New Villa with Pool and Amazing Sea Views / Cinque Terre

Bedrooms 4
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Villa, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Villa Maggiano is located in Maggiano, a small hillside fraction of La Spezia that dominates the city and it’s beautiful gulf. Surrounded by olive groves, this typical Ligurian farmhouse is the result of a two year restoration process where the owners have maintained all of the homes original features. During the restoration process they slowly discovered wood beams, stone walls and brick archways which had been covered by years of plaster and paint. These original features have now become one of the property’s highlights along with it’s beautiful views of the Poets Gulf from almost every window. A beautiful pool was just installed in Spring of 2013 making the property even more exclusive and we are continuously making upgrades to the property.

From the villa's spacious terrace and manicured garden, guests may enter directly into the ground floor. Upon entering the ground floor to the left is a spacious living room that has two large sofas and a flat screen television with cable and movies in English. Just beside the living room is the dining area which is furnished with an antique table and seats up to 8 guests. To the right of the dining room is the delightful country style kitchen which is fully equipped with a dishwasher,a professional gas stove top and electric oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and a small cantina.

From the dining room the staircase leads guests up to the first floor which can also be reached directly through the villas front door. The first floor is composed of two bedrooms and one bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a king size bed (1.80x1.90 cm) and the second bedroom has two singles which can be made together upon request. From all of the beds there is a wonderful sea view. The spacious bathroom on this floor has a double vanity and a spacious shower.

The second floor of the villa is composed of two bedrooms each with their own spacious ensuite bathrooms. The “master suite” is very large and has a king size bed from which guests can enjoy a beautiful sea view. The master suite’s bathroom has a characteristic Victorian style tub with a hand held shower. From the fourth bedroom , guests will still enjoy a sea view from the king size bed and the ensuite bathroom has a double vanity and a spacious shower.

Just outside of the villa's front door is the entrance to the separate laundry room which has been furnished with a large washing machine, a dryer, an ironing board/iron, a linen closet and an antique marble sink.

The outdoor area patio area has been furnished with a large stone table that seats up to 12 people and stone benches with colorful cushions to relax outdoors and we have just finished a wonderful gazebo in 2016 for shade and dining al fresco in the summer evenings.

The owners have used many precious antiques along with high quality materials like oak floors, travertine, and handmade tiles to create a comfortable country atmosphere with all of today’s modern comforts. The villa has wireless internet throughout. There is also an herb garden for those who enjoy cooking and cooking classes can be arranged directly at the villa upon request.

Just beside the villa, is an antique pathway, that either leads down to La Spezia or farther up the hills with different points of interest such as the grotta of Bocca Lupara and nice hikes for some good exercise with a view!

The actual towns of the CinqueTerre may be reached from the villa either by car, by ferry, or by train. The train station in La Spezia is only a five minute drive from the villa and trains depart almost every hour for the CinqueTerre. The ferry dock is also only about 10 minutes from the villa and is probably the most panoramic alternative.

Although the CinqueTerre towns are better known, also the towns of Portovenere, Lerici, Fiascherino, and Montemarcello are of the beaten path and all well worth visiting and within 20-30 minutes by car from the villa. Lucca, Florence, and Pisa are also all easy day trips. Many guests also enjoy taking a trip to the Carrara marble quarries and discovering the mountains which are less than one hour from the villa.

The owner has been catering to foreign travelers for over 10 years and has an extra touch at acknowledging some of the seemingly small details that make ALOT of difference when traveling away from home. She takes extra care in providing a house book full of local information and activities and is always available for any special requests such as cooking courses at the villa, meals prepared at the villa by a local cook, and an American tour guide specialized in the local CinqueTerre pathways, local museums, and art cities.

Notes: For those reserving Villa Maggiano, the city of La Spezia requires a tourist tax of €1.5/per day per person max. 5 days which will be collected on arrival day and consigned to local authorities. A copy of your passport is also required at check in and final cleaning costs of 180 euros will be collected upon arrival.

