Location, location, location!

This roomy and clean house was absolutely perfect for our group from California and Australia for our daughter's engagement (a surprise to nobody in the group but her!). I had been worried by the previous review (insects) but we agreed ahead of time that they went with the territory. As it turned out, keeping the screens closed was all that was needed to protect us (duh!). Snorkeling was amazing right there by the house! It is a very short drive to Haleiwa for restaurants, etc. The manager was super helpful and non intrusive. I hope we'll get the chance to go back here again some day.

Beautiful Home but insect problem

This beach front home was very beautiful. The views and the beach cant be beat! The house was clean, but within a few hours after we started cooking the flies were unbearable, inside the house and outside was swarming with flies. Also,The grounds keeper who lives across the street came over mulitiple times for "something" but it was obvious that he was checking on us. We have small children and are not loud people, there was no reason for him to drop by multiple times. It was insulting and rude.

The bedrooms are spacious and the bathrooms are clean. On the last day however ther was an outburst of termites. I hate giving bad reviews, but the insect problem was bad! We are from the islands and use to living with bugs, Its a shame becuase the location and the home are truly amazing.

I wouldnt recommend this house for people with children due to the insect problem, if you plan on not spending a lot of time at the house this is the spot for you!

Owner's Response: I am glad these renters agreed with me that "the views and the beach can't be beat" at Honu House and that the beautiful beachfront location, spacious rooms and cleanliness were definite pluses."The location and the house are truly amazing". As to the "insect problem", flies are endemic to Hawaii and whenever food is left out or screens are left open, there will be a fly problem. The entire house, doors and windows are screened.The on-site manager as well as the literature left for renters in the home both stress putting all food away and keeping screens closed. We cannot control occupants who choose to ignore this. We do periodically let off "bug bombs" when the house is not occupied, as well tenting for termites on a regular basis. In addition, we spot clean and fumigate regularly for all insects. The on-site manger and I, the owner, regularly have the rugs, window treatments and floors professionally cleaned. The house is very kept extremely clean, as noted by these renters. The on-site manager is a real plus and a true benefit. If there is a problem, he can deal with it immediately. You do not have to wait until the end of your precious vacation to have someone drive out from Honolulu to fix a problem. He is also available for advice from which restaurants will fit your group's needs to where to find grocery stores to surfing/swimming/snorkeling spots for all abilities. He is a local; knowledgeable and tuned into our local community on the North Shore. He is thoroughly professional and is only there to problem solve, not invade anyone's privacy. We are both sorry for any misunderstandings, and always work very hard to rectify any and every problem that might arise. Lastly, I have children and grandchildren of my own, and I could not disagree more - this is a wonderful house for children, families, and couples. It is truly a slice of old Hawaii and paradise on earth.

The house, and the small, rural beachfront community in which it is located, are a part of 'Old Hawaii.' Green mountains and fields frame the view behind the home. Hibiscus, plumeria and a fenced front yard with a picket fence grace the street side, while the backyard is a shaded, grassy lawn that opens directly onto a pristine beach. Walk out the screen doors and into the warm, crystal clear Hawaiian waters. Green sea turtles and reef fish glide through the protected, calm waters inside the reef, allowing a leisurely swim or snorkel or the perfect play spot for children. Just outside the reef lies snorkeling, surfing, boating and spear-fishing for the more adventurous.

A Security Deposit will be required at time of signing rental agreement, we require a security deposit which is equal to one months rent. The total rent will need to be paid in full 10 days before move-in.
