Enter this bright 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo in Puako on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island. The first thing you will see upon entering is the blue Pacific Ocean. The Puako condos are located directly across the street from the ocean in the only condominium complex in this charming residential beach neighborhood. This unit comes with air conditioning in the living room and the masterbedroom with ceiling fans. in the other rooms. It is a 4 story building with an elevator and two swimming pools, one of which is a wading pool for children. The on-site residential manager personally oversees the tropical grounds and pool which are very well cared for. Puako is the sunniest place in the state with little rain each year. This oceanfront community is nestled between Mauna Kea Beach Resort and Mauna Lani Resort on the Kohala Coast.
Watch the whales from your living room and master bedroom of this desirable 4th floor unit. This condo has been tastefully upgraded including new kitchen and bathrooms. Stay cool with tile flooring in the living room and kitchen and wood floors in bedroom. The condo overlooks the two pools, Puako Bay, and the Kohala mountains. There are 2 king bedrooms and 1bedroom with 2 twin beds. Full Kitchen, wireless internet, ceiling fans, washer and dryer, and an assigned parking space. The Puako General Store - a small, grocery/liquor store is located next door. Two of the island’s largest and nicest white-sand beaches, Hapuna Beach and Mauna Kea Beach, are also located very close by. Welcome to paradise!
Guests can relax at the property pool and indulge in a BBQ grill for a prefect island retreat.
PLEASE NOTE: This unit has ONE dedicated parking stall. Please consider renting a larger vehicle to accommodate all of your party. There is NO street parking allowed for vacation rentals according to local regulations. A secondary parking stall within the designating building parking lot MAY be an option but cannot be guaranteed for the duration of your stay or designated until shortly before your arrival. IF and as available, the additional parking stall within the designating building parking lot will be assessed an additional, daily fee. Please inquire directly, shortly before your arrival, for further information and potential availability.
Please keep in mind that Guest is in a very small and peaceful residential neighborhood. Noise carries over quiet landscapes and near water. IBR asks that Guest and Guest’s children respect Property neighbors' privacy, peace and quiet between 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Please refrain from using the lanais for conversations or viewing devices during quiet hours.

Guests will have full use and access to condo and grounds. The pool deck and public BBQ area is shared with other persons in building.
The Neighborhood:
Puako is still the only ocean front residential community along the Gold Coast/Kohala Coast of the Big Island nestled between the Mauna Lani Resort, Fairmont Orchid and Mauna Kea/Hapuna Resorts. Hapuna Beach State Park has earned the reputation of being one of Hawaii Island's finest beaches. It is the largest White Sands Beach on The Big Island and consistently rates on Top Ten lists internationally. Hapuna Beach offers some wonderful opportunities for swimming, bodysurfing, bodyboarding, sunbathing and snorkeling and is just a mile from Puako. You can even drive the back road to Hapuna Beach and not get on the Highway. Local shore fisherman can be seen daily enjoying the great reef fishing. Puako Beach Drive has no through access which keeps it virtually still undiscovered by many.
There are six separate "beach" accesses along this stretch of beach. Although there is not a tremendous amount of sand, there are tide pools and the extensive protected reef is remarkable. During low tide, small pools dot the entire coastline and these pools are filled with small sea life that make excellent areas to explore for all ages. If you enjoy shore diving, kayaking and snorkeling you can find a spot along this stretch of shoreline to enter the water. Offshore the reef is home to a wide variety of fish and many days you will see dolphins playing right from the shore. Enjoy the Whales who return each year to mate and give birth in the tropical warm waters during the winter months.

A car is recommended for getting around the area and enjoying all that Hawaii Island has on offer.

Great place to stay!
This spacious, clean condo is in a great location: quiet, residential (what we were looking for) but centrally located on the coast so that we were able to explore other areas easily by car if we wanted to. Beach access is across the road and easy to get to and there is a pool as well on the property. The condo had all we needed for a great stay---the kitchen was spotless and had all dishes/utensils needed. We wished we could have stayed longer and enjoyed waking up each day to the views from our lanai. Thank you for a great stay!

Nice condo, close to the water
We enjoyed 4 nights in this condo. The condo was clean and neat, with lots of room for our 4 person group. The balcony had a great view of the water. It was a great base from which to explore the Waimea area and the Northwest coast. It was driving, not walking, distance to restaurants and other touristy activities. The Managers were very good and helpful and friendly.

In a quiet neighborhood with views to the beach and near Hapuna beach. 6 adults accommodated very well. The building is older build but the apartment was clean. Has beach chairs and umbrella. The snorkeling equipment was not functioning. You will enjoy your stay.

Easy and comfortable holiday with family
We really enjoyed our stay at the Puako condo over the Christmas holiday week. Traveling with children and grandparents, the condo was well-suited for all. The interior is nicely furnished and has a view of the ocean-- even if you have to overlook the parking lot (; The kitchen was efficient and well-equipped to cook any meal. The general store, located next-door, is great for last minute needs and ready-to-go food for the beach. Coming back to Puako after our daily adventures was a welcome, relaxing way to end the day. We would definitely stay again if given the opportunity to return!

