About Chad Verch

Pictured are two of the owners (Uncle and nephew) We love West Coast life and all that it has to offer in beauty and recreation.

Chad Verch purchased this house in 1950

Why Chad Verch chose Sooke

This property has been in the family since 1950 with the newer house being constructed in 2003 from lumber harvested and milled on the property. The older cottage (not a rental) was built in the early 1920's with an addition added in the late 1940's. This property has over 900 feet of waterfront with a deep water dock, 2 beaches and a rocky point. You can catch legal sized rock and dungeness crab right of the dock. (remember you need a salt water licence that can be purchased online and the area is abundant in sea and wild life. It truly is a piece of paradise!

What makes this house unique

Southern Vancouver Island has a mild climate with pleasant warm, dry summers and mild, wet conditions in spring, fall and winter. It rarely snows in the lower areas of this region and if it does snow it usually doesn't stay around long.

At Heron Point House you will see many varieties of wildlife, both in the water and on land. It is common to see deer, peacocks, otters, raccoons, seals, hummingbirds and bald eagles daily. If you are lucky you may even see one of the local great horned or barred owls. Bears and cougars frequent the area and you may catch a glimpse of one while enjoying one of the many hiking trails nearby.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Arrived in rain last night but was soon comforted by the warmth of a

crackling wood scented fire and the laughter and chatter of my beloved

family. Woke up early this morning and looked out to a complete and

utter calm and stillness - where 'peace comes dropping slow'. Such

moments, snatched from busy lives, are precious memories to taste and

savour for days to come with people I love. Shafts of sunlight are

beginning to to make the pine leaves sparkle like crystals. I must out

and sniff the air...............Sybil and Chad, thank you for all of this.

Great place!

  • 4 of 5

The property is great! Nice location. I was wondering if check in time ( 4:00p.m.) and checking out (11a.m) looks just. Especially

during winter time that is dark and makes the driving difficult . Thank you.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! We often will change our check in and check outs when requested to do so based on whether another client is going to be checking in that day. We would have done so in this case if asked. We hope that Christmas was great for your family out there.

Excellent Experience

  • 5 of 5

We live on the Island, but found the perfect place for an easy escape. The property is amazing, with easy access to great hikes and outdoor activities. We had a mixed bag of weather, however found that you could find well sheltered hikes nearby. The property has lots of space for playing games and being outside. You can't beat the view from the hot tub, or the smell of the fireplace.

Booking the location was very easy, and no hassle getting access to the property. It was very clean on arrival, and came equipped with everything we needed.

Would definitely come again, and recommend to any family or friends

|If you are looking to experience the rugged West Coast this is the place to go! Lots to see and do while still feeling rested and definitely relaxed. The place had it all and made us feel at home. Location was ideal for exploring the outdoors. Kids had a blast looking for clams and just playing on the beach. It was such a treat sitting in the hot tub enjoying the breathtaking view after a day of sightseeing. This place is ideal for all ages. No disappointments!!!!

Fantastic Week!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed at Heron Point House for a few days to relax and enjoy the quiet. It was perfect, all around. The house was spotless with extra little touches that made it very welcoming. This house was exactly what we needed and I would definitely recommend it. The hot tub was easy to manage, and a lovely treat to sit outside and enjoy the crisp air.

The owners didn't contact us throughout our stay, which we liked, but knew they were available if needed.

We will definitely be back!

Wonderful Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We booked Heron Point House to celebrate my wife's birthday, and it was the perfect getaway for us and our two young boys. The weather forecast for Victoria was for heavy rains and heavy winds, but Sooke seemed to be sheltered from this, and we had one morning of mild temperatures and sun! We hiked around East Sooke Regional Park in shorts and t-shirts - in December!

The house was well appointed, spotless, and had lots of toys for our boys to play with when the sun went down. The DVD and video collection was huge and had something for everyone. We loved the private beach, which was great for finding shells and skipping rocks. Next time we'll bring some bait and try our hand at crab fishing off the dock. Every afternoon we'd see 2 bald eagles roosting in the large fir tree right outside the house, almost directly above the hot tub. My wife and older son loved the hot tub, the view from it was amazing. I'd always have a fire going in the fireplace by the time they returned from their dip.

One word of caution - drive slowly and watch out for deer on East Sooke Road after the sun goes down! We saw 3 deer crossing the road, and numerous sets of eyes reflected in our headlights.

Highly recommended and we'll be back!
