Estate Mandahl House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Please see our other property also, #139712.

Although this cottage itself is nestled into sublimely quiet surroundings (with easy access to beaches and hiking trails), it is also just minutes from more active pursuits. The newly completed Concordia Eco Complex, with its splendid seaside setting (bar, restaurant, grocery store, snorkel rental, day -trips, and yoga/massage facility) is just 0.8 miles up the road and the town of Coral Bay, with its many attractions (water sports, horseback riding, shopping, restaurants, nightlife and more) is less than a 10 minute drive away.

The nearest beach is 0.3 miles away. While a rental car is recommended (for optimal touring of the rest of the island), the Salt Pond Bay bus stop (servicing both Coral Bay and Cruz Bay is just a three minute walk away, making your stay possible without one.

About The Owner

In 1988, my wife and I bought a timeshare property at Bluebeards Castle in St. Thomas and fell in love with St. John during our many trips to the island. It always our dream as we neared retirement to buy a property on St. John. It is now our pleasure to share it with you.

The Owner purchased this house in 2009

Perfect and Picturesque Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Lameshur Cottages was absolutely perfect for my husband and I and our two teenage daughters. We have stayed in many beautiful resorts but were really looking for something "off the beaten path" and much more laid-back. Although this type of vacationing may not be for everyone, we absolutely loved the very peaceful atmosphere and beautiful views of the mountain that we woke up to every morning. The cottage was adorable and really had everything that we needed and we love that the owners provide everything you need for the beach, including beach towels, chairs, snorkeling gear etc. We do like to kayak but we didn't happen to use the kayak on this trip but will definitely use it the next time back : ) We were very glad that we rented a car because we were able to see so many things all around the island that we wouldn't have if we took public transportation. We did go into Cruz Bay a few times because, of course having teenagers with us, they like a little more "hustle and bustle" but it was so nice to come back to the peaceful cottage. Liz, the owner gave us some very helpful advice on places to go and see. We really enjoyed the local live music at the restaurants in the Coral Bay Area. Aqua Bistro Restaurant was one of our favorites. Liz also suggested Monday open mic night at Café Concordia and that was our favorite evening (great food, atmosphere and such talented musicians)! Thank you again Liz (and Russ...even though we didn't get to meet him in person)

Like a Maine cottage -- only in St John! -- so pretty much perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for two days at Lameshur Cottages -- and extension of five night stay elsewhere -- because, after all, who really wants to leave and head back north in January? Lucky us, Russ, the owner allowed us to rent for two nights (a real hard thing to find in the high season) AND allowed for early check in (so no having to carry around my left over food in the jeep!) . The cottage was really cute. very beach, some lovely original paintings my Russ's wife, two very comfortable beds with mosquito nets and ceiling fans-- the cottage is very open and airy -- most of the windows are screened so you fall asleep to the sounds of the coquis. One thing i would like to comment on - and this will take a longer stay-- the library of books is amazing-- I have never seen such a collection of literature in one house -- both 'best sellers' and then a really extensive selection of excellent contemporary and classic literature. There is a washer and dryer in the unit we stayed in -- that was really nice to be able to dry our damp bathing suits before heading for the ferry. There is a hot tub as well -- though we did not use it with such a short stay. For an affordable, comfortable place this really cannot be beat -- Thank you Russ! (and is it okay if i borrow a book sometime? )

Beautiful cottage overlooking the National Park

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in Liz and Russ's home. We had all of the windows open so that the nightly breeze (at times quite gusty!) and nature sounds lulled us to sleep. After a day at the beach snorkeling and swimming, it was just as wonderful to come back to the relaxing Lampshur home. The home is well maintained and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the collection of reggae music and sitting out on the deck, and the hot tub with our morning coffee.

The location was perfect for us. We enjoy the quiet side of the island. The cottage is just down the road from Salt Pond Bay and Little Lampshur bays, two of our favorites. It doesn't take long (20 min tops) to get to the North side bays like Maho and Jumbie. Just watch out for the goats, chickens, and donkeys, and the little dog up the road!

