About Jon

Front of rental from the lake

Jon purchased this house in 2004

Why Jon chose Upper Peninsula

I love the area and so do my grandchildren, I built this first and lived in it while I built a house next door.

What makes this house unique

All outdoor activities, we are at the end of a private road so there is virtually no traffic, and my grandkids can play without worring about them. We adjoin the Hiawatha national forest. I love the quietness and solitude!

The cabin was great and the decorations we very nice. Loved the view from the deck.

The eagle's nest was a very nice cabin. The decor was nice and loved the large deck facing the water. Spent a lot of time out there eating lunch and dinner or just watching the water. Went kayaking almost every day and on one trip we where able to see two bald eagles. The only thing that could be improved on is the back bedroom beds are old and not real comfortable. Also to get up to the main living rooms you have to go up a lot of stairs. Was a good workout going up and down.

Owner's Response: Renee, we are glad you all enjoyed your stay at the Eagles Nest. We love kayaking and looking for Eagles, and listening to the Loons. Thanks for the info on the beds as they are in our plans to update to Queen beds before next season. There are some stairs, but that's what gives us that breath taking view. We hope you and your family come back and visit sometime soon! Thanks for staying, the Matteson's

Absolutely Beautiful Setting

  • 5 of 5

The lake is awesome, the Eagles Nest is beautiful and we had perfect weather. The cabin is the top level of a large house, so probably not great if anyone in your party has limited mobility. My only possible complaint would be to suggest a mattress upgrade at some point in the near future.

Great family memories

  • 3 of 5

Your home is beautiful. We loved sitting on the deck and the view was gorgeous! The beds weren't very comfortable and we had to buy a table top charcoal grill because the gas grill was in pretty bad shape. With a few comfortable changes, we would love to come back! Thanks for letting us share your home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at our home. It is a very beautiful quite place. We love setting on the front porch in the morning too, and listing to the Loons sing. It is a beautiful view!! I hope you enjoyed the lake ,and the kayaks and canoe, and all the wonderful sights of the Eastern U.P. Also thanks for letting us know about the grill being in rough shape. We ordered parts today and it will be repaired within the next 2 days. Hope to see you again soon! Thanks again for coming!

Peaceful, up north cabin with a great view!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here over a long weekend in June with 4 adults and 1 toddler. The cabin is beautiful inside and has a great view of the lake from the large patio doors. The lake was quiet when we were there - we only saw a couple boats out. We had easy, scenic drives to Tahquemenon falls, Pictured rocks and St. Ignace to catch the ferry over to Mackinac Island. When we left, our mothers said they wished we had spent a day just relaxing at the cabin! The knotty pine decor was stunning and we had plenty of space. There is a fire pit right along the lake where we enjoyed an evening making s'mores. Unfortunately, we never had time to take advantage of the kayaks & canoe.

The owner called me ahead of our trip to make sure all my questions were answered and to give some recommendations on things to do in the area. He was also very responsive beforehand when I had e-mailed him.

The only thing I wish I had known beforehand was that you need to bring your own paper products. Note that the 2 bedrooms with the individual beds have what I consider to be very soft mattresses. The full size bottom bunk beds are firm mattresses. We did not use the twins on top of the bunks so I don't know about them, but we all found a bed we liked and slept well! We would definitely return.
