FROM THE GUEST BOOK:

LOVE Manzanita and this amazing house! Could not have been better … from the super fun bunk house, to the deck, outdoor shower (my favorite) and sunny weather -- the perfect mini vacation with friends. A great time was had by all! Looking forward to another visit…

Scotia, Riley & Reed (Hood River, OR 9/09.)

Beautiful weather, a stunning home, a short walk to the beach, the cozy wood stove, the bunkhouse, dinner on the deck, bonfires, walks on the beck, good friends, great food, a trip to Oswald West State Park. Thank you very much for the chance to stay in your home.

Paul & Shelley (Hood River, OR 9/09)

…have spent several weeks relaxing & having a wonderful time here at Summer Camp in Manzanita. This is our second visit to Manzanita and we just love it. It is still as quaint as ever and has one of the best beaches along this coast, we think. We will miss Summer Camp and the cool decks & bunkhouse where the kids have hung-out a lot! It has been so relaxing here and we've spent a lot of time reading books and playing all the board games -- including a new one my son now wants to buy 'Settlers of Catan'. Lots of walks on the beach, boogie boarding and hanging-out. We've done several hikes and recommend Neahakanne Mountain on a clear day, Falcon Cover and Ecola Stake Park.

We just wanted to say thank you for extending to us your beautiful summer camp at Manzanita...we all fell in love with it! You have such excellent attention to detail and with two architects and a former architect/designer in our group, we were completely enamored!

The set-up is perfect and the beds were the best I've ever slept in. My 8 year old son said to me as I was tucking him in tonight in his own bed, 'I had three nights of sleeping in the most comfortable bed!' (both of our kids slept in the middle bunks while our friends' kids slept way up high on the top bunks.) I guess it's time we get him a new bed...

You probably heard me say 'wow' when I walked in the front door here… Cape Falcon is a splendid hike. Bonfires on the beach with s'mores!!! Thank you for sharing this comfortable home with us.

About Peg Bogard

We grew up on the East Coast enjoying the beaches of New England and New Jersey. We wanted to share our love of the beach and ocean with our children and friends. A vacation home on the coast is the perfect college investment tool that allows us to enjoy our savings tool and share it with others. We hope you also enjoy your time at summer camp surrounded by friends and family discovering what a special place the Oregon coast is, especially Manzanita.

Peg Bogard purchased this house in 2009

Why Peg Bogard chose Northern Coast

Manzanita is a special small town by the sea. This family and dog friendly town makes it easy to relax, slow down and enjoy the coast. We wanted to focus our time at the coast on the natural beauty and time spent playing with friends and family. We spend our time on the beach, on our bikes, on the deck and playing cards or board games. There are a few cute shops and delicious meals to be had in Manzanita, just on a small scale that lets you appreciate the care with which the proprietors have chosen their wares and foodstuffs. Manzanita is truly a pearl in the midst of the rugged Oregon coast.

What makes this house unique

A great beach, small/quite town, great windsurfing, great hiking, cozy interior, wood stove, large deck for outdoor dining/hanging-out. A special place to spend time with family & friends. A high-quality craftsman home.

Outstanding stay with family

  • 5 of 5

Camp Manzanita provides a great venue for hosting family gatherings. We had grandparents, parents and kids in our group, all with plenty of options for sleeping. The kids liked having their own space. It is a very close walk to the beach. When it is rainy, there are tons of games to play. We have stayed twice following a child's graduation and would love to return again.

Clean & very well kept

  • 5 of 5

I grew up in Oregon and have stayed in many beach houses. This one is by far the best. Everything was very clean and you can tell the owner takes great pride in this property. The walk to the beach is 5 minutes or less and the bunkhouse was a big hit with my kids. We would defienately stay here again and recommend this property to our friends and family!!

Great location, very spacious but still cozy, well-appointed

  • 5 of 5

We had a seamless experience from booking to checkout. The property is exactly as described. It was incredibly quiet, light filled and very functional in every aspect. The kitchen was well-stocked, they have plenty of linens, and loads of firewood. It's a quick walk to the end of the road to reach the beach access. You can also walk a few short blocks to town. The outdoor shower was also handy to rinse off sandy bits before heading inside. Great patio too for grilling or just soaking up some sun (yes it was really sunny while we were there!). I highly recommend the property and we will certainly be back!

a full heart

  • 5 of 5

This was our yearly family vacation on the Oregon Coast and it couldn't have been more perfect at Camp Manzanita! It is an understatement to say that the home is gorgeous and has absolutely everything you need, and things you never thought you needed: fully stocked kitchen, great creature comforts, plenty of beds and extra bedding and pillows, stereo system, TV with cable, games, outdoor toys, giant woodpile for fires, awesome outdoor shower, huge wrap around deck, and on and on. We've found most Oregon Coast rentals to be 'bare bones' and definitely over-packed this time around. Every time one of us asked 'I wonder if there is a _______?' the answer was yep!

Aside from the ample creature comforts and attention to details of the home and bunkhouse, the slightly hidden 'public access' trail right up the street that leads directly to the downtown was a happy find .. 5 minute walk at best! And then just steps down the road the beach awaits -- great walks with our pups, fishing, nightly campfires, someone running up the road to the house for something we may have wanted or forgotten was a snap, early morning sea dollar hunts, and kites. If there is a definition of a perfect vacation, this was it for us. As the Mom of the bunch, I had a heavy heart saying good-bye.

The owners were also very responsive to one minor issue and that attention was greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for sharing this home and experience! I think we found our new favorite place.

P.S. We left a big bag of marshmellows in the pantry and a large back of freshly picked frozen blueberries in the freezer. Hope the next family enjoyed the 'finds'!

Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent weekend on the Coast! The house provided everything we needed. It was clean, comfortable and beautiful. Perfect location - a short walk to the beach and to the market. Margaret was a great host and answered our emails quickly. We hope to return again soon! Thank you!
