About Sarah Ferrari
My name is Sarah Ferrari and I have been living in Italy for over 18 years. 'I found my love in Portofino'....my husband Franco, from La Spezia almost 15 years ago. I was so lucky to move to this beautiful area of Italy which offers so many alternatives for an outdoorsey like myself. Villa Maggiano has been in my husband's family for over one hundred years believe it or not!! We have just finished restoring the property after two years of hard work. We truly put our heart and soul into the project and think that guests will appreciate our efforts in creating a comfortable homey atmosphere for a memorable Italian vacation!!
Sarah Ferrari purchased this Villa in 1800
Why Sarah Ferrari chose La Spezia
Seeing the villa perched on the hillside with it's wonderful views, we felt like we had to restore it into a vacation spot for others to enjoy. We love our city and it's surroundings and felt like this was the perfect place to fully enjoy what it has to offer.
What makes this Villa unique
The villa is perched amongst olive groves in a peaceful atmosphere with amazing sea views from every window yet close to many points of interest such as CinqueTerre, Portovenere, Lerici, Lucca, Portofino and Pisa. Guests will enjoy living the truly Italian lifestyle in this wonderful villa yet they will be able to enjoy daily outings hiking, biking, swimming or just enjoying the scenery!!

Enjoyed our visit!
Not suited for handicapped, people with mobility issues, or children due to the stairways. The manager/ owner was delightful , picked us up at the train station and made other reservations for us and gave us a lot of info about the area. We will recommend to others.
It was a pleasure having you all and thank you for the review...I always try to take the best care of my guests even when they need a little extra assistance!
We had a fabulous time at Villa Maggiano. Sarah our host was proactive and always ready to help with anything. Not just while we were in the villa but months before.
The villa was truly breathtaking. The attention to detail was appreciated. We only wish the weather was better on the days we decided to stay in at the villa, to enjoy the pool. It is a really outstanding home. We also had Patriczia come and cook for us a couple nights. The food was delicious. Well worth it.
The villa is far from the train station to walk but not that far that you cant hop in a cab and be there in less than 10 minutes. All the cabs seem to know the villa well. We ventured down the trail to the grocery store. It was actually a lot of fun and adventurous - very doable. Lots of twists and steps and a couple times we wondered if we were headed in the right direction but just as Sarah explained... we got there no problem.
Sarah has thought of everything. A binder left for guests has everything you need to know. We referred to it daily it seemed. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen had all the amenities. We even did laundry one day!
Thank you Sarah for allowing us to be in your beautiful home.
Perfect Family Holiday in Gorgeous Villa Maggiano, La Spezia
We have just returned from the most fantastic week's holiday at Villa Maggiano which has spectacular coastal and distant mountain views across the Gulf of Poets. Sarah has restored her family's home with such care and attention to detail - the house was beautifully cool during the heat of the day and air conditioning in all the bedrooms was much appreciated overnight as the temperature stayed around 30 degrees all week. We had so much space with four beautiful bedrooms to choose from, each with super comfy beds - our two teenage daughters could not believe their good fortune to have an ensuite king size room each! Such luxury!
Outside the villa is surrounded by olive trees and rose bushes and an immaculately tended garden. We all loved dipping in the infinity pool, but it was great to be able to retreat to the shade of the pergola on the terrace when it got too hot in the sun. The weather was so lovely that we ate all of our meals at the outside table overlooking the sea. Sarah has thought of everything in the kitchen, and she also greeted us on arrival with a plate of delicious local pastries which got our stay off to a flying start!
If the girls had had their way, we would never have left the villa and pool, but Sarah gave us lots of thoughtful suggestions for interesting places to visit in the area and restaurant recommendations. Her "house book" also offered valuable local information and she had put together a basket of guidebooks which proved very handy on daytrips. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Portovenere and particularly the boat trip across to La Palmeria island for a fresh fish lunch at Locanda Lorena right on the edge of the water. On another morning, we caught the train from La Spezia station to explore two of the Cinque Terre villages and the train took the strain on our final day too when we travelled north up the coast to pretty Portofino and another tasty lunch of fresh octopus and swordfish, surrounded by luxury yachts.
However, the best part of every day was returning to Villa Maggiano and the peace and tranquillity it offered after experiencing crowds of tourists in the more popular spots.
Sarah - you have thought of everything for the perfect family holiday. Your gorgeous house is a wonderful "home from home" in such a stunning part of Italy and we were so sad to leave. Thank you for having us to stay - we loved Villa Maggiano and we have returned home feeling rested and relaxed after a fantastic week away.
Fabulous stay in Villa Maggiano
Beautiful property. Kids loved the pool which was lovely and warm even though it was early July. Grown ups loved the outdoor area soaking up the gorgeous view. It was all made so easy for us with the 6 star service provided by Sarah. The boat trip she organised will long be remembered.
This was a family and friends vacation that was perfect, partially due to the lovely Villa and amazing pool and partially due to Sarah's attentiveness and excellent suggestions. I can't recommend highly enough. Everything she helped us set up was wonderful. Highly Recommend the sunset cruise! Thanks again for everything, I know we are all looking forward to doing it again as soon as possible.
Thank you again so very much for choosing my rental and hope that you will come back soon!!!
Fabulous Villa in the Cinque Terre Region
Sarah's villa is a beautifully restored farm house in the hills above La Spezia, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It is just a few kilometers from Cinque Terre. The house itself is very well appointed with an abundance of indoor and outdoor space. The crown jewel of the back yard is the infinity pool. Sarah was wonderful... both before and during our stay.
She even met my daughter at the train station and took her to the villa for check in. She also arranged the wonderful sail boat ride (everyone's favorite), and the reservation for Locanda Lorena on Palmaria. We loved the town of Portovenere and at our request, Sarah arranged cab rides to both places. It was a perfect and very memorable vacation!!
Thank you very much and I am so happy that you all enjoyed your stay. I sincerely hope to see you back again for another Italian adventure:)
