was quite remote geographically, and farther than we expected from where we needed to be. For us this was a disadvantage, but I could easily see it as an advantage for others who want to get away. It was a lovely spot and the vineyard was beautiful.
Clean, clean, clean!! The home is beautiful, clean, and spacious. Minutes from the winery, which is a must see. We will definitely return, and recommend this location 100%!
The kitchen is well-stocked with cookware and dinnerware. The dining rooom is lovely, and the island and high top table make large gatherings very comfortable. We enjoyed the fire pit for family s'mores. And don't forget to buy some of the wood-fired pizzas!
Have some wine lover friends. Rented out the inn and brought 5 couples. Saturday we walked over to the tasting room and walked back. Had a great time, both at the inn and at the tasting room. Plenty of space and comfortable even for a group of 10.
Family Time & 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration
Lovely stay at the Inn at Woodmont Plantation for our family celebrating our parents 50th. There were 8 of us and the room accommodations were perfect for all ages. Property is right between Richmond, where we flew in to, and “America’s Historic Triangle”. We walked to the Gauthier vineyard for pizza night which was a highlight. Would highly recommend - we will be back!
My family and I traveled to Virginia for my daughter's baby shower and the Inn was the perfect place for us to stay. The accommodations were exactly what we needed. The property was beautiful. We visited the winery for wine tasting and the wood fired pizza. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be returning.
Perfect location. Easy access to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and airport. Beautiful backyard, we used the grill, firepit and visited the winery. Wish we could have stayed longer. Georgious Inn!
We rent VRBO at least 10 times annually & this is a top favorite property. Spotless, the most comfortable beds, the most well stocked kitchen to prepare meals. The outside property is serene and beautiful. This time we were able to take advantage of the winery which was added plus. You would never need to leave the property. The Host were very communicative to make sure all needs were met. No need to as it was absolutely perfect in every way!

Liked: Check-in, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Communication
Disappointed at best
Location and home was beautiful. There needed to be more thorough cleaning throughout the property. Bed room linens were stained. Kitchen sink was dirty. Dust throughout property. Communication with property manager was condescending and threatening due to an honest mistake of misreading of policies.
And poinsettias, hydrangeas and magnolias. And that's just on the Christmas Tree!
The photos actually do not do the property justice. While there are many fine rental homes, this one feels and like it was built for hospitality.
Whether it is the bright, expansive, and well-equipped kitchen, the elegant dining room or either of the two cozy gathering rooms, the house begs you to pause and enjoy the time.
Add to that the large screen porch and the sprawling patio and you have all that is needed for a memorable stay.
The suites and rooms are large, and each has its own unique flavor and appointments. Digital keypads on each door provide an additional layer of privacy and security for guests.
Plus, it sports a library with an array of books and the LARGEST collection of DVDs we have ever seen at a property. Binge on!
We stayed during the Yuletide and the attention to detail in the decorations gave the home the air of classic Virginia elegance.
The grounds are peaceful. In the evening, the loudest sound was our footsteps,
We did not visit the winery (a miss on our part we suspect) but plan to in the future.
Needless to say, we will be back.
If you plan to visit the Tidewater, don’t miss this home. It is almost a destination unto itself.
Fantastic property and location! Our family of 10 adults stayed two nights. Great house layout and plenty of room for everyone both indoors and out. Used the house as a base camp for trips to Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Hope to return!
Good Location for a Family Gathering Near Williamsburg
We booked this house for a multi-generational family gathering for Thanksgiving. We wanted a large house with sufficiuent bedrooms for everyone, plus facilities for cooking and dining in. This house met our needs well. We would have preferred a location closer to Williamsburg, but the distance did not turn out to be much of a problem--we could get to Williamsburg in about 20 minutes, less time than it usually took us to find a parking space on a sunny holiday weekend. The nice patio and fire pit were useful. Having the Gauthier winery a short walk away was a bonus, not only for the wine but also the well-made pizzas that we had for dinner on Friday night. Communications were sometimes a bit difficult in the days leading up to our stay, but all was resolved in the end.
Property and home were beautiful, perfect for my bridal party and their spouses. This home was spacious for getting ready during my wedding weekend, well equipped for us to prep a bridal brunch, and beautiful for photos to get the big day started. Our only regret was not having time for the complimentary wine tasting next door!
A group of friends were able to rent the entire Inn. We really enjoyes the comfort of this very clean Inn and well stocked kitchen. The winery was a short walk away, where we enjoyed wood fired pizza and some delicious wine. In addition, we made bison filet mignon, and sushi that was made with ease in this huge kitchen that had every utensil, pot, and pan imaginable! We really appreciated having the pleasant back porch and patio to play corn hole and enjoy the stars at night! Communication with the owners was quick and responsive! We will be back soon!
This property felt very welcoming from the moment we walked in. The kitchen had everything you needed, the bathrooms had enough towels for everyone, and the beds were beyond comfortable!! We enjoyed the complementary wine tasting. It really enhanced our experience. I highly recommend this property!!
The property is absolutely stunning and very well stocked to meet every need! So comfortable and restful and provided every thing we needed to spend time together!

About the host
Hosted by Melanie Overton
Mo and Sandi Gauthier, your hosts, are retired Navy veterans, having served over five decades of active duty, combined. Since the 1980s, they had the great fortune to serve mostly in Virginia from Hampton Roads to Northern Virginia. Mo was raised on the North Shore of Boston, MA, entering the Naval Academy in the summer of 1965. Sandi grew up as farm girl in Missouri, graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and entered the Navy in 1975. Upon their retirements in the late 1990s, they chose Virginia as their home, and in 2002, they purchased their home on the York River in Barhamsville, VA. In 2010, they purchased their Fairwinds Farm on Farmers drive and began building their vision.
Why they chose this property
The Inn at Woodmont Plantation is centrally located to Williamsburg & Virginia Beaches. Experience a wine tasting weekend while enjoying the views of 3000 vines and horses grazing in the paddocks. The Inn is a perfect place for the bride or grooms family while utilizing the event center to host your special day.
What makes this property unique
The 2010 construction of the equestrian center was followed with the planting of 3000 vines and erection of the vineyard’s iconic gazebo in 2011. In 2012, they began construction of the winery tasting room. The tasting room was opened in the winter of 2014. In 2016, they began construction of an event center, sitting atop their underground winemaking and wine storage facility. First events in the new center were held in 2018.
In the Spring of 2019, Mo and Sandi purchased a new construction house located on 12-acres at the end of Woodmont Plantation and adjacent to their Fairwinds Farm. They immediately began a long process of converting this five bedroom house into their prospective Inn, with plans to open in the Spring of 2020. The 2020 Covid pandemic delayed opening until September 0f 2020.
