About Mark Stone

My wife and I travel to Kona, 3 - 4 times a year and stay in one of our two condo's. Currently living in San Dimas, we plan on retiring in Kona in the next few years, hopefully sooner.

Mark Stone purchased this condo in 2008

Why Mark Stone chose Kailua-Kona

I take pride in Customer Service. I treat people as I would like to be treated. I am easily reached and take care of business in a timely manner. Take a moment to read my reviews, you'll see that my past guests were pleased with their service.

After visiting the other islands, we fell in love with the Big Island. The Hawaiian culture and slower pace is where we would like to retire and hang our hat. Living in Los Angeles for 50 years has worn us out. I can't imagine driving without any traffic. Where people are very friendly, you can still leave your doors unlocked and enjoy the uncrowed beaches.

Living on the Big Island is about as close as it gets to being in heaven. The weather is outstanding, tempeture perfect. I myself love sport fishing, scuba diving, boating and just about every water-sport there is making Kona a perfect place to live.

There are plenty of beachs close by and many more surrounding the Island. You just need to explorer. The underwater sealife is simply incredible, from Sea Turtles to Manta Rays, Black sand White sand beaches. If you just want some R and R, then you've came to the right place.

What makes this condo unique

This is a very exclusive Condo that has been completely remodeled. I love the master bedroom's jacuzzi tub / Travertine Walkin shower.

Nice Find

This beach house was a great find. Mark was a very responsive host to the few questions we had come up. The home is very clean, well stocked and has an amazing view of the ocean. Thank you for sharing your awesome place with us.

If you were any closer to the ocean, you'd be swimming

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stay at Kona Luana for a month every year, and every year it gets better and better. The location is perfect -- about a 7 minute walk from Honl's Beach and a 10 minute walk from downtown Kailua-Kona, and a few minutes drive from grocery stores, Keauhou, etc. There's dedicated parking at the foot of the stairs, which is really convenient (there are condos in Kona where the parking is quite a hike from the actual unit). Inside the home, the kitchen has absolutely everything you'll need, plus a full size gas grill outside. Every time we've ever thought, "Oh, I wonder if we have..." we look around the kitchen and find it! It's incredibly well equipped. Upstairs the two bedrooms/bathrooms are tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean; you really do feel like you're staying at a resort. The owner, Mark, is responsive to any questions or concerns, and his housekeepers are ready to assist at a moments notice if there's anything amiss.

If that was everything Kona Luana had to offer, it would be a bargain. But on top of everything, you also get one of the most amazing views anywhere along Ali'i Drive! You are right on the water, and the sound of the waves permeates the entire home. It is heavenly! We've see whales, dolphins, turtles, and even a manta ray from the lanais. You'll look at the photos here and think you know what to expect, but nothing prepares you for it. We stayed at many different condos in Kona before finding Kona Luana, and we can save you some time: THIS IS THE BEST!

We really enjoyed all the amenities this condo had to offer: full kitchen, two and a half baths, two beautiful balconies with a gorgeous view of the ocean. It was wonderful to listen to the ocean at night, or any time for that matter. We enjoyed watching the boats, the whales and dolphins from the lanai. The proximity to downtown was great for walking. I can’t think of anything that could have made our experience better. Certainly a very memorable 40th anniversary vacation we shall always cherish.

Fantastic Condo

  • 5 of 5

I cannot give higher praise for this condo. It is exactly as pictured. The side by side layout of the condo meant we heard very little neighbor noise. The ocean being so close helped drown out road noise on Ali'i Drive (and it was wonderful to fall asleep to the sound of the waves at night).

The furniture is in great condition, as are all the kitchen appliances. The only key kitchen item I found to be missing was a baking sheet. But I was able to pick one up some disposable ones at Wal-Mart.

This condo is in a very convenient location for the restaurant district of Ali'i Drive. My husband, my 4-year old daughter and I walked there a few times. It's less than a mile away. It is also within close driving distance to shopping centers and strip malls. The condo was well stocked with beach accessories (boogie boards, chairs, coolers, etc).

The owner, Mark, was SO wonderful to work with. The few times I had questions I was able to text him and I received answers extremely quickly. He is everything a renter wants in an owner. I would absolutely rent from him again and will encourage any friends and family traveling to the Big Island to rent this condo. I give this rental 10 stars. 5 simply isn't enough praise.

Great views from downstairs and upstairs master suite. Close to town and beaches. Lovely!

  • 5 of 5

This place is great! The views are spectacular. You are right on the ocean. We left our master bedroom sliding door open at night (there’s a screen door and ceiling fan to keep you cool) to fall asleep to the sound of the waves coming to shore. Loved that! We were there during Thanksgiving week. It was my first time cooking Thanksgiving dinner in a kitchen other than my own. They had everything I needed to cook a great meal. We ate every meal that I cooked on the upstairs balcony table overlooking the ocean. Don’t forget to eat out too though as the restaurants in Kona are great. The best local food = Big Island Grill. The Fish Hopper was great too - and make sure you have a dessert. The key lime mango cheesecake is awesome!

The owners of this upstairs, triplex apartment also provided lots of great items for the beach - which are all close by. We started every morning with a swim and body surfing at Magic Sands State Park which is just up the street. Awesome! The apartment has a large closet with boogie boards, beach mats, beach towels, an umbrella, beach chairs, and even sun block!

The WiFi and cable were great. The apartment homey and nice. They provide AC upstairs and down in each bedroom and the kitchen, which was great for the hotter days. At night it cooled though, so open up the sliding doors and enjoy the sweet Hawaiian air.

My only suggestion for the owners is to have a pillow top mattress in the master suite. The bed was a little hard for me. My husband loved it though (isn’t that always the way?) ha ha.

It was a great week-one we will never forget. Highlights = hike up Mauna Kea overlook (elev 9,500) to watch the sunset and visit to the observatory, hikes in Hawaii Volcanos National Park, looking into the caldera and lava show at night over Kilauea, the black sand beach and watching/swimming with sea turtles, Akaka Falls hike and drives around the big island exploring places like South Point. Of course the best thing is getting in the water and enjoying snorkeling at Captain Cook and any water-related fun. Enjoy!