Mahalo for staying with us. The place has Orkin pest control service as its noted in the guest book, you should have called us and we would have handled it immediately. The bugs that fly in are harder to stop as we Puako is a tropical ocean front community. We appreciate any comments which I personally will look into.

Couldn’t ask for a better location to stay, close to beautiful beaches and snorkeling. Gorgeous views from unit! Unit had everything we needed as far as kitchen, etc……would have given five stars if A/C in bedroom was better. Unit in living area was fine but bedroom’s a/c was very loud. Better to leave all windows open to cross ventilate.

Great location!
We had a great time staying in Puako. The property is immediately across the street from a public beach which was perfect for all many water activities. We enjoyed walking around looking at the tide pools, turtles, sunsets and stars at night. We seldom saw many people on this beach except for sunset, it felt somewhat private. We could have spent more time at this beach but spent much of our time swimming and boogie boarding 5 minutes away at Hapnua. Our condo was clean, suited two couples well and had nearly everything that one would need including kitchen, bath supplies, and beach gear (boogie boards, umbrella, towel mats, cooler, etc). The property was well maintained and had beautiful plumeria all around! The general store next door was very convenient as this location is removed from the busier resort areas nearby (which we preferred, it was nice and quiet).
We would happily stay here again!

Quiet and serene, excellent location!
We totally enjoyed our visit to the beach condo 403. The view was to die for! No need for AC, the breezes were pleasing and relaxing. The lushly landscaped grounds harbored many interesting bird species. The condo was fully equipped and met all of our needs. We used the kitchen 8/11 nights, and never wanted for anything. At night, great care has been taken to maintain dim lighting and you can really enjoy the stars. No light pollution!! Location was a huge plus for visiting nearby resorts for beaches, snorkeling, and luau. Waikoloa Village is 9 miles away and has the best grocery store. Hilo is easily accessed via the saddle road and had best gas prices. Overall, I would skip Kona and stay in Puako every time! Definitely recommend this condo!!!

Great place, poor check in communication
Did not receive any info for check in. Was lucky that I had rented a condo from another private person so was familiar with the condo. Arrived at condo and tracked down a manager after 30 minutes. She was not a manager for the unit we had but was able to get us in. Finally spoke to someone from rental company who kept saying this never happened. Not helpful. A few days later the battery went out on the exterior door lock. I had to cancel plans for the afternoon to wait for a repairman to replace since we were unable to secure the unit.
A female manager checked in with us and offered us a gift certificate to dinner after that. I appreciated this. Especially after feeling like the other fellow I spoke to should have long before that. For the price of the unit- none of this should have happened.
The unit itself was lovely.

We are so sorry about your check in situation. The reason I said that it never happens is that we have a CRM Customer Relations Management system that tracks messages to guest and we do have on record that the message was sent February 27th and opened on February 28th. The directions and entry information is also available through VRBO as well.
If this message is not opened we would call guest and resend the message. We also ask guest to print their instructions prior to coming to the place. Usually we get a call when people cant find the message prior to their arrival to the unit. We did not get a call prior to your arrival. I will send the email with the CRM date/time stamp to VRBO and to your email. We really appreciate that you stayed at the unit and I asked the property manager to go see you and offer the gift card. Also, since the battery died prematurely at the door I will make it up to you by offering a credit or gift card for the inconvenience.

This condo in Puako is exactly what we were looking for. Puako is one of few villages centrally located on the Kohala/Kona coast, and the condo itself is conveniently situated between the little general store on one side and a beach access of the other. The 4th floor condo has a view - both mauka and makai - of all the Hawai`i Island volcanoes, plus Haleakala across the channel on Maui. It is clean, well-equipped and spacious, AC if you want it and trade winds if you don't. Unlike some rentals that claim to "sleep 6" (on the couch etc) this one actually does. The hosts and the condo managers are responsive and helpful. In short, perfect.

Perfect spot for a quiet getaway
If you’re looking for a spot that’s quiet and peaceful, Puako is perfect. This condo was right next to the local market, so perfect for grabbing a six pack and sandwiches for the beach. We walked across the street for sunset and to explore tide pools in the morning. Saw dozens of turtles. Five-minute drive to beach 69, hapuna beach, and Mauna Kea beach. We will be back!

Feels brand new and the views are great!
Our family of 4 found this property to be more than expected. Although the Puako Condo is an older building, it is very well maintained and the tropical gardens all around made coming home from our beach outings even more welcoming. This top floor unit offers everything you might want and it was less than the cost of a hotel room! Our daughter had the bedroom in the back with a king size bed, our son took the twin bedroom in the back. They shared the bathroom in the hall with the twin beds. My husband and I had the ocean facing bedroom and used the other bathroom adjacent to it.
Although we were very active and out seeing the island, we tried to get home every evening for the amazing sunsets and prepare a meal in the wonderful kitchen. Our dinners were typically outside on the lanai facing the ocean.
Our children would often time go down to the pool in the early evening or they walked across the street to the beach while were prepared dinner. It was just a fabulous vacation for us and we would love to return next year!
