Our Winter Park, Colorado condo has all the amenities:

* Largest one-bedroom layout--6 adults can sleep and socialize comfortably

* Corner unit offers additional light, air, back-door entrance for convenience.

* Full-size kitchen with granite countertops and new appliances

* 55' LED TV with Blu Ray

* Living room is comfortable and spacious with gas fireplace

* Pool and hot tub right down the hall

* Back door connects to large shared patio with mountain views (patio not shoveled in winter)

* Comfortable queen-size bed, plus a Murphy bed and pull-out couch with upgraded memory foam mattress for comfort

* Ski Depot just outside our door--rent your skis here or store them overnight for no charge

* Shuttle stop just outside--one stop to the base area (or just ski there)

Six people sleep here comfortably. Some large groups staying in multiple locations have used our condo as a main gathering area, meeting for a group breakfast before a day of skiing, or for drinks after.

We have a great location and have put a lot of care and expense into upgrading the unit but there are some things you should know about Iron Horse that fall outside of our control yet may affect your decision to rent:

* The unit is warm when all windows are closed. The source of the heat is unclear (we've researched it with the HOA board and apparently it's just a fact of Iron Horse). We installed all new windows in the summer of 2016 to ensure that every window (five total) can be opened, as can the back door. We installed a ceiling fan in the bedroom and provide a floor fan in the living room. When we stay, we keep at least one window open all night, summer or winter, even in subzero weather. A few inches is usually enough in cold weather, and we love the mountain air. Fortunately, nights are cool winter and summer at 9,200 feet. If you are uncomfortable having windows open, you may be unhappy in our unit.

* Because the unit is ground level near the driveway, you may hear buses or snow-removal equipment when they are operating. The snow-removal machines start early in the morning and beep while backing up (although only on days with new snow). We've raised it with the Iron Horse board and they insist they cannot adjust the time the machines operate, so be aware that if it snows, you will hear beeping noises early morning for ten or twenty minutes. We've provided earplugs if you are a light sleeper--please check under the bathroom sink.

Iron Horse has a lot of fans (including us), and we book fully during the high seasons, with many happy repeat guests. We want you to be aware of these quirks of Iron Horse so that you can decide for yourself whether it's the right place for you.


The Iron Horse is located at the base of the mountain between the Winter Park and Mary Jane sides of the ski area. We're a short walk or shuttle bus ride to the main base area, which features many shops and restaurants. Be sure to visit Vertical Bistro & Tap, the best full-service restaurant in the area. Say hi to the owner, Tim Hubbard, a longtime friend (he's the guy in the photo at the top of a chute on a powder day).

The Iron Horse has two hot tubs onsite, an indoor/outdoor heated pool, and a steam room, with luxury locker rooms included for your use. There's also a fully outfitted exercise room with weights and cardio machines.


Winter Park is the third largest ski resort in Colorado and a local's favorite. It's known internationally as a mountain for serious skiers, with plenty of good runs for beginners and novices too (generally the steeper bumpier terrain is on the Mary Jane side and the blue-green cruisers are on the Winter Park side). There is a massive terrain park with half pipe, rails and jumps. There are also separate beginner and intermediate terrain parks. You can rent equipment onsite at Ski Depot, just across the drive from the condo.

Note that we ask a refundable $50 deposit to cover the replacement cost of the parking pass, fully refundable when you leave the pass in the unit for the next guest and the unit undamaged.

About Kirsten Liston

Ned fell in love with skiing as an adult and moved to Colorado in 1999. Although he owns another ski condo in Breckenridge, he spends most of his time at Winter Park. Kirsten arrived in Colorado a few years ago after a lifetime in the Midwest and on the East Coast. She is an enthusiastic beginning skier.

Why Kirsten Liston chose Winter Park

We looked at new construction at the base, and instead decided to find a great floor plan with a great location and improve it to match the new decor elements. A slight remove from the base means more of a mountain feel (no view of parking lot or commercial buildings). Short indoor walk to the ski corridor, and everything you need onsite, yet a short walk or shuttle to the base.

What makes this condo unique

The end unit provides more light and a back door for easy access when the snow isn't too deep. We remodeled the unit entirely so it has many design features not found in any other Iron Horse unit.

Good location for skiing and mountain activities

The best part of the condo was the large patio and it had easy access to the parking lot since it's a corner unit. The pool and hot tub were nice also. The kitchen was very dark and needs a ceiling light. We moved a lamp from the bedroom into the kitchen, but it didn't help much and was in the way. The bed is queen-size and dips to the middle, so I wouldn't recommend it for someone with back problems.

Beautiful! Remodeled. Clean. Comfortable.

We all loved it. We had a group all staying in different units in the building. This was by far the nicest unit. This is where we all hung out because it was big and comfy. Remodeled kitchen. Huge TV. Lots of seating in the living room. The back door to the patio was so wonderful for watching the snowfall. Easy to get to the ski lifts. The rental shop right across the driveway was so convenient. Spent every night in the hot tub and steam room. Couldn't have been better!

Nice property fairly convenyent to eveything and easy access to the mountain.

Condo was nice but could have been cleaner. Condo also needs a better couch and an alarm clock/radio in the bedroom Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: Hello, Thank you for the feedback (and for responding to my direct note inquiring about the cleaning issues). I have discussed the cleaning issues with our housekeepers. After an earlier guest review comment about the sofa cushions, I found an upholsterer immediately and placed an order for new custom inserts; I'm sorry they hadn't arrived in time for your stay. Regarding the alarm clock: we find that most people prefer using their personal devices, and anything on the bedside tables gets unplugged and set on the floor, so we keep the tables clear except for the lamps (and even they get unplugged sometimes). I'm glad you had a good stay overall. I take seriously any concerns or repair issues, and can act most quickly on them when I hear about them directly, as the guest review process can take up to a month before we see the review, as it did in this case.

Amazing location, owners & accomodations

My family of 4 stayed in the unit for 4 weeks and loved it. We will be definitely looking to stay in this unit again. There are plenty of pots, pans, coffee, spices, shampoo.. Only 3 drawbacks that others have mentioned. First when it snows you can hear the plows on the street, but I looked at it like a blessing because it was an alarm clock that ensured we were at the front of the line for fresh powder. Second, the couch cushions sloped dramatically to the front and made it hard to stay seated. However, we just turned the cushions around and it was very comfortable but not as pretty. Finally, if you are a snowboarder, the cat walk to the main lift is very flat and slow going. Most mornings I would walk down the cat walk and push my daughters on their snowboards. The underground parking is awesome!

Bottom line we will be staying here again!

Refundable damage deposit $500
Cleaning $95 + Tax

We now collect a damage deposit (after learning the hard way). It's fully refundable unless there is damage or if you do not leave the parking pass in the unit (there is a $50 replacement fee to replace the pass). We may also need to withhold a portion if you are still in the unit after 10am on departure day or prior to 4pm check-in on arrival day (the housekeepers charge extra if they cannot clean on schedule).

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
