The space
Take a step back in time when you enter one of the original country homesteads in the Clendenin, West Virginia area. The 1887 Farm House sits on hand cut stones and was constructed with rough cut lumber from the surrounding hills. Sleeps up to 5 guests with two bedrooms (one queen, one full, one twin bed), full bathroom, and living room.

The dining room sits to the back of the house and has games, puzzles, a coffee maker, microwave, sink, toaster, and mini fridge. WIFI is available too. There is no TV which provides a welcome break for many families.

Comfortable beds, beautiful views, quiet country evenings for a peaceful night’s rest-frogs chirping, bats flying, stars, fireflies (in summer). Relax on the porch swing as chickens and ducks wonder the property.

Guests are welcome to take a hike up in the woods, play in the creek that winds in front and back of the property, walk the grounds, inspect the 1940’s outhouse, see the old Post Office, and explore the century old dairy cow barn.

Guests can also take a short walk up the road and visit the cave-home to the earliest settler Gabriel. This is a perfect place for families and friends to visit, explore local restaurants, and take in all that the Elk River Trail State Park has to offer-swimming, kayaking, biking, hiking, and ATV trails.

A 6th guest can be added with a roll away bed for an extra $20/night.

Take the back road to New River National Park.

Take A drive into the West Virginia State Capital-just 25 minutes from Charleston, WV.

Homemade breakfast is included each morning with this reservation and all dietary restrictions are considered.

Guest access
Guest's have access to two separate bedrooms, a living space and a full bathroom. The space also includes a microwave, and kitchen sink, toaster, coffee maker, plus, mini fridge. We have an outdoor oven guests can use that has a stove top, a propane grill. a small charcoal grill and a fire pit-just ask about what you need and we will get you all set up. Guests are welcome to walk the grounds of the property where they will find an old town post office, a 1940's era out house (fully functioning), a historic barn with some friendly chickens and ducks and two fields awaiting strawberries in May. Guests are also welcome to take a short walk up the road and visit the cave.
Other things to note
The 1887 Farm House is part of the certified bed and breakfast, Country Road House and Berries, opened by John and Angela Born in 2016. Angela is a proud member of the West Virginia Bed and Breakfast Association. Your breakfast is included in the reservation.

Also please keep in mind this is a century-old farm surrounded by many acres of land and woods. We love visitors. But not every single one of them is welcome! Try as we might, we cannot keep out every errant fly, wasp, mouse, or stinkbug seeking food and shelter. Thx for understanding!

Delightful!

This little farmhouse provided all the charm and warmth needed for our weekend stay. We were in for a family wedding and loved this choice for something different! The linens, beds and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom provided cozy towels, soap and shampoo necessities. The farmhouse was historically old and but inviting. The absolute treat was the breakfasts provided each morning. We LOVED it! The homemade cinnamon and strawberry (from their farm!) muffins were delicious. We also enjoyed chatting with the other guests over breakfast. Highly recommend!

A Peaceful Escape and Genuine Hospitality

This bed and breakfast is a hidden gem. It's quiet, cozy, and the ideal place to unplug-literally. We spent the evening enjoying outside in the fresh, crisp air listening to the soft clucking of the chickens and watching ducks waddle through the yard. The homemade breakfast was a highlight. Fresh eggs from their hens and sweet strawberries picked from their farm. The hosts were warm, welcoming, and clearly put heart and soul into everything they do. If you're looking a real break from the noise, this place delivers. My only regret was forgetting a jar of homemade jam.