Thank you Liz and Russ for opening up your home to us!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words . That is why we named this cottage " PEACE and quiet". It is truly a amazing little valley inside the NATIONAL PARK . Falling to sleep to the sound of tree frogs at night is just one of those unique experiences St. John's has to offer.

Relaxing vacation in a beautiful location!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived late in the evening, and although we have been to the island before, this was our first time staying in the Coral Bay area. Russ met us at the driveway and guided us to the donkey corral/parking lot (this is why we love St. John!). He took us up to the cottage and showed us around, got us situated, gave us hints. He and Liz, who we didn't have the opportunity to meet as she was on the Mainland, live down the hill from the cottage so if you need anything or have an issue they are there to help. However, not intrusive in any way.

The cottage itself is 2 bedrooms - one smaller one off the kitchen and then the main bedroom that leads to the deck and hot tub, bbq, loungers. Although there is a wifi hotspot below the house on a path, we were able to receive the signal at the cottage on the deck and in the smaller bedroom (had to do work :().

The kitchen has a full size fridge, gas stove, microwave, sink, 1 gallon of drinking water (so pick some up at the store), enough pots, pans, utensils, etc to make do. We had breakfasts "in" and 2 dinners so it was fine for us.

There is a washer and dryer as well. And the bathroom was lovely - the shower felt outdoors without being outdoors.

There are ceiling fans and a big floor fan and when we were there, we had great breezes and never felt uncomfortable. Lovely bedding and a very comfortable bed; lots of towels - beach and otherwise.

We really liked the location, but it wouldn't be for everyone. A car is necessary - there is a bus stop nearby, but you would miss so much of the island without a car. Beaches were very close. But it is about 10 minutes from Coral Bay and then those "8 tuff miles" from Cruz Bay. So you need to be comfortable with driving.

There are food markets in Coral Bay and along the road to Lameshur. As well great restaurants in Coral Bay. Plus Concordia is very close - great restaurant and views.

We would definitely recommend if you are a hiking, snorkeling, sun loving, fairly fit, adventure type traveller! And that is why we picked St. John in the first place!!

Overall, just right!

  • 5 of 5

Russ and Liz are the best hosts. They are extremely friendly, and always encouraged my never ending questions!

This was a solo trip for me, but the cottage was large enough for a family. The accommodations didn't skip a beat, and It felt like home, except with the added bonus of a hot tub! There was a full kitchen, washer/dryer, living room space, screened in porch, basically everything you would want and need.

The cottage was nicely located on the south end of the island for my adventuring and snorkeling needs.

Nearby, Cafe Concordia has some of the best food on the island if you are a foodie like me. And Tourist Trap is a great lunch spot with excellent homemade ice cream.

I'd definitely come back to stay at Lameshur Cottages.

Beautiful, family-friendly vacation cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My family (me, husband, almost four-year-old daughter) just spent a week at Lameshur Cottage. It's hard to describe how much we loved it. The house is charming and well-equipped. We loved the breezes that blew through the many windows and taking showers in the (almost) open-air bathroom. And the hot tub was just what we needed after a long day of hiking, snorkeling, etc. It's also very kid-friendly. Liz and Russ have snorkel gear, beach chairs, beach towels, sand toys, etc. -- everything you need for a great family vacation. This is a wonderful place to stay if (like us) you're not into resorts.

Owner's Response: When Liz and I bought property 5 years ago our "original" business plan was to rent this cottage to families of 4 . We were amazed that it seemed no one seemed to rent to children. Over the years we found out WHY . Mainly it is because of water usage. A family uses the washing machine EVERY day .All water on island is collected on roofs into cisterns . Most cottage and Villa owners can not afford to have water hauled in at $400 a truck load. Secondly children damage property .Not so much on purpose but just being kids .Banging doors just to hear the sound , getting on top of washer and dryer and tearing down lanterns while Mom and Dad in HOT TUB and throwing things around inside cottage and breaking television . Finally St. John is a very hilly island . As much as we try to provide a "safe" environment with railings and gates it is a tough environment for parent and child. It is a shame but it is the REAL WORLD .Some of our earlier reviews rave about the educational value of the snorkeling , kayaking and hiking environment we provide and that is all true . It is sad that it is hard for owners to provide this.
