The place is beautifully situated, with very large grounds and a great view of the big lake. The architecture of the main room of the cabin, with its lofty hexagonal wood roof, is wonderful. The main room and the two bedrooms are spacious and the beds comfortable enough, though the twin bed in the northern BR had no linens. (The bed is not listed on VRBO, but if not to be used why is it there?)It’s the area of property maintenance where the owners fall short. Without hashing out too many minor matters, we can say that the oven was filthy, the dishwasher didn’t work, mice were rampant, and Internet and TV were out the four days of our stay.The VRBO site says nothing about a beach, and there is no proper beach. We could get down to the water, but it was a trudge through sea shells and mud. And the water is pretty weedy — unless you get to it on the south side of the property. Simple concrete stepping stones from the lawn to the water would help a lot.The landlady responded to complains, suggesting that if everything in the cabin were up to snuff the rates would be considerably higher. Money doesn’t grow on trees, she said. Of course not, but attention to cleanliness and maintenance, over the course of a season, wouldn’t have to cost much … and might indeed be grown on trees.
