About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft + Office, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

This 20 year-old home is in a beautiful residential neighborhood overlooking Marino Reserve. All living areas and bedrooms have complete ocean views. The large living area with a cozy fireplace is connected to the dining/kitchen area. The deck, with seating, a table and BBQ runs the length of the house and is perfect for sunset viewing and listening to the waves.

You will enjoy deer in the neighborhood almost daily, listening to the waves softly hitting the shore and the seals. 'I wanted to let you know that we had the best experience ever. 1785 is the best view in all of Cambria in our opinion and we felt so lucky. The many deer Cambria has were a big surprise.' WB. 3/10/09.

Cambria is a charming town with many shops and restaurants. The Wine Country of the Central Coast is nearby - toward lovely Paso Robles. Hearst Castle is 6 miles north and Big Sur and Monterey are there for a day trip. San Luis Obispo, 20 miles to the South is a charming college town - with access to an airport and train station.

Minimum Stay Requirements:

2 nights in the off season (Typically after Labor Day weekend to Memorial Day weekend)

2 - 3 nights over holiday weekends (President's Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day)

4 nights over Thanksgiving and during the Christmas/New Years season

2 - 5 nights during the summer

Peace and quiet!

  • 5 of 5

Seriously, this home really does have the best views. This beautiful home is high up on a hill in a quiet neighborhood, with no home behind it. The vista is uninterrupted more than 180 degrees. Views are of trees and preservation area adjacent to the water. The home is full of windows and transoms, floor to ceiling in the living spaces. You don't even need to use the gorgeous deck to get full views. It is a mile to the water, and to the gorgeous bluff trails on the preserve. Because the home is perched up so high (it feels like being in a tree house), the sounds of the waves breaking are as if you're right on the water. You can stay home and read all day and still feel like you've had a day at the beach! The huge master bedroom also has windows wrapped around, again over 180 degrees. You will sleep to the sound of the ocean, and wake up to see the ocean lighting up. There is an ocean view deck off of both bedrooms and the loft, so everyone gets a deck as well as the view! The furniture is very comfortable, and everything we needed was here, and then some. We used the gas fireplace every single morning while we enjoyed our coffee and watched the waves break. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, and wildlife abounds. We loved the shops and restaurants in the little town, which in only a couple of miles away. We will definitely be back. The only drawback is that you will not want to go home.

Awesome views and Tranquil

  • 4 of 5

We relaxed for 3 days, enjoyed the views and did absolutely nothing but sit on the deck, read and enjoy some drinks all while looking at the beautiful Pacific and listening to the sounds of the seals.

The kitchen was functional, I cooked all meals during our visit, the bbq needs to be replaced but I made it work. It does get a bit brite in the early a.m in the master bedroom due to the thin shades, bring your sunglasses if your a guy and your eye mask if your a women, or 2 eye mask, the view from the room is awesome which makes up for the early awakening.

Beautiful home, beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this beautiful home for 2 months and enjoyed every minute of it. The unobstructed views from every room in the house are spectacular: an always changing panorama of the ocean and sky, whales spouting every day (we were here in February and March), the Harbor Seals visible on the rock outcroppings, and the lush vegetation of the nature preserve to the south. Fiscalini Ranch Reserve, a treasure of ocean front land, is just a short walk away, and we took our dog on the bluff trail twice a day. The house was perfect for us with a good kitchen layout, a spacious living room, a cozy loft, and two good sized bedrooms. Peggy, the owner is extremely nice and helpful and took an interest in making sure we were happy with everything. Breen was also very responsive to any questions we had. Cambria has an abundance of excellent restaurants and is very close to many wineries. In addition to getting to know Cambria, we traveled north to Ragged Point, visited the Elephant Seals several times, saw the sea otters in Morro Bay, spent a couple of afternoons at Cal Poly, spent several days exploring San Luis Obispo, checked out Montano de Oro State Park, Cayucos, Avila Beach, Pismo Beach, Atascadero, and Paso Robles. We would highly recommend staying here.

Fantastic Views!

  • 4 of 5

Wow, this place really does have great views and sounds of the ocean!!! Several mornings I heard seals barking, and saw deer almost daily. It's close enough to walk to Fiscalini Ranch, about a mile, but it's mostly uphill coming home. It's very comfortable and nice, but there were a few issues.

The information given to us about the WiFi was incorrect, but you can find the correct info on the Router downstairs in the Master Bedroom. Also, some of the appliances were too dirty and disgusting to use, but after washing/scrubing them thoroughly, we were able to use them.

Only the living room, kitchen, and one bath are on the main floor, so if anyone has mobility challenges, this house is NOT for them. Both bedrooms are downstairs and the fold-out sofa is upstairs. Also, while it is pet friendly, there is no enclosed area.

The house is nice despite the spider webs on the windows, the need for a new paint job, and the stains and tear in the carpet going down stairs. I really appreciated using the garage, and the ocean views are tremendous!!

Word of caution. It took over a month to get my security deposit back, but Breen (the booking agency) was very good about communication.

I would recommend this house mainly because of the expansive, calming ocean views (no surf to speak of, just gentle lapping of the water) and central location providing easy access to beaches, wineries, Hearst Castle, Big Sur/Carmel, etc.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful review and for your 4 out of 5 star rating. We have scheduled interior painting and carpeting for early 2017 and will attempt to move that date closer. In addition - we are updating our bathroom. As for appliances unclean and spider webs (ugh) we tried a different cleaning company but will return to the very acceptable one we previously used. Hopefully you can see from other reviews - we take pride in our lovely home so that guests can enjoy it in comfort.

180 degree ocean view from main floor balcony

  • 4 of 5

Walking into the home and the beautiful ocean view was spectacular. We did not want to leave, and some of the trips we had planned were not necessary because the view was exactly what we were looking for, and we wanted to enjoy it. What added to the stay was the wonderful walks and wildlife in the area, there was a deer or two in the neighborhood daily including a fawn, wild turkeys and we even saw a skunk sleeping thank goodness. Watching the birds from the main floor and the balcony were magnificient. There are two walking trails in the area one Lampton Cliffs (stairs down to ocean) and I forgot the other one but the view and various places to sit and enjoy the view are wonderful. I was able to read 3 books.

we would definately stay again.
