Relaxation, a nap in the hammock, a sunset walk on the waterfront, meals with a view of the Neuse River, kayaking, shopping, and dining in Oriental, Beaufort or New Bern.
Our first time to this cozy, comfortable, wonderful place. Terry has thought of everything you could possibly want or need for a wonderful vacation. Beds are super comfy with nice linens. The house and porches are super clean. The kayaks were tons of fun. The new dock is fantastic we caught 70 plus crabs in the crab traps also provided by Terry. Fishing was a blast too. Can't wait to go back this is a truly a special place.
We had the opportunity to recently stay at Journey's End and thoroughly enjoyed. Terry was very helpful and accommodating and takes great care of her treasure on the Neuse River. There are plenty of places to relax indoors and out and lots of options for activities. We enjoyed fishing and crabbing off the dock along with viewing sunsets and wildlife. Our whole family was able to enjoy the kayaks. We ventured over to Oriental and New Bern as well as a couple ferry trips over to Beaufort for fishing, pirate ship fun, and Shackleford Banks to swim and see the horses. We had a truly unforgettable time as a family and we hope to return soon. The cottage had several features that reminded me of a cottage my family frequented while growing up in Wisconsin. A place where I developed some of my most fond memories, and hope to continue to recreate for my own family.
Journey's End is one of my favorite places to be. I have been going there for over 20 years, almost every year and sometimes twice a year. It is a peaceful and beautiful setting; the cottage, which dates to 1908, is utterly charming, and has the appeal of its vintage, with heart pine paneling in every room, but is modern in all ways to make staying there comfortable in all seasons. The sunsets are fabulous, looking out over the Neuse River, from the bluff that the cottages perches. Good for bird watching. A great place to contemplate and feel serene
This is my new very favorite vacation spot!!! I went here with girlfriends, and we did not want to leave this wonderful place! I cannot wait to go back here with my family and with other friends!
The house is on a quiet, peaceful street under a canopy of old trees and sits high on a bluff above the Neuse River, so wide here that I had the feeling of being on the ocean. The house is a wonderful combination of old world charm, modern amenities and tasteful decor, including beautiful antiques, comfortable seating, and special, fun, creative, interesting touches everywhere we looked. The owner is an artist, and, apparently, a fine and thoughtful one. In my bedroom, there was an antique sink, not only beautiful, but convenient. Bathing inside was an option, but everyone loved using the very nice, fun outdoor shower.
The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and beyond, the house and yard very well maintained. We loved eating on the wonderful, glassed/screened front porch, enjoying the stunning sunsets from the spacious, well-built dock, exploring the charming town of Oriental nearby, and taking the ferry across the Neuse.
This house is the perfect place to just BE, enveloped in nature, walk or bike the quiet streets, kayak or sail, and next time, I want to explore the many great places nearby, including Atlantic Beach and the historic towns of New Bern, Bath, Oriental, and Beaufort.
I highly recommend Journey's End!! We got to take a look at the house next door, Call My Bluff, which also belongs to the same owner. It has its own unique, special character, equally charming, equally well done. We plan to rent both!
We have been to Journey's End numerous times and love it even more each time. We always feel like "Looking for Waldo" as we eagerly try to find "things that have changed". The owner is always adding amenities to enhance the enjoyment of staying there. We find the location to be perfect with the ferry next door to take you to the beach and Oriental close by. With the dock, the hammock, the lush back yard, and/or the back porch, it has the best views of the sunset. The neighborhood is great for walking and bicycling. The kitchen is well equipped and large enough for two people or more to share in cooking. If there was one word to describe Journey's End, it would be Cozy. Once one has been there, one can not help but feel like this is the cottage one has always dreamed of.
I rented this wonderful river cottage with my son and a couple of friends while we did some guide fishing out of Oriental. Very comfortable, well appointed and remarkably spacious cottage that we all thoroughly enjoyed. The owner takes great pride in making sure you have all you need to feel at home and to enjoy your stay! We put out crab pots the first day and in 48 hours we feasted on about 18 of those beauties. The views from the bluff and the up river sunsets are amazing. Can't wait for another chance to stay here!
Nearby village of Oriental offers a variety of Restaurants.
