Reviews like this are disheartening when we work so hard to provide guests with a beautiful home to enjoy as noted from the multiple five star reviews on this property. To address this issue head on, the facts are as follows. Guests checked in early on Thursday afternoon. On Friday evening around 8pm, I had my first contact with them indicating they saw a bug and the house was “infested”. I asked to come over that night or in the morning to see what the problem was first hand and was denied access. I always want to remedy anything that a guest has an issue with immediately. But if you don’t allow me to come see first hand what the issue is, I can not take it seriously. As you can see from the review, the remedy for this situation was not to eliminate any bugs, but a rather a refund or further vacation time in the property. I think the larger issue at hand is that this guest was very upset I would not allow them to cancel their booking the week prior to check in. Infestations simply don’t crop up overnight. Why did they not contact me immediately upon arrival?? I can clearly and without any hesitation say we do NOT have an infestation. If I did, it would be resolved immediately. We DO have Palmetto bugs like all other homes in the area. I am in this home regularly and know exactly what the condition of this home is. I would certainly know if it was infested with bugs! This guest should have also mentioned in all of their research that Palmetto Bugs do not infest homes but seek shelter inside from heat, extreme cold, or moisture. These bugs will ALWAYS be on the interior and exterior of homes on the oceanfront. They are an environment issue. I will suffer with this review because I refuse to be blackmailed into allowing guests to stay in a property and receive a full refund. I am a bit stunned by this review. I was in the house multiple times to handle guest issues. All of our tv's have either smart capability OR Spectrum cable access. These guests did require me to go and help them with television access. EACH and EVERY tv was working as advertised as either a smart tv OR with cable access when I left the home. What is extremely puzzling is why "bugs" were never mentioned to me AT ALL during my many trips to this property? If I checked into a vacation rental that had "them roaches" everywhere, I would immediately call the owner or rental company and leave. Who would stay in that situation? Yet, I heard nothing of the sort (also saw no bugs). What I did witness while at the home with these guests, was one traveler who had "fake plastic roach bugs" who put a few out to scare another guest. I find it interesting that someone would have fake plastic bugs in their possession on a trip? But to be clear, we do have Palmetto Bugs like ALL other homes in the area do. If bugs make you uncomfortable, please go to the mountains. A home fifty yards from the oceanfront on the marsh is not for you. We have bugs, spiders, salamanders, snakes etc. For these guests to be so concerned about bugs, they seemed to have no regard for not bothering to use any sheeting on the beds which required us to literally launder every bit of mattress and pillow protection coverings. Absolutely vulgar.
