I should have read the reviews more thoroughly before booking this place.

Yes, it is in a great location, yes, the concierge is helpful, yes it is clean and modern BUT, the negatives outweighed the positives on this one.

First and foremost, the shower/tub is impossible to get into, due to a very wide ledge in front and a narrow glass door that you have to squeeze through, and for anyone larger than 5' tall and 100 lbs, that could prove to be a challenge unless you are a contortionist. Thank goodness for the bidet.

The bed was uncomfortable, lumpy squeeky and creaky. Not great for someone with a bad back and who tosses and turns...and even more disappointing during our stay was that on our second day they replaced the couch, (which was very comfortable and I had even considered sleeping on it the second night because of the bed), with another that was much smaller, horribly hard and uncomfortable to sit on while watching the TV. Someone probably ordered it from a catalog and never tested the sit, meaning it was totally not for relaxing. Also, the clock on the wall in the living room was dead so we changed the battery instead of just looking at a clock that always said the same time.

The entry into the building through the restaurant is obnoxious because every time you come and go they ask you if you want a meal deal. We did have their breakfast special one day, however, it was awful and I wouldn't recommend it. We did not plan to really cook any meals, we did want to make breakfast in the unit, however, the kitchen (nicely furnished with all high end appliances) looked great, but was poorly stocked if you want to do any sort of cooking. Luckily there was a coffee pot and coffee filters! And, while it had been reported in an earlier review, the door over the microwave was still broken.

For the record, I have stayed in numerous vacation rentals, and each one has had it's quirks. I do it for the extra space (versus a hotel room) however at the price we paid for this stay I may want to reconsider doing it again. 3 days without a shower is not acceptable.

my stay at the carlyle apartment 4D

  • 4 of 5

location is awesome. very nice place but i think the money spent renovating that place could have been used a bit wiser for instance the microwave is set inside a cabinet where you have to lift up the cabinet door and hold it open to access and use the microwave. The bathtub/shower is the most difficult tub i've ever seen to get in and out of; it is so not meant for an elderly person or someone with joint issues; you damn near need a step stool to get in and out of it. nice bathroom though. The t.v was difficult to operate; perhaps instructions should be left on how to operate it. a guest shouldn't have to spend time on figuring out how stuff works. saw a few small undesirable critters running around. more ice trays in the freezer would be nice and invest in a can opener. the money thats charged for cleaning should be put to good use. the sofa should be at least deodorized/fabreezed before each stay and the sofa cushions should be removed and vacuumed in between the pillows and swept for crumbs and anything else thats fallen between the pillows from the previous occupants. its the small things and attention to detail especially in the cleaning department that makes for a great room and stay. the owner need to do a better job at responding to messages. emailed the owner twice while there and not one response back from him. they are quick to respond back when money is involved though. Overall a nice place and would consider staying there again if i had to.

Right in the heart of South Beach

  • 5 of 5

The Carlyle is right in the heart of the action and a great spot from which to explore the rest of South Beach. We walked and biked the south end of the island and could easily link up with tour buses and attractions. Paul made booking the condo easy and answered all our emails very quickly. A great experience.

Overall Disappointing Experience

  • 2 of 5

Thought we would try something different this year for Valentine's weekend by renting a condo. Location is just okay. Convenient to the beach but, not to all the hot spots. Too noisy being just above the restaurant.

When we arrived, we were loaded up with luggage and groceries for the weekend. We could choose to come through the center of all the restaurant patrons with our stuff or come along the side of the building and enter through a back door. The side of the building is less than desirable. Construction and garbage everywhere. You then get in the building and have to lug your suitcases up stairs to get to the "concierge" (sarcasm). You don't get the fob for the elevator until after you check in.

Staff at the desk are merely there to hand out keys and go over check-out time. They know nothing about the unit and make it known that "whatever supplies that are in the unit, are all you get. We don't have extra supplies. It's up to the owner to keep the unit stocked." We knew from the start that making such a statement, must be for a reason. The unit couldn't be any more sparse. Didn't have any of the following: toaster (had to put bagels in oven. Oven had 2 racks inside that don't even belong in oven and don't fit. Literally laying on an angle...crazy), no coffee maker!! Only an expresso maker that no one would want to use, no bar soap in shower, hand soap in bathroom was basically an empty bottle sitting on counter, no dish soap, no dishwasher detergent (NOTHING TO WASH A DISH WITH!!??), not ONE bathroom washcloth??!! Literally had to use a hand towel as a wash cloth. I could go on and on.

After we learned of all the deficiencies in this unit, we were so disappointed in our pick. We immediately went down to the front desk and described all of what was missing in the unit. Guy told me I'd have to reach out to the property manager (who I learned was out of the country but, responsive) to have him contact the desk to get us supplies??!! Unbelievable. We then left the unit to head to the beach. When we returned, there was a roll of paper towel, shower gel and a nasty looking refilled Palmolive bottle. No clue what the soap was inside. Literally looked like white liquid Softsoap. We were very displeased that we weren't simply notified that these mere supplies were at the desk for us. Instead, the guy from the front desk, came in our unit while we were gone. We had made no preparations to secure personal items. Just overall bad exp!!

Couple retreat

  • 5 of 5

This condo was absolutely gorgeous. My husband and I traveled out of town for a quick getaway. We were directly across from the beach and the Carlyle I'd on the strip so there we plenty of restaurants and bars everywhere. We didn't have to drive. There was a parking garage across the street and it was 1$ an hour or valet parking in the front of the condos. We were able to take the south beach bus around south beach for only 25 cents per person each ride. Every one is friendly there. The condo looks like it was recently renovated and looks exactly like the photos. The owner has stackable washer and dryer so you can wash your clothes and beach attire. We enjoyed the area and the comfort of the condo so much that we contacted the owner and asked could we stay and extra night. He simply just deducted the extra night from my deposit. We will definitely stay there again when we return to Miami
