Playing Hooky is beautifully remodeled, modern and airy -- just steps away from all of the shops and restaurants of Manzanita and a short walk to the beach. There is space for your entire group to spread out, with two living spaces and a large patio geared up for outdoor fun! Don't forget to bring your dog, they are always welcome at Playing Hooky! Monthly rentals are very common, significant discounts are available.

It was a great set-up for our family including our dog. Loved all the details - dog towels, beach gear, well appointed kitchen including spices. Very helpful welcome manual and the home was very clean. We can’t wait to book again.

Perfect, relaxing, getaway for friends

Our friend group and dog spent a long weekend here, and it was just the best experience. Alia and Jason were so generous and the welcome giftbag was such a sweet touch. It was so peaceful, we actually god significant rest and relaxation time, and it was close enough to the beach / Manzanita shops that we could take the dog there for beach run-around crazy time. Could not have asked for a better experience and will be back again. I would go again right now if I could!

Perfect beach get-away for our family!

We loved this home (so thoughtfully decorated and stocked and so pretty and clean)! Bright, cheery, tons of windows, comfy beds, and an amazing bonus fun room upstairs! So close to the main street of Manzanita (shops, restaurants, etc) and only 5 minute walk to the beach. Location was so peaceful and quiet - you could hear the ocean from the yard. We also loved the patio and fire pit. Owners were kind and helpful - you could tell they put lots of time and love into their home!! Were we all sad to leave this piece of paradise.

Great pet and family getaway!

We loved everything about this home - location, walkability, comfortable linens and mattresses. This is one of the most well appointed rentals we have ever stayed in - will definately stay again!

Great Stay in Manzanita!

My partner, one year old, and dog stayed at Playing Hooky. We had to cut our trip short because our daughter was sick. But, Alia and Justin were very accommodating and understanding. The house was spotless and had everything we needed to have a great stay. The playroom upstairs was our daughter’s favorite spot in the house! It was stocked with toys, books, games, and provided lots of space for her to run around. We loved the landscaping and how close the house was to the beach and Main Street with shops and food. We loved our stay and will definitely be back!

Perfect Family Getaway in the Heart of Manzanita

Our stay at Alia and Jason’s house was absolutely perfect! The location in Manzanita is ideal—just a short walk to great coffee shops, restaurants, and only minutes from the beach. It made exploring the town so easy and enjoyable for our entire family. The house itself was fantastic. We loved the spacious, open concept living area, which made it easy to relax and spend time together, and the upstairs loft was a great bonus. Our daughter absolutely loved it here—she gave it 100 thumbs up, which says it all! Alia and Jason were amazing hosts—responsive, friendly, and accommodating. We felt right at home from the moment we arrived. This lovely house is the perfect getaway, and we’ll definitely be returning for another stay. Highly recommend!

Great location, wonderful floor plan, and relaxing patio

We had a wonderful stay at Playing Hooky. Having stayed in numerous vacation rentals over the years, our family agreed that this home is one of our top favorites. The floor plan was fantastic, particularly the open-concept living space and the upstairs loft that our teenage son claimed as his own. The outdoor patio was another highlight; despite being adjacent to a street, the owners have cleverly designed it to be a private, relaxing area. The location of the home and Manzanita itself were both fantastic. We loved being within walking distance of coffee shops, restaurants, and just a few minutes from the beach. As lifelong Texans, this was our first time visiting the Oregon coast. We considered Astoria, Manzanita, and Cannon Beach, and we are thrilled with our choice of Manzanita. It’s a charming town with plenty of dining options and far enough from the hustle and bustle of the towns to the north. It was also driveable to Cannon Beach, which had few more dining options. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We hope to return someday!

The perfect getaway

This house was amazing! You know it’s a great place when the kids are pouting or crying that we have to check out! Location is great…quiet area with laid back feel yet still close to all the great towns around it like Cannon Beach, Seaside and Tillamook. Love that this little town and it’s beach isn’t overrun with people Can walk to grocery store, the beach or shops in a few minutes. The house is spotless and has everything you could need! Bikes, beach towels, corn hole, back pack beach chairs and even a skateboard waiting in the garage and lots of games inside. We had so much to keep us entertained. Tastefully decorated and bright and airy with lots of comfort. The place is even better than the pictures. A favorite for our family was the loft for a second living area. The kids had a blast hanging out up there and it gave us adults time to relax and unwind. There’s even a little bar setup for a nightcap or after dinner drink. Fire pit was a hit too and they had a s’mores kit waiting for us. So nice to have a place with no issues and the hosts were super fast with communication and were amazing to deal with! We can’t wait to come back again. Seriously this place is an 11/10.

Family Time

The property is exactly how the pictures portray it. We felt immediately at home walking through the door and being able to have our dog with us was the best! Our host was responsive and so nice. Delightful details

We had a lovely time! We’ve stayed at many rentals over the years, but Alia and Jason have put a lot of thought into the details. From the first bundle of fire wood to the s’mores fixings, and beach wagon. Things that made us smile and made heading down to the beach that much easier. Can’t beat the location too!

We live just outside of Portland and Manzanita is our happy place! We love to travel the US and the world with our two boys. We bought our Manzanita home as a weekend getaway and remodeled it down to the studs to create a bright, modern retreat for our family and others to enjoy.

Having lived in central Amsterdam for several years, and absolutely loving the town of Manzanita, we searched for a home where we would be able to walk to everything in town as well as the beach. We also love modern, light-filled spaces and this home has incredible natural light thanks to it's south-facing setting.

Our home is a unique blend of light and airy while also feeling cozy and comfortable, with many spots to curl up and read a book or relax after a long walk on the beach. Due to it's large open kitchen, living and dining space it's also a fantastic place to host friends and family.
