About the property

LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION!

The Bird Cage is a breezy and bright studio giving you clear views of the Koolau Mountains. With historic Waikiki Beach just outside the hotel lobby, the Bird Cage is the perfect home base for exploring Honolulu and the rest of Oahu.

Double paned sliding glass windows greatly minimize the urban sounds of Waikiki, but let a lot of light in. An expansive roof deck on top of the hotel provides a bird's eye view of Diamond Head. There are lounge chairs for sunbathing and tables for alfresco dining. No one else in Waikiki has a better view of the sun setting into the Pacific. Kapiolani Park is just across the street and offers the Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Aquarium, the Royal Hawaiian Bandstand, tennis courts, soccer fields, archery ranges, weekend art shows and the city's Sunset on the Beach free concerts and movies - all this in its 500 green acres.

One of the main reasons for coming to Hawaii is of course the sun and sand. Surfing, stand up board paddling, outrigger canoeing, swimming and simply lounging on the beach are all just a few steps from the Brid Cage.

Hawaii is the crossroads of the Pacific and its culinary offerings reflect that abundantly, so while the Bird Cage has a kitchen and microwave, you are a short walk away from countless cafes and restaurants catering to every taste and price range. Similarly, if you can get yourself out of the water and away from the beach there is a lot of shopping to be done in Waikiki, and the many other shopping venues just a short drive away.

The Bird Cage is at the end of Waikiki. Kapahulu Avenue provides easy access to the freeway, and makes getting in and out of the area very easy because you avoid all the traffic in the heart of Waikiki. This is perfect for when you decide to explore the rest that Oahu has to offer.

About Kevin Lum

Born and raised in Honolulu, I currently live on the Mainland, but spend a lot of time in Hawaii. I have worked in the travel industry for over 35 years and have explored numerous countries around the world. I can relate to what travelers are looking for in a vacation rental because I'm looking for the same things - cleanliness, location and value.

Kevin Lum purchased this condo in 2003

Why Kevin Lum chose South Oahu

I grew up in Honolulu and spent a lot of time playing at the beach and on the sea wall that is less than 30 steps from the condo. Kapiolani Park was a place for family gatherings, concerts at the Shell, and of course the Zoo. Waikiki was a lot slower and quieter when I was a kid, but even today I think visitors will still find it to be a special place. If you walk down to the Diamond Head end of Kalakaua Avenue - it's still like it was in the old days.

What makes this condo unique

LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION!

While being at the 'end' of Waikiki might sound like you are away from all the action, that just isn't the case. Everything Waikiki has to offer is just a short walk away, but you don't have to be in the middle of the hustle and traffic. Being on the end of Waikiki makes getting in and out of the area, if you are driving, much easier than visitors staying in the middle of the high-rises. Saving the best for last, being on the end of Waikiki means there is nothing else between you and Diamond Head except the big green expanse of Kapiolani Park. Head up to the roof deck and see for yourself! In the morning it's an amazing place to have coffee, watch the sun peek over the Koolau Mountains and light up Diamond Head, listen to the monkeys in the Zoo, and see the elephants out for a stroll. Only in Hawaii!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks Kevin, we had an amazing time. Your place is fabulous. We truly enjoyed how close it was to the beach. Our best part was being able access the beach so quick and easy. Thank you for keeping the place so neat and tidy.

Tip: We were able to rent a car from Enterprise near the Ala Moana mall for much cheaper than in Waikiki and you can park at the Zoo (pay park) overnight.

We would definitely stay here again.

Super clean condo a block from the beach. A perfect place for a couple, has everything you need even beach chairs. The 10th floor sun deck is amazing! Can't wait to go back!

Owner's Response: The Bird Cage's location is pretty special. Less than 30 steps from the beach and a short walk to the center of Waikiki. We're always happy when guests agree. However, we're even happier when guests believe their time at the Bird Cage was a good value. Thanks for the generous words, and come back any time!

Great beach location

  • 5 of 5

My son and I had a great stay at the Bird Cage. Location was ideal--short walk to the beach and easy to come back to shower, etc. We rented a car and reserved a parking spot in Waikiki Grand,, really enjoying the convenience. It allowed us lots of beach time but also efficiency to do other things all over the island. As other reviews have stated, Kevin was great to work with for booking and answering specific questions before/after our stay. Thanks!!!

Owner's Response: The Bird Cage (and our other unit the Red Ginger) is ideally located a few steps from the beach at the "quiet" end of Waikiki. This allows for easy access to the beach, and if you're driving, to the rest of the island, without the hassles of being in the middle of the concrete jungle that Waikiki can be sometimes. Always glad to hear when guests agree. Thanks for staying at the Bird Cage!