About Sarah Ferrari

My name is Sarah Ferrari and I have been living in Italy for over 18 years. 'I found my love in Portofino' husband Franco, from La Spezia almost 15 years ago. I was so lucky to move to this beautiful area of Italy which offers so many alternatives for an outdoorsey like myself. Villa Maggiano has been in my husband's family for over one hundred years believe it or not!! We have just finished restoring the property after two years of hard work. We truly put our heart and soul into the project and think that guests will appreciate our efforts in creating a comfortable homey atmosphere for a memorable Italian vacation!!

Sarah Ferrari purchased this villa in 1800

Why Sarah Ferrari chose La Spezia

Seeing the villa perched on the hillside with it's wonderful views, we felt like we had to restore it into a vacation spot for others to enjoy. We love our city and it's surroundings and felt like this was the perfect place to fully enjoy what it has to offer.

What makes this villa unique

The villa is perched amongst olive groves in a peaceful atmosphere with amazing sea views from every window yet close to many points of interest such as CinqueTerre, Portovenere, Lerici, Lucca, Portofino and Pisa. Guests will enjoy living the truly Italian lifestyle in this wonderful villa yet they will be able to enjoy daily outings hiking, biking, swimming or just enjoying the scenery!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful property with amazing view and well situated for local area

  • 5 of 5

We have just enjoyed a wonderful week at Villa Maggiano. The property is beautiful, every thing is of the highest quality and Sarah has made the home both stylish and comfortable. All the bedrooms have wonderful views and the outside space is perfect for relaxing, enjoying meals and swimming.

We were attracted to the house for it's proximity to the Cinque Terre which is an easy train journey. We did enjoy some wonderful hikes but Sarah also recommended other areas and attractions we might like which we would not have found without her.

In fact, although the house is lovely it was Sarah herself who made our visit. She spent time with us upon our arrival (and in e-mails before) and recommended areas, restaurants and markets to visit. This completed our trip and we saw and experienced things we would not have found on our own.

Hike in the Cinque Terre. The Volastra from Corniglia to Manarola, although long (2.5 hours) is incredible. Visit Portovenere and have lunch on Palmeiria Island, go to the beach at Forte Dei Marmie and then come back to Villa Maggiano and enjoy a swim and the excellent view!

Thank you Sarah!

Amazing First Week in Italy!

  • 5 of 5

Booking a property from the other side of the world can be a little daunting but from the outset we felt comfortable communicating with the owner Sarah.

Our small group spent a week there with dear family friends and six adults were very comfortable in the villa.

The property description was spot on and it was well maintained and appointed. The renovation of an 18th century building was quite fascinating.

Sarah provided excellent information about the local area in a folder at the property but was easily contactable by email or phone.

We very much enjoyed exploring the Cinque Terre and Portovenere and La Spezia too. There is a fabulous daily market in La Spezia which we walked down to for delicious local food to cook in the well appointed kitchen.

There is so much to do in the area however we still took advantage of the villa and enjoyed the pool and terrace area with its wonderful views.

I would highly recommend this property to friends and family.

A car is useful but we did walk to the market and railway station most days. However if you are not fond of walking Sarah has excellent drivers that can be booked.

So our first week in Italy was amazing and we have many happy memories of our time at Villa Maggiano!

Our group of 6 was treated to a beautiful building with wonderful amenities, lots of space and regular contact to ensure that we were enjoying all aspects of our stay.

The area is amazing with its proximity to many beautiful towns and the villa itself is second to none.

Relaxing, wonderfully rustic, great location.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 stayed at Villa Maggiano for 2 weeks. It was simply wonderful. The villa is incredibly charming. Just the right amount of space for up to 8 people. The pool is great. The owner was incredibly accommodating and helpful. She went above and beyond to ensure our stay was special. Don't believe what some of the travel books say about La Spezia; we loved it and were ready to move there after 2 weeks. A very charming seaport town with an amazing downtown market every Friday and plenty of bakeries and restaurants. Great launching point for Cinque Terra, great beaches and other amazing areas such as Portovenere and Portofino.
