Of the 26 charming duplex cottages in the gated Mokuleia Beach Colony, only five actually face the ocean; and this is one of them! You’ll wake to the sound of waves, sit on your open lanai and see nothing but aquamarine water and morning sky. The ocean is right there in front of you, just a few steps away. This beach bungalow was designed in the 1960s and has been decorated by a Hawaiian-born artist, whose paintings of the Mokuleia ocean, sky and landscape hang on the walls.

- The Beach - The Sand Dollar Cottage offers a stunning view of a beach that stretches for miles in either direction; ideal for swimming, walking and snorkeling in the coral reef. You rarely see anyone and have warm water, day and night!

- The Neighborhood - A twelve minute drive down a country road will take you to the famous surfing town of Haleiwa; where you can dine in one of the many restaurants and shop for clothes, local art, shave ice and fresh fish, steaks and produce. The Colony has a beautiful guest-only pool and five minutes up the road towards Ka’ena Point, there’s kite surfing and skydiving.

Smoking strictly prohibited at Mokuleia Beach Colonies, both indoors and outdoors and pets are not permitted on the property. Service animals are permitted only with prior approval of the Mokuleia Beach Colony board. The State of Hawaii prohibits smoking in public parks and at all beaches. There are no areas near the unit designated for smokers. These bans include e - cigarettes.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The space was perfect for a base to go snorkling, explore the North Shore and relaxing in the evenings. We cooked most of our meals and the kitchen was just right. We really enjoyed the proximity to the water. Sunsets were so beautiful. I would stay here again.

Perfect beach front cottage. Only thing I missed was an access to the beach for walking. The cottage was clean, everything in place. The T.V.was a bit challenging, but with help, we figured it out. All in all, it was the perfect North Shore exerience.

The view was five star! The outdoor shower was a treat. The property landscaping was another five star. I didn’t meet the host while there, place is set up to take care of yourself. Geckos were kind of a nuisance, not really them being in and out of the house, but it was they left their waist all over the house and on the bedsheets. The amenities were adequate but dated.. Overall I would stay here again. I gave it a four star if I was a picky person it would’ve been a three star.
Sound of the waves crashing against the wall was amazing (4 star)
There is no beach in front of cottage like the picture on VRBO (2 star)

The drama and beauty of the ocean right there ... steps away from your covered lanai ... lulled to sleep and gently awoken with the rhythmic sound of the waves ... having a sunset dinner while watching the sun sink into the ocean ... or waking up with papaya and kona coffee out on the lanai. This is why we have rented this place for 3 years in a row now. It's not the fanciest unit, but its location right on the ocean is priceless.Now with that being said, I gotta say ... we had a few challenges this time.The biggest setback is that the wi-fi "was fried" ... according to the technician that came to fix it. This time without wi-fi service (2 days) really complicated my client schedule of zoom meetings that I had all lined up for a long time. Cancellations and rescheduling didn't look good on me. Anyway ... Dolores from Hawaii Beach Homes was most helpful, and really tried her best to resolve all this as quickly as possible.Also, this third time around, it was evident that things are starting to fall apart ... shrubs along the parking strip really needed to be trimmed back, as well as other shrubs on the property. The whole pool area needs all new furniture. Those umbrellas will barely make it thru another summer, if at all ... and those layout lounge chairs are close behind. It's just sad to see it begin to run down. I'm hoping they take on a new commitment to keeping it beautiful and maintained.Finally - the prices have gone WAY up, so sadly will not be able to return

This was our second stay here at this magical cottage. The oceanfront location is amazing, the grounds are immaculate, the pool is refreshing, the proximity to Haleiwa and Wahiawa is so convenient. The peace and quiet is so relaxing. A touch of old Hawaii. Simply enchanting.

I’ve been coming to Hawai’i for 40 years (about 15 trips). This was my favorite stay. The property was outstanding, the community was lovely and the location was perfect. The cottage was even better and more roomy than in the photos and exceeded my already high expectations. It was terrific and I highly recommend it!

Whilst the property is aging a little, it is perfect for those who wish to get away to a peaceful and quiet location but still enjoy the sight and sounds of the ocean.The property has everything you need and we absolutely loved it!

Wonderful spot

We stayed for a week in April 2025. Peaceful spot where you can relax to the sound of ocean waves. Cottage is in a wonderful small gated community near the end of the Farrington Hwy. Beautiful nearly empty beaches near by. We did an oceanfront trail ride on horses right next door. Great place if you are looking for something more low key than staying in Waikiki

Superior location with stunning views, we loved relaxing on the lanai enjoying ocean breeze, meals and waves. The courtyard feel and size were perfect for us as we do not enjoy mega resorts. Beds were comfortable and also an enjoy ocean view. The location is perfect to be near enough to many attractions, amazing beaches , eateries, shopping and amenities but away from city chaos.The unit is well supplied, better than stated.The downside for us was overall cleanliness was disappointing and the bathroom is just in desperate need of updates, paint and scrubbing. Beds were nicely comfortable ( no headboards , rusty lamps) all other furniture worn way past reasonable but we spent our days exploring and we're mostly happy to bipass hanging in those areas and crash into bed. Somehow the unit is still lovable and we had an outstanding vacation.

Nice ocean side cottage

We really enjoyed being where we could relax. The cottage and the surrounding area was perfect, getting us away from traffic but leaving us easy access to the things we wanted to do. We would definitely rent again if we make it back.

Vacation get away

The property was very nice and all the people are friendly. Very quiet as well. The unit is right on the water so you get to sit and watch the ocean all day. It was perfect for us.
