Beach house on a quiet, secluded Beach in Fort Morgan area of Gulf Shores. No busy commercial congestion or large condominium complexes. Relax on the covered deck with excellent views of the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay or enjoy the swing and picnic table located under the unit. Spend the day just steps away on the uncrowded white, Sandy Beach. Find shells, watch for porpoises and swim in the clear blue waters of the Gulf. It's a short drive to several great Golf courses, or Shopping in Gulf Shores and the Foley (Tanger) Outlet centers. Dine at local favorites Sassy Bass a local favorite, Behind the Pines great hamburgers, 'Lulu's' owned by Jimmy Buffett's sister Tachy Jacks less than a mile from the house, Papa Rocko's for pizza and many more. Close to the house is historic Fort Morgan, or take an easy hike in Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge.

A bargain hunting trip to Tanger is a wonderful family activity. Tanger Outlet Centers have something for everyone. Your family will discover everything from the latest brand name fashions and accessories to home décor, books, music CDs, toys, outdoor gear, and much, much more. After a day of outlet shopping, everyone will have fun comparing all of the great deals they found

At the west end of the Pleasure Island peninsula are the remains of Fort Morgan. One of the two forts that protected Mobile during the Battle of Mobile Bay, the Fort dates from 1812. A museum offers displays of Civil War artifacts, and tours reveal the history of the fort from the War of 1812 until its final closure by the Army in 1946. On the beach, visitors will find cannons gazing out to sea. After touring the fort, there are opportunities to stroll the white beaches, swim, fish or crab, shell hunt, and sunbathe. This spot is a favorite with birdwatchers, who have been known to make rare sightings of migratory birds. A marina, golf course, and lodging are all nearby. The first week in August the fort hosts its major annual event, the Civil War Living History Encampment.

Recreate among endangered species and migratory birds. Over 4,000 acres of beach dunes, scrub dunes, fresh water marsh, salt water marsh, and Maritime forest make up the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge just west of Gulf Shores. This coastal Refuge is part of the Central Gulf Ecosystem Unit and provides refuge for the endangered loggerhead sea turtle, the endangered American alligator, and the rare gopher tortoise. Part of the migration route of the monarch butterfly, the Refuge is also known for its more than 120 species of birds - making it a paradise for bird watchers. Along with birding, the refuge offers opportunities for hiking, swimming, photography, collecting sea shells, and boating. Fishermen enjoy both fresh and saltwater fishing.

Ride the auto ferry to Dauphin Island for a tour of the SeaLab and historic Fort Gaines.Birdwatching and sunbathing are two of the favorite activities on this island paradise. The Audubon Bird Sanctuary, at the east end of the island, extends over 164-acres of maritime forest, marshes, and dunes. A campground and hiking trail are part of the Sanctuary, giving visitors opportunities to spend time observing the neotropical migrant birds and native wildflowers.. In the spring, the park is visited by bird lovers anxious to view the annual bird migration.

About Cheryle/Owner

We have been visiting the Gulf Shores area for many years. We have two boys and one granddaughter. We all love the beach and fishing. We have always dreamed of owning a house in the area.We are only about 4 hours away so are able to visit frequently...look forward to sharing our dream

Cheryle/Owner purchased this house in 2009

Why Cheryle/Owner chose Gulf Shores East

We were on vacation at the home across the street and loved the neighborhood so much we decided this is where we wanted our vacation home to be. Purchased this home in 2009, purchased home two lots over in 2013 and built a new home between the two in 2015.

What makes this house unique

Home is located on a quite street.Ideal for families. In an area where pets are also welcome. They are allowed on the beach as long as they are on a leash. The house has open lots on one side and in back which provides great views. We own the two homes next to this one great for weddings and reunions.

Terrific home, relaxing area and wonderful private beach!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great vacation at Maw-maws and will return again! Very comfortable, clean home just a few steps from the beautiful beach. Enjoyed our coffee on the porch in the mornings and the quiet at night. The area was family oriented and nice and quiet. We did enjoy dinner at Sassy Bass and got fresh fish to BBQ at Behind the Pines. Both were great ! Everyone said it was the best vacation we have taken as a family. All 3 bedrooms were spacious and clean.we were even able to bring our fur baby who loved it all as well! Good house. Check it out!

Needs some attention...

  • 2 of 5

I wouldn't say I was disappointed, there were just things that should have been kept up better. Such as the grass to let our fur babies out was super tall until mid week of our stay. Also, there were tons of little bugs everywhere in the house to the point we felt itchy sitting on the couch at night. The pictures on the website are old and there is now a house very close next store. We had to put a towel up in the shower, because you can definitely see right in the window! Just wasn't what we were hoping for the money. All and all the beach was beautiful. There was plenty of beach toys, and other extra stuff that was accommodating.

Owner's Response: We welcome all reviews to our property which helps us improve our property for future guest. We also encourage all guest to notify us immediately of any problems encountered during their stay. The grass is cut only close to the home at rare intervals because we are in a protected conservation area that helps protect the endangered beach mouse, we provided this information in the welcome book at the home, this is a requirement of the Fish and Wildlife, please bear with us on this as it helps protect the dunes in the area. We are in a tropical environment but we have regular pest treatment, the house was treated two weeks prior and the guest at that time reported no problems, however if food is left out gnats and " no see 'ems" as we call them will tend to come inside especially if it has been a rainy or damp for few days which it had been this week. The bathroom window has a louver over it that is partially open but can easily be closed if guest feels it does not over sufficient privacy. As always please feel free to contact us at any time with question or concerns about our property.

Great Memories

  • 5 of 5

Our multi-generation family of 9, enjoyed our stay here very much. The house, while small for this amount of guest, was very well laid out. We were not uncomfortable at all. The covered deck was a definite plus, as was the concrete pad under the house with the outside shower for hosing down after a day on the beach. The house was clean, comfortable and well furnished including a few toys for the kids and beach gear. The area is quiet and we had a lot of empty beach to enjoy. The sand was absolutely beautiful! One word of out for the sand burs! Over heard a lot of "Next time we come's..", so I know everyone had a great time. Thank you Cheryl for being there every time we had a question. Everything was awesome!

Stay at Maw Maw House

  • 4 of 5

This was our first trip to Fort Morgan Beach area. Maw Maw house has everything a family will need for a great vacation. Home needs a little face lift with dated decorating. A good paint job with some new colors will make this place seem brand new. We would book again.

We enjoyed our stay at your home. Thank you for allowing us to bring our fur babies too. They enjoyed laying around the house & going to the beach. Would recommend it to anyone that wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life. Thanks again!

A place of history, leisure and nature, the Fort Morgan peninsula extends like a long finger west of Gulf Shores, Alabama. If you're looking to get away from crowded beach bars and tacky souvenir shops, this section of the Alabama Gulf Coast is a good option. Much of the peninsula is part of a protected wildlife refuge, but many beachfront accommodations are available. You may have to drive to Gulf Shores to pick up major supplies, but it's well worth that small hassle to experience these pristine, sparkling sugar-white sands on your beach vacation.
